Sirius: A Progressive Success

Having ‘grown up’ with summer Psytrance outdoor festivals and the occasional indoor Psytrance club night in winter, I was more intrigued than excited to see what the organizers of Sirius had in store for us. First of all I didn’t know how on earth they were going to pull this off at Bloemendal Restaurant in Durbanville, as it seemed an unlikely venue for a Psytrance stomp. That said, of course I was looking forward to hearing what Phaxe and Lish, the two international headliners, were going to bring to the floor and boy was I pleasantly surprised!

On the way up the mountain to a venue with a spectacular 270° panoramic view of the Cape Peninsula, I didn’t have to worry about my Honda Jazz taking a beating from the dirt roads most summer stomps seem to have in common. It was paved and pleasant! Security was friendly, efficient and helped us park so as to get the maximum use of the parking area for party people to come. Since we arrived at 2:30pm, albeit freezing already, we had the pleasure of experiencing an epic sunset while Stefan Wyeth was warming up the cellar dance floor with his minimal beats.

The duo from Fogshow kept it going with a deeper techno sound than I’ve heard them play before, and I noticed that the dance floor was filling up nicely and people were seriously getting ready to paaa…rty on this chilly Saturday night, given the fact that it was only 4pm. The creators of Sirius are the same team behind the Love & Light parties in Cape Town, and their one-day festival policy seems to be gaining momentum and popularity with each event.

Ivan Turanjanin’s signature techno grooves progressed into a few more uplifting tracks towards the end of his set, setting the mood for Phaxe, who proceeded to show us why he is so well-known for successfully blending definite melodies and progressive beats. Being able to see him play live and DJ back-to-back also gave me the opportunity to hear what artists and sounds are influencing his style at the moment. Connecto followed with a fast-paced progressive Psy-tech set, and by this time the floor was packed and the Olmeca tequila (one of the sponsors of the evening) was flowing. I am a Jagermeister girl myself, but I must admit, a cold Olmeca chocolate tequila is not bad… at all.

Lish followed with a two and a half hour set that truly showcased their technical and creative skills, striking the perfect balance between grooving prog beats and psychedelic top sounds.

Jimmy’s (Broken Toy) new progressive Psy act, Sad Paradise, ended the evening off nicely with a fresh set to most ears there and I could see people were not keen to go home when he played his last track.

I need to make a special mention of the AV setup. It was a predominantly indoor party, with a bar upstairs and outside (for those hardcore minus-temperature fans), and the cellar set up as the main dance floor. As you can imagine, the floor could get a bit crowded, but the organizers solved this potential problem by adding decent sound to the restaurant upstairs, where you could dance in front of a cozy fireplace. Although I personally prefer to see the DJ and feel the crowd’s interaction with him or her, loads of peeps stomped on the top floor and were loving it. Also, being used to outdoor décor and draping, LED screens have never really caught my eye, but the LED screens at Sirius were state-of-the-art and the VJing well-managed.

All in all, Sirius was a slick production and a very good representation of what the current South African and international progressive scene has to offer. I look forward to the next Sirius event on 9 August 2013, also at Bloemendal.

Perfect Stranger comes to South Africa again, finally

Yuli Fershtat, Israeli based electronic musician known as ‘Perfect Stranger’ from Iboga Records has once before waved the proverbial wand on South African shores in 2011 at the inaugural Love & Light party at the Nekkies Camping Resort just outside of Cape Town. Not too sure why it has taken him so long to come back and entertain? – Nonetheless, he is on the way again at the end of June to perform in both JHB at the Teknotribe event and Cape Town at Trinity.

In his creations it’s adequately described as sounds inspired by the bliss of sunbeams with an ironic yet candid take on the simple pleasures of life, or depending on the day – the darker side of the self. Perfect Stranger moves Progressive Trance and embeds it into dirty Techno grooves and breakdowns so to speak which enables him to maintain that very old school spirit that is spoken to be missed so much these days.

The event in Johannesburg is Teknotribe’s 10th birthday with tickets available at webtickets, Perfect Stranger will be performing on the Techno stage with Nick Grater, Sebotage, Senjo, Sound Sensible and Doctor Stone with the Psytrance floor hosting names like Stereotype, Dre’ama,Bionic, Digital Dream, Killer B and Manifesto vs Thalia.

