DJ magazine - the outlet that brings us their controversial Top 100 DJs poll every year - are feeling the heat over an image that was published in their December issue; a satirical 'ladies guide' to the CDJ-2000. Take a look below.
As inthemix points out, the image has unintentionally caused quite the furore across the internet, prompting DJ Mag to state that the image is completely out of context when viewed on its own and should be read in conjunction with the original article; a column called 'Rant 'N' Rave' written by an anonmymous female DJ which in fact points out the issue of sexism in the dance scene.
The controversy over the image is quite unfortunate given that DJ Mag's intention with the original article was to draw attention to sexism in the industry, not agree with it. Though as Chicago DJ and producer Dani Deahl has pointed out, why did they create it in the first place?
“There’s no doubt in my mind that DJ Mag meant this photo as a joke – it’s obviously meant as an extremely exaggerated caricature of a misogynist’s point of view. But my question is – why? Why fuel the fire with this ‘satirical’ illustration?”
