We first chatted with EDM up and comer and former race car driver MAKJ back in April, and since then things haven't slowed down for the American jock since then. He's continued a whirlwind tour schedule that's seen him play clubs and festivals around the globe - as well as a house party - seen his first iTunes chart hit, and now steps up for Pulse.177. Last time we talked to you, your collaboration with Bassjackers, 'DERP,' was just about to be released. How has the reception to the track been? Amazing! My first top 20 on iTunes and it broke the Billboard charts in the US as I’m writing this!!!
What else have you been up to since we talked to you last? A lot of touring, writing, and touring. Did I say touring? [Laughs]
By the look of your Facebook, you played a house party recently? How did that come about? Well I always try to find the time to visit my parents in my hometown San Luis Obispo. I was in the middle of eating dinner with my parents and I get a call from my manager asking me if i would like to make a special appearance at a frat house I use to DJ back when i was attending college. I said yes and the rest was a blurring mess [laughs].
You also did a Reddit AMA. Are you a Redditor? Actually no I wasn’t, but since I did the AMA I have been on the site at least 4-5 times a day. Got me hooked.
Would you encourage more artists to reach out that way? Yes. definitely. Probably one the best social media platforms out right now!
Finally, what's next on your horizon? More MAKJ Music! I’ve been writing a lot, collaborating a lot, and touring a lot. I'm not going away anytime soon.