Who Needs Molly? Pass the Meth(ylone)

$

Did molly tell you about her sister, methylone? Most people are probably unaware that what they think they're taking as MDMA or molly is actually a chemical called methylone that looks similar in chemistry, except for an extra oxygen particle thrown in there.

The substance known as BK-MDMA, is hard to distinguish from its molly. Even when buying capsule form, methylone can look like off-white crystals that can range in size from a solid chunk to raw sugar granules.

According to one London based DJ, who takes both MDMA and methylone, the latter makes him desire more (similar effect to cocaine), has a worse comedown, not quite as good a high, and leaves your heart racing.

Cops who have been making drug arrests in Miami, are increasingly seeing that the drugs they're collecting aren't MDMA or Ecstasy, but methylone. Previous years had shown a higher percentage of MDMA street seizures but now the tables have turned. More often than not, BK-MDMA has been sold as molly, and drug dealers have been earning quite a profit from a drug that should cost less than its sister.

As drugs become more and more diluted with synthesized lookalikes, it becomes even more important to test what you're taking and know who you get it from, so you don't end up with a bad night on your hands.

Party Safe: New Watch Informs Level of Intoxication

Now when you go clubbing there’s a new way to party, monitor your drinking, and keep safe. A new watch called the Kisai Intoxicated, was released this morning by Tokyoflash and features a built in breathalyzer which measures BAC and lets the wearer know how much he or she has imbibed. Blow into the sensor on the side of the watch and watch the screen turn green if you are ok to drive, yellow if you aren’t, and red if you are really drunk.

For reassurance about your level of intoxication, the watch also includes a game that tests reaction time by having the user quickly click a button when the line traveling across the screen reaches the center. The watch also includes traditional features like time, date, and an alarm. The battery, which can easily be recharged with a USB cord connected to a computer, lasts for about one month. The watch is available for a discounted $100 for the first forty-eight hours of sale. The creators of this interesting new technology hope that it will reduce incidents of drunk driving since it gives people a clearer understanding of their mental state.

Turn Your Phone Into a Record Needle With Kontor's Office Turntable

It's fun to see how people get creative nowadays, and this Office Turntable is no exception. In order to catch advertiser's attentions, Kontor Records decided to take a new approach for promotion of Boris Dlougosch's new track: sending a vinyl record with a record player included. How do you do that without FedEx costing you thousands of dollars for a track promo? Well, by making use of your phone, of course!

The envelop it comes in magically turns into a Technics turntable that holds the vinyl. Scanning the QR code on the turntable will take you to a page on your phone browser that plays the track and mimics a real record payer. You can lift and drop the needle to whichever point you like. Although vinyl purists may be disappointed that it's not the real deal, it's still a ingenious marketing idea that caught our eye.

Jonni Darkko: Bangin' Bitches & Techno

$

At least there's one person in the world who has a fun day job in between making dirty techno basslines, and he is Jonni Darkko, an American porn director. In the adult film industry for fourteen years, he is a producer in more ways than one. On May 27th, Jonni's techno track "Close" was released on Richie Hawtin's Minus label and was just featured on the minMAX compilation as well. The track is comprised of dark, driving chords that pulsate and are accompanied by industrial sounds and air pads. It reminds of futuristic factory settings and it is no wonder that Richie Hawtin dropped it at the closing party of his ENTER. show in Ibiza.

Music production is not a one-off for Jonni however, as he also creates the music for the porno he produces. In an interview with XBIZ he is quoted, "Making music is such a cathartic release of everything, sitting down and doing your own thing, making your own grooves." On coming to Ibiza to experience his track live at ENTER., Jonni said, "To have it play for 6,000 or 7,000 kids screaming and jumping up and down, it’s much grander than anything you’re used to. It was so cool to see that action take place."

Jonni has been nominated for five Adult Video News Awards and one XBIZ Award for his work "Angels of Debauchery" and "Suck it Dry." After working for Evil Angel, he began his own company, Darkko Productions, which led to his nominations. Before working in the adult film industry, Jonni worked as a professional photographer in Chicago, shooting fashion. Multi-talented as he is, we applaud the man for creating a life out of making beats and porn. You can check out his musical work on the Minus compilation in the Beatport player below.

