Jullian Gomes talks about latest project with Atjazz

Jullian Gomes is the young and very bright future of South African dance music. Having started out in his earlier years in a group called G Family, Jullian has crafted great success in his musical endeavours. He has now teamed up with Martin Atjazz to create a collaborative album entitled The Gift The Curse.

Our first insights as to what Jullian and Martin can do together came from their wildly successful track, Overshadowed which demolished charts and dance floors resulting in sell out vinyl sales and cult Youtube videos. The excitement is mounting as we all anticipate this new work of art.

You have gained critical acclaim of the last few years what would you attribute to your sturdy success? I would say it’s all about the Journey, I take it one emotion at the time, one song at the time, Just trying to make and play the music I believe in...

The industry is very intricate and had its ups and downs how do you cope with that and stay positive when things aren't going so well? I guess I always turn to music, It’s what i started with it’s what I’ll end with, It’s what gets me through.

You've worked with a lot of people on this album who would you like to work with in the future and could we ever see the return of G family? Haha. Who knows when there will be another G. Family Album... Yeah, I’ve been blessed to come across people that have the same energy as me when it comes to a creative aspect. Working with people always gives me that satisfaction but I sense I need to go on another road soon.

Both of you have had very humble beginnings in the music industry and are regarded as some of the greats in the industry at the moment, how did the concept of this album come about? Martin and I met through a Remix that G. Family did for Atjazz'' Love Someone'' Feat. Robert Owens. From there we just kept in touch became good friends. Then when I was playing in Barcelona at Sonar, Martin offered to fly me down to his studio in the UK and that’s how ''Overshadowed'' came about from that point we just had a good energy when it came to music and felt like we had more to say so we decided to write and Album.

The electronic music is fast paced and ever changing how would you say you keep up and stay relevant with the times? I think personally it’s all about being creative, I wake up in the morning asking ''what can I tell people today'', you don't say the same thing to someone everyday so why should music be like that, and it’s about growth it’s about expression.

Leading to the production of this album would you say that it is easier or harder to work alone or with someone else when producing, did you just gel or were there some hard times? Martin and I have a good energy in studio we have mutual respect for each other and we always meet each other half way and both confirm our inputs into the music we make together. Logistically it could be a little difficult as we on separate sides of the world but we always pull through and we always sacrifice for the greater purpose. Which is Music.

The South African market is booming at the moment, we've seen it grow exponentially in the last few years. As a South African how would you compare to the world? South Africa is home. This is where I’m always gonna be, my heart and soul is here. It’s always cool to experience different parts of the world and I try and take in as much as possible from each experience as possible. We always growing you never stop learning and our scene is always reshaping itself across the globe and not only in South Africa. The key is to keep it going and keep it strong pass it down from the next generation to the next so music can help future generations just like its helped us.

What birthed the concept of this album and led to you guys working together, had it been a long time coming? Wow! This album has been in the making for about a year and a half. Martin and myself really felt like we had something to say together and even given the obstacles that we were faced with we always stuck to the core of our purpose for this album.

You have collaborated with the likes of Osunlade and many other greats on this album tell us about those collaborations and what can listeners expect? We've featured Osunlade, Robert Owens, Wunmi, Zano, Clive Astin and John Agesilas. I’m Humbled to have worked with the artists that were involved on the Album, I’ve always looked up to them, Yeah sure I know them and we friends but when I think about the music they've put out there and how I was just kid with a dream, dreaming to collaborate with the likes of Osunlade and Robert Owens etc. It takes me back. I have so much respect for every artist that was involved on The Gift The Curse they amazing people and it was a pleasure working with them.

To you what is this album an expression, what are you trying to communicate with the album and for people to hear? The Gift The Curse has a mood of its own, its own story and theme. It’s not a typical House Music compilation or Album pushed at an angle of appealing to what is expected from the scene. Martin and myself have written and artist album for people that love House Music and Music in general. We see The Gift The Curse as being life's contradiction and how we get true the tribulations in our lives. At the end of it, our Gift always gets us through the Curse.

