It’s been a good run for Chukkas, 2.5 years, which indeed felt a hell of a lot longer thinking back on all the memories that were made on that small, but adequate dancefloor. The success of the club among other points has to be lent in the direction of the music policy that they had maintained. It was a strict 4/4 House and Techno formula set in place by their Friday nights known as ‘Substance’ that they had resolved to after a few attempts at throwing Rock/Indie and 80’s nights.
August of 2011 they opened their doors, welcoming anyone that was looking for a low-key, way-less pretentious type party at a venue with just enough dancefloor to have yourself a fantastic night. Not to mention the back-area where one would randomly meet with other Chukka locals and engage in ‘who-knows’ type antics having some of the most memorable nights to date. If walls could talk…
With the Saturday nights at Chukka being taken over by several conceptual events, with a fair amount of promoters having their hand in the proverbial Chukka pie, some great international acts graced the decks, to name a few, The Wildkats, Matt Fear, Alex Smoke, Siopis, Ali B, JonJon and Sammy Dee, with the list going on that played alongside some of SA’s top-talents on the hardware.
Now, the time has come for the institute to close its doors. Aptly named, The Final Lap, they say they have chosen a line-up that best represents the memorable and loyal conceptual nights over the past 2.5 years, rest assured this is going to be a special night. From sunset to sun-up, the last party at Chukkas will be going down on Friday, this Friday the 24th of January from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. with a R40 cover charge.