A Chat With Franck Roger Before His Marquee Debut

Franck Roger has become increasingly well traveled and busy over the last few years. A talented DJ/Producer who launched his own label "Real Tone Records" out of his native city Paris in 2004 Roger has helped create a niche to push his own music forward while constantly working to embrace new talents and share them with the world. With recent appearances in Colombia, Greece, Mexico and the US he's not the easiest man to catch up with. Luckily he granted us a few minutes to chat about the Parisian electronic music scene, his recent record that was licensed to M.A.N.DY's Get Physical on Ibiza compilation which was released on June 14th as well as what's on the horizon for his own record label. Be sure to catch his much anticipated debut at one of New York City's most formidable new underground nights at Marquee in NY alongside New York's own Holosound.

You're playing in New York City at Marquee this Friday with Holosound. When did you first get a chance to play in New York. Have you seen a change in the city since then? Yeah, first time gig for me was in 2005 if I'm not wrong, and it was at Cielo. I played for the Louie Vega party there and Club Love too. It looks like house heads are more open to our European sound today. We can see that with different promoters in NYC now, even the producers and DJ's too…So it's a good sign.

What are some of your favorite things to do while in New York (provided you have more than a few minutes before you have to travel to your next gig)? I have not much time when I'm DJing. Last time I came, I went to dig for some records and some sneakers cause I'm a freaky collector, so I always dig for those two things...everywhere I go.

What other cities have you had the chance to visit recently? We saw you were recently in Cali, Colombia-did you hit any other South American cities this time around? Yeah Colombia was very nice, there is a big potential there. I went to Mexico city too, then here in USA for a few cities.

Paris' electronic music scene seems to be undergoing a new renaissance these days, what are some of the promoters or clubs that are leading this effort? If there was one thing you personally could do to improve it, what would it be? Paris is going very well at the moment. We got some very good international DJ's today that are representing our sounds such like Djul'z,Varoslav, Seuil, Andrade and many more. There are good labels too and parties like Concrete, Weather, Rex Club and Showcase Club that are leading the Paris underground scene right now.

Has your workflow changed a lot in the studio since you began making music? What are some pieces of kit or software that have helped you remain prolific as a your touring commitments continue to increase? I'm producing only with hardware stuff, outboard, external expanders, effects, synths, MPC, and lots of vintage stuff too. It took me many years now to collect all those machines and to know which ones will be good for the kind of music I'm making. So, I don't produce on the go. I can't make music with a computer and VST plugging. I really need to be with all my toys in the studio, get the warm sounds of my compressors and EQs too. This is how I learned it when I first started to buy stuff - making music is an investment as well.

If you weren't producing music/DJing, what would you be doing? What are some of the things we might find you doing when you're not in the studio or behind the DJ booth. Well I never thought about that .. and don't even know what to do except making music and DJing. When I have free time I like to go out in parks, see my friends hang out on a Parisian terrace, drinking some wines and talk about whatever. Recently I went back to running too, it's very healthy and good for the mind as well since it clears many things, but music is taking 90% of my time.

You have a release on the new M.A.N.D.Y Get Physical on Ibiza compilation, how did this record find its way into their hands? Well I just did a remix for Get Physical, and they were really happy with my work, so they asked me if I had a exclusive track for their summer compilation. That's how it started basically and we will also do a party between Get Physical and Real Tone Records on the 23rd of July at Vista club in Ibiza.

Do you have any help in running your label Real Tone Records? It must be a lot of work with all of your travel and busy production and remix schedule. Yeah of course, Lionel my label partner and best friend runs the label with me. Also, Aurelien takes care of the bookings and all that goes with it. Mikhal is working on the press stuff, contracts and statements, and I work as an artist director on the label, and always try to be on point to check for new talent to sign. We are all a team working together almost everyday.

What are one or two new names on Real Tone Records you’d like to highlight that are doing exciting work that may not yet be household names? For now, we are really pushing our new artist Paolo Rocco from Montreal, he is really talented and got his own sound and world. He's doing also his own vocals on his tracks. He's a young guy with a nice musical culture as well, which is why we support him and added him to our DJ roster at our booking agency. Burnski is now a well known artist and he is also a part of our producer roster on the label.

James Murphy’s newest project is another example of how the LCD Soundsystem star has explored different paths since the group disbanded in 2011. In the past two years, the former frontman has tried out acting, working with artists such as Arcade Fire and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and is even developing his own sound system. Now, he will make his Broadway debut writing original music for Harold Pinter’s Betrayal, produced by Mike Nichols. The show, told in reverse, is about a husband whose wife is having an affair. Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz will be starring in the show, which previews at the beginning of October and opens on the 27th of the month at the Barrymore Theater.

