At least there's one person in the world who has a fun day job in between making dirty techno basslines, and he is Jonni Darkko, an American porn director. In the adult film industry for fourteen years, he is a producer in more ways than one. On May 27th, Jonni's techno track "Close" was released on Richie Hawtin's Minus label and was just featured on the minMAX compilation as well. The track is comprised of dark, driving chords that pulsate and are accompanied by industrial sounds and air pads. It reminds of futuristic factory settings and it is no wonder that Richie Hawtin dropped it at the closing party of his ENTER. show in Ibiza.
Music production is not a one-off for Jonni however, as he also creates the music for the porno he produces. In an interview with XBIZ he is quoted, "Making music is such a cathartic release of everything, sitting down and doing your own thing, making your own grooves." On coming to Ibiza to experience his track live at ENTER., Jonni said, "To have it play for 6,000 or 7,000 kids screaming and jumping up and down, it’s much grander than anything you’re used to. It was so cool to see that action take place."
Jonni has been nominated for five Adult Video News Awards and one XBIZ Award for his work "Angels of Debauchery" and "Suck it Dry." After working for Evil Angel, he began his own company, Darkko Productions, which led to his nominations. Before working in the adult film industry, Jonni worked as a professional photographer in Chicago, shooting fashion.
