The authors behind the now infamous 'DJ Rules' list that set the DJ community abuzz last week finally broke their silence on the matter. Here's what they had to say.
The duo behind the list are actually AFTER residents Alex Clark and DJ/production partner Oscar Molina, who make up the duo Spacebyrdz, along with AFTER promoter and friend to the duo, Thom Svast. Upon leaving their old residency at Artisan due to the venue's decision to take the music in a more commercial direction, things with AFTER clicked into place. That's when they decided this party needed a new set of rules to separate it from the standard Vegas party.
"We’re just basically saying that we’re not playing what these casino clubs are doing, because everything on this list is what the casino clubs are either doing or playing. They’ll have premixed sets; we don’t do that. The DJs are producing a type of sound that we’re not trying to do," Clark said in an interview.
Though Clark said most of the feedback from DJs has been positive so far (with Sasha going so far as to re-Tweet the list), with even Kaskade joking around about not making the cut.

Clark said there has been backlash from artists like A-Track, but so far the bump in attendance the night has recieved from all the publicity, which he believes helps expose more Vegas club goers to the deeper shades of electronic music, is worth it.
"There’s always been an underground scene. It’s just very small here and it didn’t have a big draw, but now we finally have a platform and a location that’s nostalgic for the parties that they used to have, so a lot of people are interested."
Maybe there is hope for lovers of the underground in the EDM capital of the world, after all.