Look out Grammys, there's a new music awards show in the works dedicated solely to electronic dance music. The as yet unnamed awards show, which will launch in 2014, is the result of a partnership between Electric Daisy Carnival organisers Insomniac and Dick Clark Productions - the company responsible for producing shows such as the Golden Globe Awards, the American Music Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards and So You Think You Can Dance for worldwide television audiences.

The announcement for the new venture was made during yesterday's EDMbiz conference held at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, revealing the inaugural show will launch in Sin City during Electric Daisy Carnival week in 2014 with "an energy-filled event that will honor the most creative minds in dance music."

“Creating an award show focused on all the creative components that contribute to the success of dance music (music, art, production and lighting) has been a dream of mine for years,” said Pasquale Rotella, Founder and CEO of Insomniac.

“I'm confident that our partnership [with Dick Clark Productions] will create an event that is focused on recognizing creativity without politics, and that it will celebrate all the elements that go into making dance music such a beautiful experience for the fans."

Further details surrounding the announcement will be revealed in the coming months. This new venture is yet another example of how much dance music is blowing up in America at present. Get your popcorn ready, Pulsers - this is goiing to be some entertaining viewing.

Under The Cover Of Night: Insomniac Partners with Live Nation

$

0

Insomniac Events, the company behind large scale festival brands such as The Electric Daisy Carnival, has just announced the formation of "a creative partnership" with Live Nation. Given the exponential growth that Insomniac has seen domestically and, with the launch of EDC London, abroad, a bid by the entertainment giant had long been rumored. So while it's not necessarily surprising to learn news of such a move by two industry giants, the manner in which it broke was notable. Choosing to forego the embargoed press release that often precedes a corporate announcement of this magnitude, Insomniac founder Pasquale Rotella took to his company's website to make the announcement this evening by personally addressing "Headliners, Family and Friends."

The fact that an alignment of this scale was announced via Insomniac's own website at 6pm Pacific Standard Time is peculiar and could suggest this arrangement came together rather abruptly while the finer details of what this will actually mean for artists, fans and sponsors alike are still being worked out. A vague Q and A section at the bottom of his letter offers nothing in the way of clarity beyond taking pains to insist Insomniac remains a "stand alone company" and will always "have the final say."

Rotella recently was arrested and subsequently posted $1.8 million in bail for charges that resulted from the death of a 15 year old at 2010's EDC which was the last time the event was held in Los Angeles' Memorial Coliseum the festival's original home. He also recently married Playboy bunny wife Holly Madison after the announcement of their first child.

Dear Headliners, Family and Friends,

For nearly 20 years, I have dedicated my entire existence to working hard to provide you with the greatest experiences imaginable. You, the fans, are the ones that have made Insomniac’s incredible success possible and it has been a dream come true for me to put on these events for you.

In order to continue to achieve these dreams, inspire you, and produce events on a scale grander than anyone ever has, I realized that Insomniac needed to do something more and to create strategic partnerships that would continue to make it possible. For me, Insomniac is more than just a company; it’s a passion that began when I was a teenager standing on street corners and handing out flyers to promote my first events. That’s why I take all aspects of choosing any partner so seriously and personally.

I am pleased to announce that Insomniac and Live Nation have formed a creative partnership that will take our events to the next level. I made this choice with my heart to expand our dreams. Live Nation and their team truly respect and understand what we do and why we do it. Together we will preserve and grow the spirit of our events and our culture. This was not a decision that was based on who offered the most money, but who is the best partner.

The Insomniac team, lead by myself, will maintain complete creative control of all events, just as we always have, only now we will all enjoy access to a much larger and diverse variety of venues and resources. Our ticket prices will continue to be fair and reasonable given the experience we provide and we will continue to surprise you and deliver more than we advertise. Your joy, your comfort, and your safety will always be our top priority. I, and everyone at Insomniac, will continue to listen to you, communicate with you, and celebrate with you. Our headliners are the most important people in our world and the music and sense of community that brings us together will not change; we want you to be inspired every single time you attend one of our events.

As I went through this decision, I had a lot of questions. All of them were about being able to continue to produce great events for you. EDC and everything I do at Insomniac is about making you happy, and making sure we all have a great time. Here are some of the important questions I had before I made the decision, and the answers that assured me we are doing the right thing. If you have more, keep asking them, and we will answer you.

