"Burning Man is where white folks get to start fires and not put a black person on it!"

This is quite possibly the best rant about Burning Man we've ever witnessed and also a great message on the spirit of coming together, too.

An African American woman likens the cult phenomenon of Burning Man to a KKK rally, but without the racism, before going on to briefly recount her experience at the festival and how much she "had a ball" with "all them white folks."

Watch below. Just awesome.

Regsitration for Burning Man 2014 is now open. Check here.

In light of the strict rules for DJs playing new Las Vegas club AFTER which has been doing the rounds - which strictly prohibits hip-hop, trap and dubstep, as well as playing any tracks by David Guetta, Hardwell, Tiesto or Avici - we've once again sourced some excellent notes from the blog 'No Breasts, No Requests'. After years of longing, Australian fans are finally getting their fair dues with Swedish jock Eric Prydz coming to Australia in March for the Future Music Festival. As well as his appearances for the festival, Prydz has just announced a string of headline club gigs in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

All four gigs are special after-party sets that will follow his FMF sets later in the evening and are billed as a minimum of three hours. Both of Prydz' protégés Jeremy Olander and Fehrplay will play support sets.

Eric Prydz' tour to Australia is one of the most anticipated for the country in a long time - the Swede is infamous for his fear of flying, which has unhinged several attempted tours down under in the past.

Robert F.X. Sillerman Sued By Three Industry Veterans

The Wall Street Journal is reporting today that three dance music industry veterans are suing the founder of SFX Entertainment Inc., Robert F.X Sillerman. The suit alleges that Sillerman defrauded them out of stock valued at more than $100 million, and that they gave Mr. Sillerman the idea behind what is now SFX Entertainment - a large conglomerate of electronic-dance-music festivals and promoters. The plaintiffs allege that the entrepreneur went back on a commitment to give them significant share in SFX, which, according to The Wall Street Journal, "raised $260 million last year in a public stock offering that valued the company at more than $1 billion."

Plaintiffs Paolo Moreno, who has worked as the manager of promoter "Disco Donnie" Estopinal, DJ manager Lawrence Vavra, and Moreno's brother, Gabriel, claim that Mr. Sillerman and his associates “engaged in fraud and breached contracts they had entered.”

The Wall Street Journal Reports that, “Over the course of the year, the suit claims, Mr. Sillerman and his representatives avoided the plaintiffs' repeated requests to formalize the deal, the suit alleges, sending them only draft employment agreements with less favorable terms than had been agreed upon—and with no mention of the founders' shares.”

The suit also states that, "Sillerman made this misrepresentation in an effort to conceal his deceptive scheme to dilute Plaintiffs' ownership stakes in SFX and thereby induce them to continue working on SFX's behalf."

A spokesman for SFX said the company "will vigorously defend this baseless lawsuit."

What’s been happening at the CTEMF Workshops so far?

CTEMF has rolled in adjusting earlobes, perceptions, ideals and mind states. Two days into the workshops and a few days short of the festivities, CTEMF has already so far exceeded expectations.

The workshops have offered revellers the opportunity to meet, interact and network with other budding artists. Everyone is able to interact and share knowledge and gain access to secrets of what it takes to be successful in various trades. Red Bull has kindly offered its studios and other facilities to ensure a very pleasant experience; their work in the music industry has made events such as this possible.

Due to the diverse nature of the festival and the music industry, these workshops lay down the frame work for the future of electronic music and ensure that there is sustainability by empowering every individual with the knowledge that they may need in the future. It's great to see that the festival has gone to great lengths to cater for a majority of genres and styles and artists.

The line up has so far included the Original Jazzy Jay, Caspa, Raymond Bloom, Portable, BodyCode and many others. The message imparted in some of the workshops make it clear that in order to build and strengthen the local scene we need to strive to create brands and not just events, and that professionalism is key to success. Strong emphasis was made on the importance of the communal nature of music as it unites people from all spectrums of life, and it's this community that gives birth to new artists, movements and sounds.

Thursday marks the last day of these workshops and Dixon is the guest speaker, so if you are in Cape Town make your way down to Guga S'Thebe in Langa and get your mind adjusted, CTEMF is the open and the deep-end of it all right now, so try not to miss out.

Cluster Headache Sufferers Find Relief in Psychedelics

It's been a pretty darn good few months for proponents of medicinal, well, insert your drug of choice here. With the news that medicinal marijuana growing by leaps and bounds in the US, recent reports that MDMA may help treat sufferers of severe psychological trauma, along with report stating that MDMA could be a prescription drug by 2021, and a study that determined  that psychedelics may improve mental health, comes more good news: psychedelics may be ablet to help treat cluster headaches, some of the most intensely painful headaches people can get. In fact, some sufferers actually commit suicide to escape the unbearable pain.

Artist's rendition of a cluster headache.

According to Brian E. McGeeney, MD, MPH, a neurologist and Assistant Professor of Neurology at Boston University School of Medicine, cluster headaches are a “disorder that destroys people emotionally. The use of hallucinogens gives them a break, which they wouldn’t otherwise get. Many feel ignored or let down by the medical community. Physicians lose interest in them as treatments don’t work. The use of [psychedelics] is a last resort.”

