It’s that time of year again! In the midst of holiday season is Art Basel, when the city of Miami is filled with the best and the brightest artists who come to town to showcase their work. Spend your days exploring the design district and art exhibits and your nights out on the town. Check out our party picks:
Get your Wednesday night fill with Touch of Class Records at The Electric Pickle for their special Art Basel Showcase. Celebrating the upcoming third release of new artist Pattern Drama, TOC introduces disCern, the newly signed project from Jonny Cruz and Silky, alongside label founders Michael Tello and Ray Zuniga (aka Signal Flow). Head downstairs to catch the Pickle residents holding down the fort in true form and prepare yourself for a night of great music, friends, dancing and loads of shenanigans, of course.
Our friends at LINK & Miami Rebels have an exciting weekend planned at venues all over the city featuring an all-star roster of DJs and producers. Thursdays at Treehouse are never a night to miss and this week is no exception. Catch German legend Ben Klock and Canadian trio, My Favorite Robot at this South Beach spot. Ben Klock is the hard-hitting techno producer and founder of the Klockworks imprint. The Berlin-born producer has been a monthly resident at the city’s legendary Berghain nightclub since 2004. His remixes for artists such as Kerri Chandler, Martyn and Depeche Mode along with his Berghain mix have helped to solidify his name and style as a staple in the global techno scene.
Jared Simms, James Teej and Voytek Korab formed My Favorite Robot in Montreal in 2002. Originally an act, the trio became a label in 2008 and is part of the wave of Canadian talent that emerged a few years ago, including their friends Art Department from No.19 Music. The past few years have been big for MFR, with releases on Visionquest, Life & Death, Crosstown Rebels and Sasha’s Last Night On Earth imprint, they have made a strong mark on the music industry. Check out their most recent album, Atomic Age, which was released on No.19 in September.
The weekend kicks off on Friday at Story with Richie Hawtin and at Treehouse for a merger of great minds with Get Physical <3 Cityfox. Richie Hawtin is at it again with his legendary Basel set. Last year it was at LIV and this year it is at Story. The Detroit techno legend, who also produces under the moniker Plastikman, has been making waves in the electronic music community for decades. His ENTER. parties are celebrated worldwide, most notably in Ibiza where they are a weekly fixture at Space during the summer season. Former Plus 8 label boss and current Minus imprint master, Richie is never one to disappoint and Story is the perfect venue to host his technologically mastered sets.
Gear up for another big night at Treehouse! Two of the industry’s most recognizable labels are pairing up on Friday to bring you an evening of sonic perfection. Get Physical and Cityfox bring M.A.N.D.E.A.R. (M.A.N.D.Y. b2b Matthew Dear), Dinamo Azari (Azari & III), Bob Moses (live), Markus Linder and Gregorythme together for a special Art Basel performance.
M.A.N.D.Y. is the Berlin-birthed duo comprised of childhood friends Phillip Jung and Patrick Bodmer. In 2002, they joined forces with their friends Booka Shade and DJ T and formed Get Physical Records. They are playing a very special b2b set with Matthew Dear. Matthew co-founded the Ghostly International label in 1999 and its dancefloor offshoot, Spectral Sound, one year later. Matthew is a rare bread of DJ, well-respected and not bound to one specific genre. His wild, slightly weird, rhythm-driven songs and his experimental nature will definitely create the perfect vibe combined with M.A.N.D.Y.’s sound.
Saturday is host to Guy Gerber’s celebrated Supplement Facts event. You have two opportunities to attend the Supplement Facts party, so there’s no excuse to miss this must-do event. The day party is at the Delano Hotel from 7:00pm – midnight and features Guy along with his friend and Visionquest co-founder, Ryan Crosson. The night event is at Treehouse and Matthew Dear, Bill Patrick and Mao Fonnegra will accompany Guy.
If you’re in the mood for some serious techno, head over to Story for Music On with Marco Carola and fellow Italian, Leon. Marco’s legendary Music On party has been making waves across the globe since its launch in Miami in 2011. After a hugely successful summer residency in Ibiza at Amnesia, Music On began its American residencies at Marquee on Fridays and Story on Saturdays. This week marks the seventh week of this monumental event. Be sure to get there early because this party will be packed before you know it.
If you’re still going strong after this massive weekend, head over to Treehouse on Sunday and catch Flying Circus on its December tour! We spotlighted this epic tour last week and this is the second stop. Started by Anthony Middleton and Luca Saporito, aka Audiofly, in 2006, Flying Circus has become a festive phenomenon. The party had a very successful residency at Sankeys Ibiza this summer and has hit up cities like Russia, Berlin, Peru, Detroit and Ukraine. The party will also support a cause close to Anthony and Luca’s heart, Save Japan Dolphins. To learn more check out our preview here. Catch Audiofly, Ali (of Tiefschwarz), George Fitzgerald, Lee Curtiss and Sonja Moonear at this monster FC session. We can’t think of a better way to wrap up your weekend!
