Furniture behemoth IKEA has announced it is discontinuing the popular Expedit shelving line, which as vinyl nutters will be well aware, is the best way to house one's record collection.
So far the news has only been announced in the company's home city of Germany, however presumably they will be extending the discontinuation abroad at some stage. It's a puzzling move given the massive resurgence in vinyl sales over the past few years (and IKEA's ad campaign from last year which used the Expedit line to show its support for vinyl collectors - watch below), however the company has also unveiled a substitute shelving model called ‘Kallax,' which looks pretty similar.
Despite the Kallax substitute, it seems that the German vinyl community are still pretty upset about the discontinuation of the Expedit line and have launched a facebook page in an attempt to save the shelf from its sad fate (bless their cotton socks).