Is there a tour being planned if where can your fans catch you? Yeah, Most definitely. Atjazz & I will be touring the Album in South Africa from the 19th Sep till the 7 Oct. Then we'll do Europe later.

Watch The 7 Trippiest YouTube Videos Ever

The world of YouTube can be a strange place to visit. Millions upon millions of us upload videos daily, from the damn right weird to the inexplicably wonderful. There’s something on offer for every outlandish venture you wish to undertake; from talking dogs to hysterical sleeping babies. However, they don’t come much stranger than the one’s we’ve got here. Welcome to YoutTube’s seven trippiest videos, ever, as selected by sickchirpse.com - view them below and read our own personal thoughts on these eccentric ventures.

Don't Hug Me, Im Scared

First up we have a creativity guru notepad, brought to you by This Is It Collective. Entitled ‘Don’t Hug Me, I’m Scared’ this wonderfully weird video is a step by step guide on how to be creative. What starts out a rather sweet and almost educational video ends up plummeting into the world of surrealist horror. The video has racked up over 10,000,000 hits and is a parody of today’s childrens cartoons genre. This Is It Collective like to offer social commentaries and this is without a doubt their most successful. If you’re feeling a little on edge then we suggest pausing at around the two minute mark – things get a little too creative.

2AM

Now any video that involves a man dancing in a yellow suit at 2AM is bound to be made in a light hearted fashion, right? Well, maybe not. 2AM, created by Go For Broke Pictures, shows the more sinister side of early morning public dancing. 2AM has managed to attract over 1.5 million views in just two months and is well worth a watch. The next time you’re walking home from the rave alone and see a lonesome tap dancer, take caution from this video and run!

Orphic Oxtra: Skeletons Having Sex On A Tin Roof.

Yes you read it right and if the name wasn’t a big enough clue of the weirdness to come then just you wait until you press play. With not a single reference to the songs name in the actual video you would be forgiven if you can’t quite get your head around this one. In short: a leotard-dressed girl dances in a wildly 70’s fashion whilst flying through space and other locations around earth. Her overpowering grin and creepy stare are enough to keep you fixated to the screen throughout. Not one to watch if you have a funny disposition to bouts suggestive dancing and glassy stares.

Near

Our fourth selection is bordering on insanity. Basic animation, basic plot but my god is it effective.

Noel Fieldings Luxury Comedy - The Jelly Fox

This comes from a realm of weirdness you are familiar with. That world of brilliantly bizarre broadcasting brought to you by Noel Fielding and his overuse of narcotics. Luxury Comedy was actually broadcast on the UK’s Channel 4. Yes, the general masses were entrusted to cope with the unbearably odd mind of Noel Fielding. 23 minutes of unforgiving trippiness from Mr Fielding is enough to put anyone off of hallucinogens for life.

The Cat With Hands

The final video is probably not to be watched in the dark alone. Although for the desired effect this is exactly when you should watch it! “The Cat With Hands” brings to life a legend of a cat that wanted to be human. In achieving this goal it would steal body parts from its victims and then consume them. This video us somewhat a hidden gem with only just over 5000 views but it is arguably the most creative and best acted video from this list. Certainly not one for the faint hearted.

Xtrah Releases EP on Symmetry

$

0

The EP is kicked off with a collaboration with Codebreaker. The track is entitled Lost Time and wastes no time in building the beat and throwing you straight into the mix. The high end sounds are crisp and punchy whilst the deeper sub bass rolls around the speakers in effortless motion.

Although the track has many elements in terms of percussion, bass and vocals it makes every sound do the work needed to make a real Drum ‘n’ Bass anthem. Sweeping bass jumps from speaker to speaker whilst the tempo is consistent with barely any breakdown at all. A relentless track and a powerful opener to the EP.

