NTFO (Romania | Diynamic Music) the Romanian duo are set to touch down on South African soil to play in Cape Town and Joburg.  The Cape Town party will take place on Friday the 28th of June at Strange Loving on the rooftop of the Mandela Rhodes Hotel with a limited 150 tickets available.  A night in town before getting ready to interrogate the floor at a Joburg dance institute – Truth.

In the beginning, it didn’t take long at all before they managed be key players in the industry for names like: Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola, Loco Dice or Luciano and from their first album on vinyl up until now they have graced around the globe with their sound at some of the biggest festivals in electronic dance music. Respect earned a long time ago, and although you most probably know all this already, it seems fitting to mention it in prep for the sets we’re about to hear at the end of the month.

Last year the guys pulled a lot of attention with their collaboration with H.O.S.H and Malonda for Diynamic055 which was totally well-deserved, off the wake of that they have also recently released a three track various artists EP with a collaboration between Netherlands export Karmon, an absolute gem of a tune that’s still killing dancefloors, you might recognise it as ‘Nobody Else’.

Swiss DJ and producer Andrea Oliva has been doing the rounds for some time. Never far from the lips of anyone discussing the current house scene, Oliva seemed like the perfect choice to do an exclusive Pulse mix.

With years of DJing experience already under his belt, he starting producing music, with his first track being released in 2004. He quickly began to rack up releases on labels such as Viva Music, Hideout and Cadenza Lab. Since then, he has made a name for himself by DJing in some of the biggest clubs in the world, becoming a regular fixture at the Cadenza parties at Pacha and Ushuaia in Ibiza, as well as performances at Berlin's most notorious techno establishment the Berghain.

Oliva will be playing at Freeze in Liverpool this Saturday, alongside Cadenza buddy Luciano, Josef K and Reboot. With 17 hours of music across three venues, with tickets starting at the extremely affordable price of £30 and the proceeds going to a very good cause (Claire’s House Hospice) it's worth every penny.

Being comical is second nature for German techno DJ/producer Flula Borg (aka Flula), who currently lives in LA. Aside from his personal uploads on his popular Youtube channel, Flula has made cameos on Current TV, produced two albums, and has appearances at The Viper Room. In this video, watch as he grapples with the concept of what is a "party pooper" with his hilariously thick German accent.

Finding the Underground at EDC

The set times for this year’s Electric Daisy Carnival Vegas have just been released. The festival, put on by Insomniac Events, takes place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend from Friday, June 21st to Monday, June 23rd. The festival features eight different stages with a variety of artists from all genres of electronic music.

The schedule for the main stage brings back EDC regulars such as Armin van Buuren and Afrojack on Friday, Avicii and Tiesto on Saturday, and Above & Beyond, Calvin Harris, and Steve Angello on Sunday.

Richie Hawtin will be turning the neonGARDEN stage into an ENTER. experience once more, featuring Loco Dice, Paco Osuna, Hobo, and Matador. Carl Cox’s first performance will be on Saturday at his Carl Cox & Friends stage alongside Adam Beyer, John Digweed, Dubfire, and Green Velvet. On Sunday night, the neonGARDEN stage will be hosted by Get Lost and features artists Jamie Jones, Sasha, Art Department, Damian Lazarus, and Pete Tong among others.

What peaked our interest is the inclusion of some of our favorite underground acts on the main stage "kineticFIELD" Sunday line up, in addition to their performances on the neonGARDEN stage on Friday and Saturday. It's no doubt credit to Insomniac's Carlos Correal and his work as music director and his interest in exposing wider audiences to experiencing different sounds, endowing underground music with a spotlight it deserves.

Jonny Cruz & The Good Times Express

$

Jonny Cruz is an international man of (musical) mystery. Nomadic by nature, he was born in Puerto Rico before spending parts of his childhood in San Diego, Venezuela and Miami. He spent time in New York in the mid 2000's before moving to London but he's just as at home in Berlin or, as he details in our chat below, a yacht in the Adriatic Sea off the coast of Croatia.