Under this new partnership, will Insomniac still maintain creative control?
Absolutely. I’m so proud of the ideas we’ve brought to life over the last 20 years, and I will always strive to deliver our fans the unique and magical experiences they’ve come to expect from an Insomniac show.

Will we still be able to have that one-on-one connection with you on social media?
Most definitely. I’ll always be a fan, first and foremost, and I love staying connected to our community.

Does Live Nation now own Insomniac?
No, I did not sell the company. This is a partnership that is designed to enhance the experience for you.

What made you choose Live Nation over everyone else?
It’s simple. They get it. They don’t want to change it. They know how important our headliners are to us, and they want us to maintain that connection.

How will the Insomniac experience be affected?
With Live Nation’s resources and their numerous venues and relationships around the world, we’ll be able to bring a bigger and better Insomniac experience to even more places. This partnership was created for you, the fans, to make your experiences better.

Will we have to use Ticketmaster?
No, our ticketing services will not change. While some venues require we use their ticketing vendors, we’ll continue to use a variety of ticket providers. Different venues hold different ticketing contracts and when we decide to use those venues we cannot control who provides the tickets, and this may include Ticketmaster.

Will Insomniac be pushed to use Live Nation Venues?
No. While our partnership will allow us access to many of the world’s most prestigious venues we will choose our venue locations based on what is best for the overall vision of the event. This partnership will allow us to build and create landscapes in places that were not possible before!

Will Insomniac’s experiences be overtaken by sponsors?
No. We will have more access to opportunities and our policy will remain the same. We only work with sponsors that enhance your experience. We have and will only accept sponsors if their offerings if they make our events a better place. Again, Insomniac will have the final say.

Does this compromise the soul or integrity of Insomniac?
We are still a stand-alone company. We are excited and proud of our partnership with Live Nation – they are the largest live entertainment company in the world. When combined with our creativity, imagine the possibilities. Insomniac is a group of artists, builders and visionaries and we will continue to be just that. We consist of people who love dance music and come from dance culture. We are fans first, and we always will be.

We look forward to creating more enchanting, extraordinary and mysterious experiences, and we want all of you to share in that magic with us. Our next chapter begins now.

Sincerely and with love.

Rico Cassaza: "Holy Music Syndicate"

$

Since moving to the UK in the late 90s, Rico Cassaza has been steadily building a name for himself through his DJing, live sets and productions. With releases on labels such as Soma, Release Sustain and more, his unique take on his love for quality 4x4 techno has reached a global audience and led to him playing everywhere from London to Poland and beyond, sharing stages with the likes of Maceo Plex and Claro Intelecto. We caught up with him before his upcoming London show atThe Meoko Project on Friday, 28 June where he plays alongside Valentino Kanzyani, Jun Akimoto and Voigtmann. He told us about his first experience of Tangerine Dream, the obstacles of producing in today's musical climate and his belief in a “Holy Music Syndicate”.

How difficult has it been as a young creative, to be able to realise your creative ambitions? what have been the biggest obstacles that you think yourself and other artists face today. More than being a creative ambition, I'm doing what I do for the pleasure of doing it. It's a sort of 'inside call' that makes someone do music, and if u can make a living out of it, its even better.

One of the biggest obstacles for producers today is actually the vast ocean of bad music that comes out even day on digital portals, making it look like the electronic dance scene is something shallow, and making the dance music market appear as hammer tunes with no feeling. I believe that there is a 'holy music syndicate' , which is a common belief between good musicians, DJs and producers that recognize each other. A sort of musical freemasonry.

What is your musical background if any? What do you bring to electronic music in terms of aesthetics, approach and style? How did you get into electronic music culture? My music background is various, as I listen to very different styles of music, not only in the electronic environment. When I approach making music I just make stuff under my very personal vision of music. The very first electronic music that I heard in my life was probably Tangerine Dream. My father was a huge record collector of rock, classical, and early electronic music and I was basically absorbing like a sponge what he was listening to during my childhood.

The Meoko project is all about celebrating the diversity of modern London through art and culture… How important do you think it is for cities such as London to host these events? And do you think there should be more? I think there is already a lot of events in london about art and culture already, the Meoko project focuses more on the electronic dance music, with an attitude towards art & culture, and definitely there should be more of events like that in other cities in europe. I can see there is a rising awareness of electronic dance music events outside us, taken more as a form of culture.

