Eclectic Method, aka Jonny Wilson, is known for his projects involving spliced clips of TV and film set to dance and hip-hop beats that he remixes and mixes together on the fly. Now, he's turned his attention towards the history of sampling in this 3-minute video, which you can watch here.

Starting off with the Mellotron, or the "original sampler" made famous by the Beatles, who used it for the intro of "Strawberry Fields" (watch Paul McCartney run through that process here), the video uses the art of sampling to tell the story of the most famous sample, the Amen Break, heading right thorough the 60′s, then on to break-heavy classics that became the underpinnings of hip-hop during the 80′s and 90′s. Running through several of the most iconic beats, breaks and drum fills, the video illustrates the powerful presence of certain sounds and rhythms that have inspired songs ranging from hip-hop, drum 'n bass, break-beats, big beat, pop and other genres.

Perhaps his most watch project, Eclectic Method also spliced together music, footage and dialogue from many of Quinten Tarantino's films (who himself is highly notorious for "sampling" or borrowing scenes from many old films, books and graphic novels for his movies) in the project above, which again, is performed live.