His sound can loosely be characterized as a unique blend of deep house and techno but we'll let the exclusive mix he's supplied us with below speak for itself. His recent productions have landed on Tiefschwarz's forthcoming Renaissance Mix Compilation and in the past has released through a myriad of labels ranging from Cocoon to Poker Flat. He's working with Ray Zuniga and Mikey Tello (Pillowtalk) on an exciting new label called Touch of Class and has a new track out on Aeon which is a collaboration he did with the label's founder Alex Niggeman.

Ahead of his appearance at Lovelife in San Diego this weekend we caught up with Mr. Cruz during some down time he was having at a bar in Playa Del Carmen with fellow DJ Jordan Peak and Alex Herman who, in addition to throwing the best underground events in the area with his Footloose venture, is also an integral member of the BPM Festival organization. It's a testament to one of Cruz's other strengths, making friends and having a good time.

You’ve been moving around a lot. You were only at Sonar for a short time before you bounced out of there. How was it? We were there for two days. The second day I played the My Favorite Robot beach party, which was amazing. We had Jori Hulkkonen, It’s A Fine Line, Tim Paris, Ivan Smagghe and Timo Maas. The party was fucking amazing and probably one of the highlights of my year so far. Right after the party, I had to go straight to the airport. I flew in great condition.

So it was Barcelona straight to Cancún airport? Yeah, I got to Cancún arrive in Playa Del Carmen, slept for a few hours, and then played a party. I play on Thursday in Mexico City, Friday in León, then I join My Favorite Robot for the Lovelife party in San Diego. I am excited to return to San Diego because I haven't been back there since I lived there as a child. Then I play in Texas for three dates in McAllen, Houston, and El Paso. Then Las Vegas, then Miami at The Pickle, and then back to London for the Motek Party.

Have you ever played for Motek before? No, I haven’t.

How did you get to know Matt Hardinge who runs it? I got to know Matt through Silky actually. They’re really good mates.

I feel like Silky’s having a big year. Yeah, Silky’s making a name for himself. He’s playing quite steadily. We have a new duo collaboration thing together. I’m not going to mention what our name is but our first release is going to be on Lee Burridge's label Get Weird. So that’s another thing to look forward to, our new duo.

Yesterday you just dropped “Just A Little” on Alex Niggeman’s new label AEON. Yeah, it’s a track that I worked on with Alex. It had to be like a year and a half ago in Berlin. I didn’t remember that I worked on it with him and about two months ago he hits me up and was like ‘Jonny, I got a surprise for you.’ And he sends me these three tracks, our original with the Steve Bug remix and the Glimpse remix. And I was like ‘What the fuck’s this?’ And I’m like ‘Oh shit, right.’ So it was kind of a surprise. It was kind of funny. The Glimpse remix was a pleasant surprise as well. I included it in my exclusive mix for Pulse.

When did you find out that one of your records was going to be on the new Tiefschwarz Renaissance Compilation? That was actually kind of funny because I didn’t even send the track as a demo. Sierra Sam does all the A&R for Souvenir and their new label NAU, which is the label that’s releasing the track. Sierra Sam and I have been friends for years. He’s one of my dear friends. He always sends me his new music and I always send him my new music. So I didn’t send it as a demo, I just send it like ‘Hey, here’s my new shit. Listen to it.’ Two weeks later he hits me up and he’s like ‘Yo, Basti and Ali are going crazy about this track. They want to put it on the new Renaissance mix CD. They want to release it.’ That’s how it happened. They’ve always been like that. I’ve always been inspired by Tiefschwarz. They’re great artists. They’re great guys and I’ve always been keen on their sound.

So, Touch of Class, your label. Let’s talk about that for a second. I’ve only heard “Drug Lips.” What else is coming out from there? “Drug Lips” is the B-side actually. The A-side is my track with Signal Flow featuring Aquarius Heaven. It’s called “Dirty Hands.” Last summer we were all in Croatia at the Garden Festival and a friend of ours rented a yacht. We were all on the yacht for a week and we were having a great time, really having bromance time. In the midst of all of our partying and our hanging out, we were just like ‘yo, we should open a label together.’ And it just came up and we did it.