Cluster headaches can be likened to “an icepick piercing your brain through your eyes,” and can last for up to 90 minutes, at times debilitating patients so intensely that they can't function normally in society - and there's no known cure. In fact, the suicide rate is 20 times higher than the national average for cluster headache patients, according to a report published by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), a 501(c)(3) non-profit research and educational organisation dedicated to expanding the usages of psychedelics and marijuana.

Luckily, help could be on the way. Upon hearing stories from ClusterBusters, a non profit organisation that specialises in finding cures for cluster headaches, reports of patients who, took LSD and saw their symptoms regress, Dr. John Halpern, MD, is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School suggested looking into non-hallucinogenic 2-Bromo-LSD, instead of LSD, because although it’s similar in chemical structure to LSD, a huge bromine atom prevents receptors in the brain from picking up the hallucinogenic properties of the drug. And it worked.

“One patient had cluster headaches for 27 years. He had debilitating 3-month long cycles, and wasn’t responding to meds. He was devastated. He was getting 40 cluster headaches a week.” After his treatment, he had zero headaches for 17 months," Dr. Halpern said.

This might not just be good news for cluster patients, Halpern thinks. “This drug [2-Bromo-LSD] could be a blockbuster, just for cluster headache, but what if it turns out it’s good for migraines too?” Maybe one day soon, psychedelics will render headaches a thing of the past.

Psy City: miHouse 2nd Birthday in Full review

$

Set in the vibrant city of Johannesburg, miHouse nightclub has an industrial appeal, a warehouse feel, which is perfect for an underground party. Over the past 2 years this venue has hosted many successful events such as ‘Let’s swing it’, ‘YogYog’, and ‘Teknotribe’ to name a few.

Teknotribe and Let’s Swing It joined forces to celebrate miHOUSE 2nd Birthday bash on the 1st of February 2014. Three different floors offered a variety of beats from edgy techno, swanky swing, and progressively groovy Psychedelic Trance.

Upon an early arrival, we noticed a massive queue lined up already with partygoers ready to go, I could tell we were in for a banger of a night. This wild crowd that parties till dawn had a super charged energy that was ready to explode onto all 3 dance floors, which boasted an incredible local line-up supported by banging sound with ground-shaking-bass provided by the main stage, with the Martin audio sound rig. The décor on each floor was diverse, complimenting the distinct character of the music.

I made my way to the Psy floor hosted by Psy.ology outside, where Stereotype energized the crowd with his signature rolling progressive sounds. This floor emanated with positive vibrations as keen stomping bodies danced in the puddles under the rainfall. The Psy trance progressed into the night from a full on sound to more tight and groovy psychedelic beats. Killer Ben vs Hegchick played a deliciously twisted set on the Psy.ology floor, which pulsed with a purely psychedelic sound.  These two have so much fun behind the decks and definitely amped up the crowd with their tricky twisted tunes. This is where the magic of our music is felt and the vibe comes alive with all your buddies around. Mayhem unleashed itself onto the Psy floor as we were taken into some next level partying!

Next door was the ‘Lets swing it’ stage. This floor is hidden within the club. Picture walking into the 70’s! Stylish retro décor, disco balls and chandeliers hanging from the roof, and radiant colours illuminating the room with fantastical UV lighting over the stage. Booths to chill-out in with buddies, play pool, or jam to the jazzy swinging beats! The dance floor was packed with a cheerful mood as resident DJ Mike Lesar dominated the decks at 23h30 for a 2hr set!

Teknotribe hosted the main floor inside, where party goers really got loose and broke it down to the pulsating power-driving techno played by the resident DJ’s. Nick Grater, known as the powerhouse of the techno industry in SA, definitely marked his authority as he closed the floor with his hard driving techno style and remarkable presence behind the decks. What a treat to end the night off with a bang! This dance floor was really having it.

The turnout to this party was incredible! The unlimited energy and enthusiasm of the DJ’s and crowd was extraordinary - an off-the-scale underground experience. There was easy access to each floor, striking decor, and plenty well stocked bars to accommodate all. This party was definitely one for the books!

A special thanks to this event’s hosts:
Michael Lesar (Let’s Swing it; Shareholder at MiHouse)
Paulo Alves (Owner/Managing director at MiHouse)
Nick Grater (Teknotribe)

Recently, DJs like Pete Tong, Sasha and Carl Cox have united against proposed oil drilling of the coast of Ibiza. Using their star power, they've helped push this worthy message across social media, as well as signed the petition against it.

Alianza Mar Blava is the campaign group urging authorities to issue a Negative Environmental Impact certificate to stop the drilling. There, anyone who can will be able to sign a last minute petition before all signatures are presented to the government.

