Burning Man Festival - the creative and arts based festival situiated in the Nevada desert - has announced that it shall be expanding size after being granted a recreation permit from federal land managers to hold more people.

Now able to grow in capacity to be able to hold 68,000 attendees, growing from some 56,000 attendees last year - a rise of around 20%. However, this move to embrace the off beat festival comes with a hefty set of conditions, including tighter public safety, resource management and keeping the area clean.

"Our priorities in managing this permit continue to be the protection and conservation of natural and cultural resources, as well as the safety for all participants and staffs," government spokesman Seidlitz said. "I feel confident the permit addresses these priorities." The Burning Man Festival originally began in Baker Beach, San Francisco, and attracted 80 people in 1990. The crowd was capped at 50,000 under a five-year permit that expired in 2010.

Burning Man takes place between August 26th - September 2nd.
