Infinity Ink has posted on their Facebook fan page wall just a few hours ago today a statement about Flo Rida sampling their track "Infinity." It seems that the sampling was not illegal as we may have suspected, but even allowed by the duo. This was in an effort to prevent Flo Rida from simply recreating the bassline without any credit to them. Infinity Ink also explains that the song, which has many versions living online, has "found a life of its own" and they're happy to let it grow creatively. Here's exactly what they had to say:
"Bit of controversy. Yes, that's our bassline on Flo Rida's new single. To anyone upset about it been sampled then we apologise. Given the choice between Flo Rida using our original bassline or Flo Rida making an almost exact copy of it, we gave permission for it to be sampled. There are countless versions of 'Infinity' on the internet. From EDM, dubstep and deep house mixes to chipmunk versions and even acoustic covers, we've kept them all up there. 'Infinity' has found a life of its own and we're touched by everyone's love of the original..."
The statement was accompanied by a Youtube link of a girl named Kate Richardson doing a cover of the track.
So far the response has generated over thirty comments underneath the post, with reactions ranging from 'sell-outs' to 'gotta make a living.' On Twitter, the initial outrage of Flo Rida sampling the track continues, but news of the fan page post has not yet spread. Here are some of the Facebook reactions:
