News broke yesterday that American electronic music conglomerate SFX Entertainment has been using legal loopholes to try to invalidate Electric Forest’s contracts with its festival grounds. Last year, SFX unsuccessfully attempted to acquire Electric Forest organizer, Insomniac Events, later trying to buy the festival’s other promoter, Madison House Presents. Madison House refused and eventually was sold to SFX competitor AEG.
In a last ditch effort, SFX is seeking the purchase of the Double JJ Ranch, the site where the Rothbury, Michigan festival is held each year, in an attempt to invalidate the existing contracts festival organizers have with the owner of the property.
With over 21,000 tickets already sold for Electric Forest 2014, festival goers became concerned after hearing news of the litigation. Electric Forest is assuring guests that the festival will go on as planned and that they shouldn’t worry about the rumors.
