Not too long ago in South Africa we had Richie Hawtin, Skrillex and Luciano with their knowledge of Electronic Dance Music and the industry to boost the initiative called Bridges for Music. The initiative is to empower, or at the very least show people that music can be used as a tool of empowerment in disadvantaged communities.

We ran a piece on Bridges for Music shortly after the workshops took place over a two month period in the townships of Soweto (Johannesburg) and Langa (Cape Town). The article basically went into more detail about Bridges for Music and that it’s a non-profit organisation supporting responsible development of electronic music in emerging areas.

It was planned that after the workshops Richie Hawtin, Skrillex and Luciano were to take their experiences of the two months and chat about it with director Valentino Barrioseta at Sonar+D. They ran a screening of the workshops and spoke about the future plans of Bridges For Music.

South African names Duncan Ringrose (sshadowworkss), Trenton Birch (BlackMango) Sir Vincent (Jumpstart), Glenn Van Loggerenberg (Dontlookdown) and Eldon van Aswegen are the guys building the future of the organization but couldn’t make it to the Sonar+D conference unfortunately. Follow the link to the previous article of Bridges For Music to get a further info on the project.

"Nothing like a nice relaxing around Sonar by Day to take in all the new technologies, talk about our Bridges for Music project, a few quick interviews and meeting lots of friends, fans and supporters. I love SONAR week! "