It’s basically you, Ray Zuniga, and Mikey Tello, right? Yeah, they financed it and I’m more like the A&R, kind of co-founder too but in the back behind the scenes. It’s a bit more their thing but I’m in it with them.

What a way to kick off a label though with a three-day straight post BPM party on the beach in Tulum though, right? Yeah, we had the WMC party too, which wasn’t on the same scale as the Tulum party because the Tulum party was amazing. It had such a great turnout. Everybody ended up going and we had such a great time. The WMC party was good too. It was kind of more like an intimate mixer, kind of all the DJs, all the producers, all the label owners. They showed mad love and support for us, so we’re really happy.

When will that be available for purchase? Right now, digitally we can release it anytime we want because we already have distributions for the digital aspect of it. We’re still waiting for physical distribution for the vinyls. We already have some prospective companies, but we’re still working on it. We don’t want to release the digital before the vinyl because that makes no sense at all. We have five hundred vinyls pressed already. I have a huge box of vinyls already sitting at my house so…soon. In the next two months, it will be out.

Aquarius Heaven…Who else is in that extended family? Who’s going to have forthcoming work on there? We’ve got Cesare vs Disorder, Avatism, myself, Corey Baker who’s making amazing stuff right now. You just wait. We have loads of people. I don’t want to spill too many of the beans right now.

What’s the secret to keeping the music flowing when you’re tired and hungover and flying around all the time? Weed. I’m a heavy cannabis enthusiast.

What's the key to ensuring you still get things done in a city as known for its party scene as London? I try not to go out that much because I try to be in the studio more when I’m in London. I’m not going to say I don’t go out. I do go out if there’s a friend in town who’s playing, someone that I really want to see playing, or a friend throwing a party. But that’s basically every weekend so I don’t know. It’s kind of difficult to stay away from the parties but I try to as much as possible.

It probably wasn’t as easy five years ago to keep the records flowing. When do you think you started to really catch the momentum that you’ve had for the last couple of years? When was a defining moment when you really started to feel like it was really going to be something that was going to be a career? It’s been hard. I’ve been struggling for awhile and I’ve been working hard at it and doing my thing but at the same time it’s always been in the back of my mind like ‘wait, maybe I should get a job and kind of do this on the side.’ And not until recently was I kind of like ‘ok, now I’m comfortable. I can focus on doing this and not worry about bills and having to get a day job.’ I’d say probably from the last six months. I’ve been making music for ten years plus. Some people, when they come out and they have a hit, that’s it. It hasn’t been the case with me. It’s been slow.

In the past, I’ve had to ask my family for help to pay a bill or something. And I’ve had good advice from my family because they love me, suggesting that maybe I pick up something else, do something else with my life. And I always tell them ‘no, I’m not gonna give up.’ There’s no way. I’m glad I did.

What else is going on these days for you? I also have my “Supernature” track coming out on the Kolors compilation. I’m working on my album for My Favorite Robot, which should be out by early next year. It will be really cool. I’m six tracks deep into it but it’s going to be good.

Any big Ibiza plans or festivals? I’m playing at Sankeys in Ibiza in September. In August, I’m coming back to the states and Ecuador and a few dates in the States. Let’s see how good my booking agent is.

What’s her name again? Joanna Miles.

Are you with Air London? I’m with Air London, yeah. My agent is Joanna Miles. I have a great relationship with her and she’s really amazing, so I don’t mind mentioning her at all.

Instagram Goes Video

Head on to the app store to update your Instagram because they've just launched the new video feature! Take fifteen second videos that can be adjusted with thirteen filters to choose from. The update was announced this morning and rolled out for both iPhones and Android phones today. "We need to do to video what we did to photos," Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom commented earlier today at the press conference on the necessary update.  Facebook's Instagram now joins in direct competition of Vine, which is associated with Twitter. In light of this, Vine released a few upgrades of their own. The two biggest social media moguls further compete to vie for their users' attention as well as engagement.