If you can't make it to the fundraiser, you can still sign an online petition via Change.org here. It doesn't have any legal bearing, unfortunately, but it still helps indicate the public's will against the drilling. To download the offical form in English, Spanish or German, head here. Please note that it must be printed off 3 times, and that although you can read the form in English and German in order to understand the forms, you must print and sign the Spanish version. Via Ibiza Spotlight: You sign each copy, then send it, along with a photocopy of your passport to: WORLDFAMILYIBIZA, APDO 160, 07810 SANT JOAN, IBIZA, ESPAÑA. This needs to be sent by Friday, Jan 31st at the latest to be included in the final count.

Let's face it, if oil comes to Ibiza and a natural disaster were to strike spilling crude oil out into the beautiful crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean we all know and love, we can kiss Ibiza goodbye for good. So do whatever you can! Share, sign, anything.

Pulse Radio Pit Stop: Voiski

A member of the Parisian underground techno scene, Voiski is heading to New York for the first time to play at Sheik ‘n’ Beik’s 6th Anniversary party at The Panther Room this Sunday. He co-runs two labels - Silicate Musique with Griffin and DEMENT3D with Heartbeat and Francois K. – and is one-half of duo Kartei. We had a chance to catch up with Voiski ahead of the gig to chat about a recent memorable show in his home city of Paris, what we can expect from his set at the New York party, what he plans to do when he visits the Big Apple, and what he has in store for the future. Be sure to get your tickets to the show this weekend on Pulse Radio!

You kicked off the New Year with some tour dates around France. What were some of the highlights? Last week in Paris at La Machine was one of the best parties I've done so far in my life. Sonotown took a risky gamble inviting five live acts in one night with some of the new french techno scene's best artists. Dead Rec Heads and Vauban (DSCRD) are doing the most innovative electronic music here. Low Jack is releasing an amazing LP on L.I.E.S. and did a mind-blowing set. Zadig hitting the floor with his 909 at 140 BPM was absolutely amazing, and we were playing live together for the first time with Svengalisghosts as a new violent electronic group called Tropical Agitation. A huge happy crowd came in from the beginning and stayed until the end. It was really nice to see that happening in Paris, and the perfect way to start this New Year together.

You’ll be playing live at Sheik ‘n’ Beik’s sixth anniversary party. What can guests look forward to from your set? Heavy drum set on blurry repetitive melodics - that's what it's all about. I'm not planning everything, leaving space for the unknown and improvisation.

What are some of the things you are most excited to do in New York other than playing at the party? It is my first time in the US so I'm just very excited about everything. I want to discover the city, meet some people from the New York scene, see the Nets play at Barclays with my friend Willie Burns, and eat the weirdest food - the full American experience!

You’ll be releasing an EP on Sheik ‘n’ Beik’s label. How did this come about? How did your relationship with them begin? I met Julio from Sheik 'n' Beik in Paris last year as he was about to launch the label. We got along very well and he asked me if I was up to do record with him. He picked up four weird tracks that sound like sad techno music for depressed dance floors. I named it the 'Spotlight Diktat' EP in reference to this feeling of having to make people dance while you are really not into it - a kind of DJ melancholia.

What else can we expect from you in 2014? A lot of new music coming out on little French and Dutch labels, maybe some more work with L.I.E.S. in the summer, and a lot of live shows farther from my home town starting with the US and hopefully Asia in April and May.

Yolanda Be Cool's wickedly dirty, sleazy retake on Ace Of Bace's '90s hit "All That She Wants" featuring Syf and Fritz Helder from Azari & III dropped on Dim Mak this Wednesday. Seth Troxler: "Everyone Plays The Same Shit"

Seth Troxler is well known for being somewhat of a jester, a funnyman if you will, who likes to take the piss in an industry that can often disappear up its own ass. Though as much as he enjoys fucking about, the #1 DJ in the world in 2012 often has something insightful to say.

In a recent interview Troxler had with Music Radar, the Detroit-raised DJ voiced his concerns on the "gentrification" of dance music.

"Everyone plays the same shit - repetitive tech house stuff," Troxler confessed. "It just lacks the soul that music used to have. Also, when music is made on machines everything is so different - even the swing of the track, the whole vibe."

Seth also revealed that he yearns for turn of the century house music, and that even commercial house back in the early 00s was better than what hits the charts today.

"There used to be proper hits. I was listening to this track the other day; we were playing it in the car, Kings of Tomorrow - Finally. Even though it's like a guilty pleasure, when that track came out it was like 'this is a hit!' A couple of years ago the track of the summer was Party Non Stop, which was a joke; there was no content and I want that content to come back."

"Look what happened with hip-hop - they moved to Gangsta Rap for sales and it's like shit now. Hopefully the same thing doesn't happen to the new popularisation of electronic music."

At the risk of sounding old and jaded, we have to say we agree with you, Seth.

There's no rest for the wicked this summer if you live in Australia. We've already had a barrage of top electronic talent make their way down under so far and there are plenty making magic happen here at this very moment (Jamie xx and Four Tet dropping exclusives on Sydney's FBi, anyone?).

Well the hits just keep on coming people, with tours from Detroit Swindle, Belgium house connaisseur San Soda (who recorded a wicked podcast for us a couple years back) and producer of the moment MK, and electronic pop crooner Baths all making their way to the country this February and March.
