Eric Prydz, the Grammy nominated house producer and DJ, is heading to Las Vegas for his first ever residency in the US. The Swedish producer is one of the original breed of jocks to put that country on the dance music map, along with best friends in the Swedish House Mafia. A versatile artist, he has made hits with anthemic hands-in-the-air house as Eric Prydz, stripped back, dark European techno as Cirez D, and melodic, progressive house as Pryda.
In this teaser film for the new party, called "Black Dice," at XS nightclub in the Wynn (beginning March), Prydz talks about his vision for the night. "Vegas is all about glamour and gold," he says, "we want to change things around a bit. Darken things up. I think the sound of the music I produce and play is something that Las Vegas hasn't heard yet."
In 2012 Eric Prydz came back to America for his first US tour in five years, headlining the amphitheater filling IDENTITY tour. At the same time he started his EPIC Radio podcast, and released the album, ‘Eric Prydz presents Pryda’, a collection of key productions under his Pryda guise that many lauded for bridging the gap between commercial and underground dance music. Prydz returned to the US in November for two sold-out Thanksgiving shows at Roseland Ballroom, and capped the year off with a Grammy nomination for his remix of M83’s ‘Midnight City’.
From the official press release:
"As EDM fervor has swept America, many have lost sight of what the role of a DJ in clubland is all about, settling for pre-prepared playlists of what has become top 40 music. ‘Black Dice’ offers a new paradigm for Las Vegas, paired back production with black-out lighting, fog machines and lasers, musical spontaneity beyond sure-fire club hits; it’s about immersion, and surrendering oneself to a DJs journey."
It seems like Vegas is ready to broaden its musical horizons, while maintaining the showmanship that makes it such a popular party destination. The first party will be held at Surrender Nightclub on Feb 9th, followed by XS on March 8th.