Lost Time is followed up by a track featuring Break and DRS. Just from the artists involved it goes without saying Always New picks up where Lost Time left off. Many artists in the heavier side of Drum n Bass are giving their take on Hip Hop and this is going to be many people’s favourite from this release.

The track isn’t dominated by the DRS’s bars, he flows with the rhythm of the beat rather than overtaking the mix. His fast paced style contrasts with the bouncing slower-paced beat. Always New could so easily reach the heights of Dub Phizix’s Marka and is a step in the direction so many artists, like Noisia and The Upbeats, are taking.

It is rare for an EP to flow in a linear fashion but Xtrah has managed to do just that. Groove Shadow is possibly the epitome of using minimal amount of elements but creating a fully polished sound. The percussion keeps the beat bouncing almost setting you up for a soulful and uplifting drop for you only to be taken to the darkest of depths through the low frequency bass.

It is the lower frequencies that carry this track and it is a true masterclass in creating atmosphere without going over the top on darkness. If you’re a lover of the likes of Ulterior Motive or Optiv and BTK then you’re going to have this one on repeat for days.

We are then treated to something really rather special. Break’s remix of Cyrax. Just as you were gathering composure from the onslaught of bass you are thrown straight to the floor. This last one takes the original and gives it a completely new identity. It’s hard to describe just what Break does to create this monumental beast of a track, you’ll just have to wait for the drop.

All in all a complete success of an EP. There is a real art to making an EP flow from track to track like this does as four songs is a very short time period to do so. Somehow they guys at Symmetry have done just that and this is definitely one of the biggest EPs released this year. Do not hesitate in getting your copy and add something to your sets that will completely annihilate any ravers that step in its path.

Fresh: Damien Bridge AKA Dubboyy

Constructed out of melted sneaker material, tattoos and oversized watch parts, Damien Bridge is known affectionately by many names: Technoshrek and Uncle Kickflip being just two of them. But it wasn’t until he started playing electronic music that Dubboyy came to the fore.

Since then that name has become a regular feature on the Johannesburg after hours scene with Dubboyy featuring at venues and parties such as Toy-Toy, Truth and Fu-Cha. His influences are wide and varied, but he lists friends Digital Rockit, Killer Robot, Brad S, Phat Jack and the boys from Sound Sensible as artists who have had a major impact on his musical style and his life.

Regardless of where or what he’s playing however, Dubboyy loves a tune and he wants to make you skop. We caught up with Dubboyy and fired a few questions his way.

Where are you from originally and what were the kinds of things you grew up listening to? I am originally from Pietermaritzburg via Durban. I moved up to JHB 13 years ago. I didn’t really have parents that were interested in music, so I sort of had to find my own way.

Tell us about your first experience with electronic music. How did you get hooked? And what led to you becoming a DJ? When rave was big in the mid 90’s I started clubbing and was exposed to electronic music because I was trying out clubs and quickly realised that I didn’t enjoy the music that the student clubs were playing. Socially, I don’t know how, I always seemed to end up partying and meeting the DJ’s. One of the first people I met when I moved to JHB was Dogstarr from Digital Rockit. I was very fortunate that I kept good company socially and I suppose I became envious of the influence that my friends were having on the music scene. I wanted to make a difference in my own way, no matter how small.

Give us a little history on your background and DJ involvement with Juanne Odendaal. What did you take away from this partnership, if anything? Juanne is a very good DJ technically and he helped me make the transition from Ableton to Traktor. He helped me to refine whatever beginner skills I had into something that remotely resembled a DJ. I will always be grateful to him and respect him as he taught me a professional side of DJ’ing that I still value and use. Besides, I spent many hours dancing on a certain rooftop in the CBD in my early years in JHB listening to his music. I have always and will always respect him as a DJ and all round good mate.

What in your opinion are the criteria that distinguish an average DJ from an outstanding one? Preparation, musical education, being on time, choosing your gigs, respecting the dancefloor. Very importantly, music must always win!

