iOS7 is the result of a year of Apple reinventing and refining its software. While there are many new features available after updating to iOS7, it shouldn’t be too difficult for users to become accustomed to it because functionality remains largely the same; most of the updates are cosmetic and easy to get used to. Below, we’ve chosen some of our favorite updates in the new software.

New Features

Control Center: You can activate Control Center by swiping upwards from bottom of the screen. Control Center is a set of options to change commonly used settings such as airplane mode, brightness, and Bluetooth, and includes shortcuts to a flashlight, timer, calculator, and camera. Here, you can also pause or play music, change the song, and control volume.

Air Drop: This new feature, available only on an iPhone 5, fifth generation iPod Touch, fourth generation iPad, and iPad mini, allows you to share items such as photos, videos, contacts, and web pages through Wi-Fi. You can activate Air Drop in Control Center and access it with the Share button.

Multitasking: Apple has changed the way its devices will multitask. Instead of temporarily suspending apps that aren’t currently in use, the software will learn the habits of users and update apps before they are opened in a way that conserves battery life. Apps that are more often used will be given more freedom to update when they like. Users can also manually decide which apps are allowed to update on their own.