We took a test of the video feature ourselves on the streets of New York City. You can see from the images below that the interface hasn't changed drastically. You shoot the video, apply the filter, and now select a cover photo and share. People who are tired of constantly switching between apps to do their social sharing of photos and videos can now rest easy that Instagram takes care of it all.

Francesca Lombardo is one of our favorites here at Pulse.  The Crosstown Rebels' rising star was featured on our podcast and if you want to find out more about her music and travels, you can check out the interview here. Francesca is in the midst of a busy tour schedule, stopping by New York City for only a hot second to play the Bespoke Musik party this Friday alongside Corey Baker and Rami Deejay. We managed to catch Francesca before her next flight for a quick pit stop catch up.

Click the flyer below to buy tickets to see Francesca in New York City on Pulse:

We recently saw a great video of your playing Arenele in Romane Bucharest online. It looks like a great show-how was it for you? What makes a a festival experience stand out for you-and what makes it not as fun to participate in? I played at Arenele Romane last year in June alongside Guti and Matthias Tanzmann. It was my first great gig and I've come back to Bucharest twice since then. I love those guys and Nights.ro who made last week was another wonderful experience. I love peaceful festivals where the energy is positive, people are smiling, and there is no fighting or police taking people out.

You're returning to NYC after a particularly impressive set for Robot Heart which has so far amassed 15,272 listens in the month since it's been posted-how does it feel to get such a massive response? I was impressed myself…Robot Heart has a big list of followers and it feels great to know they all supporting me.

We heard through the grapevine that while you were in the city last you collaborated with some other artists and had some particularly successful results. Would you be interested in telling us a little bit more about who you worked with and when and where fans can expect to check out the fruits of your labor? Who is that little bird telling all my secrets?

You'll be joining Richie Hawtin's ENTER party at Space Ibiza this season which is looking almost incomprehensibly massive all season long. That's really exciting-where else can people on the White Isle catch you this season? I have a couple of gigs at Circoloco. I am really thankful to whoever made this happen for me, it's exciting!!!

It seems like your busy touring schedule kept you away from Sonar this year, if you'd been able to attend where might we have found you over the weekend? Whose parties were you bummed out to miss? Did rocking Bucharest and Torino help keep your mind off of things? Definitely Innervisions and Life and Death parties if I was there as well as the One Records' Save the Day party. However, I was happy with going to both Bucharest and Turin. I wasn't missing being at Sonar - let's just say both Bucharest and Turin entertained me well.

You'll be playing for Bespoke Musik in NYC this Friday night before jetting off to Mexico and then Las Vegas for what will almost certainly be an interesting edition of Get Lost in Sin City. Will you have any time to enjoy The Big Apple before you play or will it just be hotels and restaurants as usual? I won't be able to enjoy the Big Apple, but I might just have time to eat one!

New Survey: Wealthy People More Likely to Pirate Music

$

0

A recent study conducted by the Australasian Performing Rights Association made an interesting and somewhat surprising conclusion about the relationship between piracy rates and household income. Using a sample of 1,000 adults, the survey found that higher income people tend to pirate content more than people with a lower household income.  21% of those in the sample claim to have illegally downloaded and shared music. Age also seems to play a factor in the decision to pirate music since 44% of the confirmed pirates were under the age of thirty and only 11% were between the ages of 50 and 69.

The relationship between the rate of piracy increasing as net household income increased.  Only 14% of the pirates live in households with an income of less than A$40,000 ($36,700 in US dollars) compared to 27% in households earning in between A$60,000 and A$100,000 ($55,100 to $91,700 US dollars) and 30% in households earning more than A$100,000 ($91,700 US dollars).

Copyright Digital Music News

It is likely that wealthier people tend to pirate content more because they enjoy greater access to the technologies that are needed to do so such as computers and high speed internet. In addition, the rich may be lazier and try to outsmart the system.