Aside from music, what other forms of art and culture interest you, and do you practice anything else such as painting or designing? Do you think the relationship between art, culture, design and music is intrinsically linked in the digital age? I love music to the bone and I think I have an understanding and feeling of art, but I am not a particularly arty person. Yeah, I think the relationship between art, culture and music is very intricate in the digital age.

We hear that you like to play live. How will you leave your mark on the London crowds through what you play? What is your unique trademark so to speak and what's the set up for your live shows? I'm not really looking to leave any particular mark on the London crowd, but its always nice when you see someone getting lost in your music. It's the best feeling you can get. Then i will consider myself a very lucky guy. My set up for my live show is playing my tunes in a particular mixed up order, i have a lot of music of different genres, which makes it more colourful and full of variety. You will hear it at the Meoko project.

In terms of underground talent and rising names – from the worlds of fashion, music, art and culture – who are you championing at the moment? Who should we keep our eyes peeled for? From the world of fashion I have no idea, as I don't follow it. About music there are always talented people coming out from months to months, the list would be infinite. I'd rather tell you about my very good DJ & music friends.

My friends at 'release sustain', Gabbi Lopez & Kid AM. Music slaves & mastering engineer , Kozber. Tech-house italo bros Daniel Poli, Eartulis Day head chef Unai Trotti. Lee Fraged & Philippos N. from Freshit records, Maryam Bash, Jag Kiranmay, Luke Black, Bearight, Slavaki, Oli_N, Doubtingthomas, and many other friends around europe.

Finally, how are the following months looking like for you so far? In terms of releases, productions and more, what's on the horizon for you for you for the rest of the year? I have some music coming out in different labels: Wiggles, Cartulis Music, Release Sustain, Suspect Package, Holic Traxx and Sense Floor plus remixes and collaborations, and also more stuff on chill out /electronica genres.

Culoe De Song: Soon to release highly anticipated album ‘Exodus’

$

“I’m a DJ, I’m a producer, I’m an artist, I am a child of the Universe.” The Eshowe born Afro-house DJ Culolethu Zulu, famously known as Culoe De Song, says he’s album Exodus is almost ready for release. Having recently spent time in studio with Afro-soul singer Thandiswa Mazwai and Kobomo, Culoe is starting to push the excitement about the release.

He says he has been taking his time with the album working the collaborations, also, he carries on to say that there might be an international flavour on the album with a Carl Thomas remix as-well as doing some work with American R&B artist Glen Lewis on a recorded track called ‘Good One’.
Some of the collaborations he has been speaking about pre-seeding the release of the album ‘Exodus’ might not actually make it onto the album, however though, he says he has a lot more on the vocals this time, it’s basically a matter of choosing the song to use as the single.

Culoe De Song is being quite particular about how he wants the album to sound, thus pleased about the song he did with Shota and another artist Thandie Draai. In the pipeline he’s set to do a collab with Soul Star, a guy from Shepstone called Happy, so if it’s a particular sound he is looking for, Culoe is certainly making the efforts to achieve that.

London based party throwers Rhythmatic have a very special line up for their next outing, bringing together two stalwarts of the techno/house scenes for a rare performance.

On Saturday, 29 June Klang/Playhouse label boss Roman Flugel and Thesongsays head honcho Bruno Pronsato will be taking control of Rhythmatic to perform for the first time at the same event in London. They'll share the bill with Stathis Lazarides, Archie Hamilton and Wesley Razzy. To make this electronic music even more special, Rhythmatic will be holding the event at a new venue for the brand, taking over The Red Gallery in Shoreditch for the first time.

It's already been an exciting year for Rhythmatic, who are celebrating their fifth anniversary with a series of shows all across Europe including a recent party at Off Barcelona last week.

West Coast rap legends The Pharcyde are in a heated legal battle with...each other.

The Drop stars are embroiled in an intense legal battle over alleged breach of contracts and misuse of the bands name, with members Bootie Brown and Imano accusing ex band mates Fatlip and Slimkid3 for the breaches.

According to Brown and Imano, Fatlip and Slimkid3 have been knowingly booking shows as official performances by the band, despite the fact that the band have not performed together for six years, deliberately tricking fans into attending. The list of accusations includes unjust enrichment, trademark infringement, violation of right of publicity, injunctive and declaratory relief and unfair competition.
