According to the Flying Circus team, ‘the Flying Circus concept was birthed, like all the best ideas, by accident. The aim? To celebrate life with good people while enjoying great music. Simple. Flying Circus brings together the music loving family to climb the walls in primal elation, surrendering our physical bodies to pure auditory joy. It’s primal and gritty, and speaks to your soul with no glossy adjectives.’ And what better place to hold an affair such as this than the dark, anything goes basement of one of Ibiza’s hottest clubs, Sankeys. Running for 13 weeks over the course of the season, this soiree kicks off this Friday, featuring the likes of Carl Craig, dOP (live), SIS (live), Dance Spirit (live), Arado, and more. We caught up with two Sankeys first-timers, SIS and Arado, to chat about their hopes and expectations for the party, as well as werewolves, gypsies, full bosomed women, 15th century tarts, and of course, bass bitches!
First off, you have been playing here in Ibiza for quite a few years now, but this will be your first time at Sankeys Ibiza. What have you heard about it, and are you looking forward to playing there? SIS: Some DJ friends of mine like Butch have told me that Sankeys is a dirty, grimy, filthy, sweatbox basement club with no windows or sunlight, which is good. I don't want anything to affect my usual crowd of nightlife vampires and werewolves. We will all dine in blood. You know, Ibiza is always so sunny and hot, and I am currently playing there once a month for my free beach party CIRCLE at Sirocco, so to be able to take a crowd on a wild hypnotic trip with nothing to distract them, like a nice sunset view or girls in bikinis, is a welcome atmosphere for me. Take the bass, bitches! This is SIS, live!
Arado: Oh yeah, of course, I’m really looking forward to play there! I’ve heard only good things. I mean, we are talking about Sankeys, it’s one of the best clubs there.
Have you played for any Flying Circus parties before? If so, how was it? SIS: Yes, I've played many times for the FC crew in Antwerp. They are funny people, like a group of gypsies with nothing but booze and floozy women with huge bosoms to entertain me after flying from Berlin. In fact, after playing for Flying Circus I changed my rider to always include 15th century tarts, which is truly a necessity for me to play well now.
Arado: No not yet, this is my first time and I’m very proud about being a part of Flying Circus this summer. I’m very excited and extremely grateful for this chance.
Is there anyone you’re especially excited to see on the lineup that night? SIS: Of course the Audiofly guys are cool and I like their funny faces. I especially like Carl Craig, although I think I must teach him the SIS ‘Hierbas Swing’ on the night, as I feel he would benefit from having such knowledge of contemporary dance moves. These old Detroit guys need to keep up with trends, man.
Arado: Oh yes, Audiofly, obviously and my man SIS. We play a lot together at Ibiza, which is always nice. Actually I’m looking forward to all the other DJ’s playing. It will be a night to remember!
I think your new down and dirty remix of for Federico Locchi & Watch might go down pretty well in the notoriously underground Basement at Sankeys, think we might get a taste of if that night? Arado: Thanks! Yes I will definitely play that one. I’ve also made a lot of new tracks and a remix for my homie Yaya – can’t wait to drop them!
And finally, any chance we might hear your wicked remix of Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ (which can be found here) at the Flying Circus opening party? SIS: Haha, yes if you guys get lucky! I made that edit in just a couple of hours, however the reaction was really big so it inspired me to remix other pop groups. Get set for forthcoming SIS edits of the Spice Girls, Cotton Eye Joe and Crazy Frog. Whoopa!
You can catch SIS & Arado at Sankeys Ibiza tomorrow Friday 12th July for the Grand Opening of Flying Circus!