If you're a vinyl junkie and happen to have a spare $10k lying around (is that an oxymoron?), perhaps you should consider purchasing DanceRecords.com's inventory - currently up for sale on ebay with a starting bid of, you guessed it, $10,000.

DanceRecords.com was the major retailer for vinyl in the USA, winning the award for best retailer at Winter Music Conference in 2005. The ebay advert claims all the records are new, not used, and the collection ranges through all genres of dance music, from house to disco to techno. It's a serious haul for one lucky buyer, that's for certain.

As the website puts it: "Many sellers say they have a rare collections, but this truly is a rare collection. There are probably only 2 or 3 other collections like this in the world, and they are at active record stores in Europe."

There is a sample of 1,000 titles from the catalogue over at the ebay ad, with the entire stock list available for download.

Maribou State - Tongue EP

Maribou State
Tongue EP
Southern Fried Record

Maribou State’s latest, Tongue EP (released via Southern Fried Records), is a shinning showcase of talent and will keep you coming back for more. Holly Walker’s vocals are haunting as they float over Maribou State’s dynamic production.

The title track, ”Tongue," is punctuated by surprising drum fills and subtle organic sounds; distant birds and a de-tuned piano add an eerie quality to its restless energy. The tone remains rather “blue” and jazzy throughout, but has an aggressive quality that adds an intriguing amount of raw tension and heat; Holly's vocals are sultry and pull on a state of emotional serenity. The entire track comes to a halt on the last note of her singing.

The expertly crafted remix by James Welsh is so good, the EP includes both a vocal version and an instrumental one as well. Doing what he does best, Welsh gets down to the soul of things with lush house chords, retro synth sounds, and a driving beat. Tirelessly and effortlessly, Welsh adds a delicate beauty to an already gorgeous track. As an added bonus, his cheeky “Knackered 808 remix” plays off the simple impulse of typical 808 sounds.

Drew Hill’s remix of “Tongue” is equally delightful, borrowing elements from future garage, tropical house, and UK bass. Hill’s sparse beat rolls on with relentless momentum; the grimy bass a perfect compliment to the sexy vocal chop.

Finishing off the EP is the emotion packed groove, “Lark Rise.” Progressive, melodic, and packed with positive club vibrations, it’s obvious Maribou State doesn’t plan on cutting the party short any time soon.

One Shot: Hector On Making The 1trax FOUR Compilation

$
0
0

From working at Phonica Records to now swaying thousands of people with his solid style of well rounded selections of techno and house, Hector is part of the next generation of DJs and producers who are steadily padding into the scene, taking their spots amongst the greats who already rule the landscape. 1trax did well to take precedent by inviting Hector to reign over the fourth installment of their compilation series. Taking a rather uncommon approach, Hector was determined to do it live by using one of his sets from the ENTER. Tokyo show at Womb. We can only imagine what a pleasure it must have been to get down on the dance floor in this dark cavernous hall to this extremely well executed mix. Like he says later in the interview, he keeps the tracks it all true to his style, allowing for a smooth continuous journey that gradually picks up the pace, as the club fills up. With tracks that feature eerie vocals paired with the sound of rain to deep sub-ridden basslines that vibrate through to our bones, the compilation is an inward exploration of the mind and an outward journey of our body's movements. As with all music, words do little justice for what is meant to be heard and felt. After Hector tells us what it takes to put together the mix for 1trax, be sure to preview it in the Beatport player.

How were you approached to do the 1trax’s mix compilation?  How did that come about? Dave Elquevez, who runs 1trax’s label, used to come to a party I used to play in London a long time ago called Cubicle at a public toilet converted into a bar.  You could only fit 120 people there and it was kind of like an illegal after party on a Sunday.  He used to come there all the time and listen to my sets and just kind of followed my career.  One day I just got an email that he wanted to talk to me about a few projects.  First thing I did was a remix for his label and the second thing was the offer to do the compilation.  I was really happy to do the compilation. The two done before mine were by Huxley and Subb-an.  They are really good compilations so I wanted to do something a bit different and I came up with the idea of recording it live because I haven’t seen a compilation recorded live in the last few years.

