Yestterday Pulse posted a news article from the ABC which claimed that the 2013 Rainbow Serpent Festival had been refused a permit to operate due to operate, citing inadequate emergency management standards as the reason, and that the festival would not be going ahead.
Today the organisers have been in contact with Pulse issuing a press release that this is not the case, stating they have submitted a new application for their Places of Public Entertainment (POPE) permit this morning and are confident of meeting council requirements for the Australia Day weekend event to go ahead.
“After a successful and productive meeting with council yesterday we are submitting a new application this morning,” said festival organiser Tim Harvey.
“Council are very supportive of the event going ahead and have offered to fast track the application. At this stage we are hopeful the event will go ahead as planned.”
Just under 9000 people have signed a petition in under 24 hours on the GoPetition website to ‘save Rainbow Serpent Festival.’
Organisers are hoping to have an official response by the end of today. Stay tuned.
