Mad Decent Block Party – The Aftermath

Olmeca Tequila and Mad Decent blocked off the city streets in Joburg and Cape Town for one day each this last weekend as thousands of party goers lost their minds to sounds of international acts Major Lazer, Dillon Francis and Flosstradamus, along with top quality local DJs.

It was a truly wild show of professional twerking, dancing, crowd-surfing, C02 cannons and of course, Diplo’s human hamster ball! Party goers dressed up, brought water guns and inflatable toys and twerked and danced their way through the day and night.

Dillon Francis got the crowd going with his unique brand of “reggae tone meets Dutch House”, DJ duo Flosstradamus brought their irresistible sense of fun to their banging set, while American Moombahton artist Paul Devro and local DJ / producers Das Kapital and Sibot & Toyota got the crowd raving. Jozi revelers danced to Liver and the king of drum n bass Niskerone while Cape Town experienced the beats of kwaito duo Ruffest and bass and hip hop DJ White Nite. But the climax of the shows was certainly headliner Major Lazer, whose show was a fully-fledged production in itself and something one can only really understand if they were there to experience its epic scope!

The Mad Decent Block Party concept was started by superstar DJ and producer Wesley Pentz (aka Diplo) in Philadelphia in 2008 with one small street party for a couple of hundred people. Since then the parties have spread to 13 cities and this was the first time Mad Decent Block Parties took place outside of North America. Joburg and Cape Town couldn’t have been better locations to choose and South Africans are already asking when the next Mad Decent Block Party will be.

The cherry on top was the official after party at Fiction Nightclub in Long Street, Cape Town where Diplo played to an intimate crowd of post-block party revellers. Seed Experiences maintained its reputation for throwing the best parties in the country, and, together with Olmeca Tequila, were proud to bring South Africa another fantastic event.