How did you decide which gig to make your live recording from? I had a few gigs coming up.  I had the Desolat Experience at Fabric, ENTER. in Tokyo, and the BPM Festival in Playa del Carmen. I had three opportunities to do the compilation and but first I needed to collect the music. I thought what can I give that is extra to the compilation.  I asked a few of my friends to give me exclusive tracks for the compilation.  Then I went to tINI, Anthea, John Dimas, and Fernando Costantini so they gave me four amazing tracks that were kind of like underground, old school, and new stuff.  I used a little bit of everything but kept it all my style.

The other idea I had was to have a vinyl sampler of all the exclusive tracks to push the compilation a little bit more.  It was a really interesting project.  All the little things started to come up like the vinyl exclusive tracks, what to include, and where to record it. Then I thought that the ENTER. gig in Tokyo was probably going to be the best. Tokyo is my favorite city in the world, Womb club is my favorite club in the world and I thought, you know what, let’s just try it there.

Doing it this way was a big risk.  I was really nervous.  A little problem on the mix and then that’s it - it could get ruined.  I went to Tokyo, I went to the sound check and all the Japanese people were so professional.  I didn’t have any problems, whatsoever.  We tried it and the compilation came out amazing.  I didn’t have any mistakes.  The flow of the mixes was really good.  I changed a couple of them on the go.  I kind of improvised.  It’s not like I had been practicing the mix.  If it was going to come out that way, it needed to be natural.

Would you mind setting up how that club night was?  How did it feel?  What was the ambiance like for people who haven’t been there and didn’t experience it? Well the place was for about 15,000 people, so the room was super big and I was the second one to play. I had about thirty to forty tracks to choose from depending on the crowd and on the vibe.  That’s how I needed to do the mix.  I couldn’t have planned my mix at the beginning of the night.  When I started playing, it was like half full with about 8,000 people so I had to start playing really deep.  The Japanese people are an amazing crowd.  They know the music.  They know why they’re going to this event, because they know the DJs they're seeing.  They’re really geeks.  I started playing and I started to follow the direction of the people.  I started to do the mixes and it all worked.

You have those bonus tracks on the vinyl sampler.  Why only vinyl? I used to work at Phonica Records for almost seven years so I have a very big collection.  Every week, I still buy everything on vinyl.  I also play digital but all my EPs and releases are on vinyl.  Every single one.  The last one I did for Siesta is on vinyl.  Remixes are a little bit different.  Sometimes, I support people that have small labels with really cool music.  But you know, these days, to produce vinyl is really expensive.  But still, everyone’s playing vinyl now.  I could do remixes for a digital label, but I’m more focused on vinyl and I’m still a big supporter of it.  That was my main concern, to support vinyl.

Have you got anything cooking in the studio? I’m working on an album right now.  I don’t know how long that’s going to take because I’m trying completely new stuff, different stuff.  I’m recording musicians and vocalists.  It’s a little bit like a puzzle.  It’s something new but I’m just trying something a little bit different than my usual stuff.  That’s the fun part at the moment because I have one idea but the musicians have completely different ideas.  We try something new together.  We mix things together and it becomes something super special.  That’s the really interesting party of doing it live with live musicians.

I’m looking forward to it coming out.  Hopefully not too long. I’m hoping the same but it’s difficult with the touring and right now the summer so whenever I have the chance to record someone, I just do it.  Like next week, I’m going to record for two days, and then again on the road for three weeks, and again another two days.  Whenever I have the chance, I record. I’m coming back again to the States in July and I’m planning to record then while I’m there.  Basically, I’m putting parts together.  Once I have a lot of stuff, then I will start to finalize the projects and see how it comes out.

Speaking of summer, are you playing a lot on Ibiza?  Don’t you wish you could just stay there the entire time? No, because then it’s trouble.  I’ll be here a lot in August I’m playing almost every week for Dice’s new party Used + Abused and then I’ll play in July for ENTER., which is Richie Hawtin, Dice, and me. I’m doing a lot in September for the closing parties.  As I said, in July I’m back in the States and I’m doing another three weeks there.  It’s a bit of a crazy summer.

