It’s Monday, two days after the madness that was the Joburg leg of Olmeca Tequila's Mad Decent Block Party. My voice is gone, I’m bruised and battered and I cannot wipe this stupid smile off my face. This is because I was a part of absolute carnage; beastly raucous that took place on an innocent, unsuspecting Saturday afternoon. Mad? Yes. Decent? Hardly.

MDBP (Mad Decent Block Party) is by far the sickest jol (jol: Epic party, if you’re wondering what on earth that means) to hit the streets of the city in years. Set in the open Mary F Square in the heart of Jozi, Olmeca Tequila and Seed Experiences brought a proper hard, mind-blowing event. I arrived as the sun was setting, settled in to some frozen margheritas and banter with the party’s elite, all the while with the bass booming as if there was no-tomorrow. It was time to leave my civilised please-and-thank-yous and get dirty. Big time.

The crowd knew exactly why they were all there; to have-it! There were people in stilts, ladies fully dressed up like Major Lazer and bums ready to shake. Incredible vibes all the way! Das Kapital was my introduction to this boisterous affair, Oh! Did he bring it! With the exception of (some) security staff, err’body was boppin’ and bumpin’ as he smashed us into the evening. The sound was insane, with each beat booming into the very fibres of my bones as the bass shook us to insanity.
And then there was Sibot. This home-brewed legend boasted the best of his incredible talent, hands a-fiddling on his gear and getting involved with the crowd, feeding those animals sending them into a frenzy. It was unbelievable! Sibot & Toyota had their energised audience lose their minds, and their shirts, and time just flew as Flosstrodamus and then Dillon Francis dirtied it up, and soon enough it was time for the headliner for the event, Major Lazer.
These guys! Wowzers! I struggle to find words to describe the organised chaos. The crowd just went wild, and control was a thing of the past as they brought out our inner twerker (I learned that, like it or not, we all have one) and that, for me, was Game Over. The Major owned us all, we had no choice but to get wild, and we all flipping loved it!
All in all, the venue had beefed up security so there were minimal incidents, everybody was friendly and loose, and the production was on point. The lighting, sound and boozeworks were put together with class, and I’m not sure how I will ever be able to enjoy any other party after an outrageous, barbaric occasion that was put together. Big ups to Seed Experiences and Olmeca Tequila, you guys owned it, and I cannot wait until the next one. To view the photo album of the event chck out Pulse Radio's photo album below:
