Head over to TBA Brooklyn this weekend and catch Canadian DJ and producer, Akufen, on Friday and Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts on Saturday.

Akufen’s sound is an experimental and technological take on electronic music. In 2002, he released My Way, introducing his concept of “microsampling”, which involves him using short clips of samples randomly selected off FM radio broadcasts as a key musical element. His boutique label, Musique Risquée, continues to grow with new and respected artists like Atom TM, The Rip Off Artist, Philippe Cam, The Mole and Trendsetter & the Followers. He has remixed the works of Richie Hawtin, Yello and Massive Attack, among others. Give his Fabric 17 mix (Fabric, 2004) a listen to get an idea of what to expect on this fine Friday evening.

Head back to TBA on Saturday night for an energetic and soulful set from Guillaume Coutu-Dumont (Circus Company, Musique Risquée). This Montreal based artist describes his sound as “imbued with the sultry allure of jazz, the unquestioned groove of house, and the propulsion of techno.” Influenced by the sounds of Berlin as well as the French underground house scene, he performs regularly in his hometown and around the world. His solo project, Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts is a blend of funk, house techno, gospel, swing and afro-beat. His solo productions are available on MUTEK_rec, Musique Risquée, Hartchef Discos, Floppy Funk, OSLO, Raum Musik and on French labels Circus Company and Karat.
