Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” is no stranger to controversy. After critics condemned the lyrics and music video for being misogynistic, the single, which is in its tenth week atop the Billboard Hot 100, is back in the spotlight because of its similarities with Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up” and Funkadelic's “Sexy Ways.” In response to the criticism, Robin Thicke along with Pharrell Williams, and T.I., who were both featured on the track, have decided to sue Gaye’s estate and Bridgeport Music over these claims.
Thicke, Williams, and T.I. expressed their hesitation about this decision, saying that they have “the utmost respect for and admiration of Marvin Gaye, Funkadelic and their musical legacies,” but they have to “reluctantly file this action in the face of multiple adverse claims from alleged successors in interest to those artists.”
