I wasn’t quite sure why, but when I left to go to Space just a little bit earlier than normal last night, I had a feeling it might be a wise decision. After walking into the Discoteca and adjusting my eyes several times, I realized the man himself was in fact warming things up – the first unexpected treat of the night.
Like DC-10 the night before, the king of Space was getting the fire stoked with plenty of relaxed, funky house grooves, finishing with Chiapet’s ‘Westworld’ (Skylark Remix), it’s unmistakable rhythm edging its way in to cheers galore before the track’s tantalizing bass line pushed the masses even further, Coxy echoing the tune out to infinity before Troxler took to the decks, beginning with slow and hypnotic beats.
Though his reputation for being one of dance music silliest characters, Troxler was not messing around for his Revolution debut, expertly building up with sexy funk, keeping the packed Discoteca bouncing right along, heading into darker tribal territory, edging the tempo ever higher with spaced-out yet upbeat grooves as Seth danced to the beat with his unmistakable DJ wiggle. By 2:30, Troxler was on full blast, ripping the crowd to shreds with a massive disco house remix of Kelly Charles’ classic anthem ‘You're No Good For Me’ before heading straight into dark, clunky techno before Moudaber, who kicked things off with creepy, murky, rolling techno. While Troxler did his thing in the Discoteca, Spain’s newest techno and tech house darling, Uner, was keeping it right in the sweet spot over in the Main Terrace.
Making huge waves as of late, Uner had us right where he wanted, locked right in synch with jumping house, expertly balancing between hip shaking grooves and laid back rhythms, warming up perfectly. Moving into chunkier territory mid way through his set, Uner slowly began picking up the pace, trickling out minimal melodies track after track before slamming into The Martinez Brothers’ remix of Green Velvet’s ‘Bigger Than Prince,’ blasting the room to bits. From there, Uner got his creep on with one of the season’s hottest tunes, 'Another Earth' by Tale Of Us, getting into the full swing of things, the Spanish jock pumping and jumping as hard as anyone, while funky drum fills brought the beat home.
Up next it was time for Saved Records boss Nic Fanciulli to take stage, but not before Mr. Cox came strutting into the booth, sending the room into a fit. The two traded punches with stripped back, sleazy tech house, throwing out a massive reggae-house tune before Nic tossed in the Joris Voorn edit of his brother’s massive anthem ‘The Tide,’ Carl by his side loving every minute of it, giving his friend massive respect as Nic laid it on thick with build after build, Coxy rejoicing along with the packed room. From there, the duo kept it moving right along with tracks like ‘Let Yourself Go’ by Todd Terry & Simone Vitullo Feat. Vjuan Allure, and the inspirational ‘I Am Somebody’ by Technasia, its twisted rhythms melting faces throughout the room as CO2 blasted everyone back into reality.
Over in the main room, Nicole Moudaber was ripping the pace up with techno so hard it was bulletproof, leaving many club goers shaking their head in disbelief at what monster beats the Queen was throwing down, and the final back-to-back of the night hadn’t even come. After a quick change of shirts, his new tee aptly reading ‘DUES PAID,’ Carl joined Nicole just after 4am, confetti blasting overhead as a sea of smartphones recorded all the action.
The duo kept things rolling along, dark as ever, with huge bangers like ‘Vertigo’ by Roberto Capuano, out on Nicole’s label home, Drumcode. It was big, it was relentless, and not a body in sight wanted it to end. By the time Nicole made her way off stage at around 5:30, the Space Discoteca was in a pure, devastating techno love fest, with no signs of slowing until well past the Ibiza sunrise. One can hardly believe there’s only one more Tuesday to go before Carl gives his final ‘Oh Yes, Oh Yes!’ at The Revolution. I know I won’t miss it.