Sounds like you’re very busy.  As an artist, is there someone who currently inspires you?  Someone you look up to? Yeah, there’s people like Loco Dice, Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Adam Beyer.  It’s people I’ve been spending a lot of time with recently, not only musically but everything that involves their gigs, their labels, their shows, and their team.  Everything is really inspiring and it’s really interesting to be part of what they’re doing because I get to learn a lot and improve my sets, my music, my work, and my lifestyle.  Everything is really interesting at the moment.

Dice’s and Rich’s teams are definitely very inspirational. Yeah, and I’ve been spending a lot of time with them.  I did pretty much every single international ENTER.  We did Madrid, Romania, Tokyo, a few other ones with Dice.  We’ve been working for two years.  We did the Desolat Experience and now Used + Abused.  Richie and Dice work a lot together so it’s super cool for me to be hanging out with both of them.

Is there a piece of gear or equipment that is high on your wish list that you’d like to get your hands on? I need a 909.  I have an 808 but I need a 909.  That’s the last thing on my wish list.  Take note.  I need a 909.  My birthday’s September 23rd.  If you don’t want to wait until Christmas you can get it for me earlier.

We’ll see if anybody bites the hook.  You also played a great, fun set at Movement this year.  How did you like it? Detroit Movement was amazing.  I think it was one of my favorite gigs this year.  I have no words.  Just that it was amazing.  The people, the place, everything was amazing.  It's my favorite gig so far this year.

Fuzzy has revealed the lineup for its inaugural Listen Out event that was announced on Wednesday - the national "intelligent dance music" party which replaces Parklife in 2013. True to their word, organisers have cut the fat and presented a taut list of big commercial hitters mixed with solid underground players. Fresh from their debut visit last year for the Field Day and Summadayze festivals, hotter-than-hell UK house duo Disclosure return to lead the charge, with controversy-courting Harlem rapper Azealia Banks and bass fiends TNGHT, aka Lunice and Hudson Mohawke, closely in tow.

UK beatsmith Duke Dumont, hip-pop duo AlunaGeorge and Future Classic disco purveyors Classixx round off the second tier of names, while the DJ side of things looks to be in great hands with Hot Creations star Miguel Campbell and the Leeds hailing Laura Jones, who has just been added to Richie Hawtin's ENTER. 2013 lineup at Space in Ibiza. There's also the much anticipated return of Spanish producer John Talabot, who will be bringing his newly developed live show down under for the first time.

Disco-pop-house producers Touch Sensitve and Sydney outfit RüFüS are the lone Aussies on the roster so far, with many more local acts to be announced in the coming months. Electronic Music is Next for Aerosmith's Steven Tyler

It looks like a lot more rock stars are jumping on the electronic music bandwagon. First, it was Paul McCartney, now it's Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. Who's next?

In an recent interview with Rolling Stone, Steven goes as far as saying that he is a huge Skrillex fan and recently ate lunch with Deadmau5. In fact, Tyler was so impressed with Joel Zimmerman he went on to say "[Deadmau5]'s got incredible ideas for his next tour – blew me away, what he's gonna do. He's a single guy. He makes all the money himself when he puts the mouse head on, so he's got a ton of money. He knows where to take it, and he's still relevant. So it was a sick dinner, it was fucking unreal. I want to go out and explore things . . . I really want to take a little risk here and do something solo."

By "solo," Steven means he's now on to making his first solo album. In speaking about his previous experience with electronica he references Stockhausen about whom wikipedia says: "He is known for his ground-breaking work in electronic music, aleatory (controlled chance) in serial composition, and musical spatialization."

Steven further states he has "weird fucking music" he'd like to produce. We hope he's being sincere with the "weird" and not simply recreating the sound of commercial electronic music that is out there now. Steer towards Deadmau5, Steven, it may be a better choice.
