Family members of the late DJ Rashad, who unexpectedly passed away last weekend, have confirmed that the footwork/juke pioneer’s death was caused by complications arising from a blood clot in his leg. UK label Hyperdub relayed the news to the Guardian.
Initial reports stated that the Chicago police suspected a drug overdose as the cause of death based on drug paraphernalia that was found near his body, but this was related to marijuana and not hard drugs.
DJ Rashad’s cousin reports that the coroner determined that a blood clot in his leg led to his death. Apparenlty, DJ Rashad complained about an ache in his leg but no one considered the possibility that it would be life-threatening given his young age of 34.
DJ Rashad's latest album 'Double Cup' was ranked eigth in Rolling Stone's best dance albums of 2013 and was considered one of the top 30 dance albums by the Guardian in the same year.
