Sydney's newest floating harbour bar The Aqua Club was shut down by Police over the weekend, just minutes before kicking off its launch party.

According to the Daily Telegraph, hundreds of VIP guests were left stranded on Double Bay wharf on Sunday when the event was cancelled just minutes prior to kick off, after a water slide set up on the luxury barge "drew the ire of officials patrolling the Harbour." Owner Troy Douglas was also fined 10,000 for operating without a liquor licence.

The ill-fated party, dubbed 'The Island Of Forbidden Love,' was part of the Sol Summer of Six, a series of parties hosted by the Mexican beer company, and billed to have a live set from Aussie band Jagwar Ma.

Organisers were forced to arrange last minute maxi-taxis to transport angry attendees to Kings Cross, where a bar tab was set up at Backroom. The Telegraph also reports that members of The Aqua Club's rival venue, The Island, turned up on a boat to witness the debacle.

"Are you guys waiting for a ferry?" they asked.

It's not the first spot of bad luck for The Aqua Club. The company hosted a boat party on NYD which sank, with attendees having to be rescued.