Name your top 3 favourite international DJs or producers. Was a specific mix or track production the catalyst to this Top 3 status? If so what and what about it moved you. I listen to plenty of music and draw many influences from many different artists and producers. I enjoy many different types of genres, so I don’t think I could narrow it down like that. Every week my favourites change.

Every DJ should be armed with some sure-fire weapons he knows he can depend on to rock any party, anywhere. Without divulging your secrets, name 5 such tracks and tell us why they have a permanent place in your boxI am going to politely decline answering that. I believe that track selection is more important than any technical skill. I do believe that with the amount of time some DJ’s spend on sourcing tracks, they have the right to keep them a secret. Sorry guys, I hope you understand.

Lastly, describe the music you play to a newbie who has never had the privilege of hearing you mix. And a quick overview about the mix you’ve given usThe music I play is music that I would always dance to. I don’t believe in playing music that wouldn’t get me excited on the dancefloor. I like to think that the music I play has a certain level of intelligence and energy about it. The mix was recorded on a special night at the establishment that has become Toy-Toy. It was special because the night is run by my good buddies at Digital Rockit and Sound Sensible and it was my debut playing at Toy-Toy. I also opened for a DJ (Hydro) that I have the utmost respect for. I know his style so decided I wanted to set him up really nicely. I hope I did.

Rocking The Daisies: Warren Bokwe and Pierre Estienne Confirmed For The Mainstay Beach Bar Line-Up

From the 3rd to the 6th of October 2013, the Mainstay Beach Bar gets tropical and brings the heat to the white sands of the Daisies. The line-up selected is of exquisite design and adding to the magic this year is Warren Bokwe and Pierre Estienne.

Catching the wave of Electronic music in the late 90's, followed by ten years of playing quality music and a record collection that many would be amazed at, you can expect Pierre Estienne to switch it up with some emotional House sounds and the occasional venture into Tech. Getting sun-drenched individuals to groove comes naturally to this selekta.

If you saw Warren Bokwe grooving away on the dancefloor, you'd think he was from outer space - his interaction with music suggests just that, and nothing changes when he's on the other side of the decks. Really looking forward to this duo on the weekend!!

Baboom! Megaupload's Kim Dotcom Reveals New service

Kim Dotcom reveals new music service that he promises is fair for everyone involved.

The service is to be called Baboom and comes in the same year that he has resigned as Director of Mega. The service is expected to have an ad free version but the main revnue stream for artists is through advertising. This free music site will be launched in the coming months and could prove to be a major game changer if it is proven a hit. Dotcom’s first company Megaupload was shut down by the FBI for reportedly costing the music and film industries half a billion dollars. Kim is also reportedly at logger heads with various others, including the city of Hong Kong, who he's threatened to sue after they raided his offices based in the city 'unlawfully'.

This means Dotcom will have to tread carefully and make sure he is not just creating another site that will lead to artists and labels losing more money. Kim did speak to TorrentFreak stating: “I am really excited about Baboom. I can’t wait for artists to see what i have created for them. Their entire career can be managed on Baboom. Artists never had more freedom, transparency and control.”

After bringing the Oval Space to life twice this summer already, secretsundaze return for one final blow out. This summer has seen secretsundaze party as hard as ever and the acts they have booked are very fitting for the occasion and the Summer the SS collective have enjoyed.

The main headliner is Motor City Drum Ensemble (MCDE) whose sound is growing in popularity amongst many in the techno and house scene. His hybrid sound of Detroit techno, soul and jazz is something to behold and the support he is gathering is just one sign of his growing reputation.

Support from and remixes for the likes of Caribou, Sprinkles and Zero 7 have elevated his status further and shown why he is even gaining fans as big as Moodymann. This is his third appearance this year for secretsundaze after proving all this hype right time after time.

Mr G will also be joining the party, bringing his bass heavy style to kick the party to the next level. His popularity has been growing and growing ever since his appearance for the Boiler Room and his consistency in releases are proof of his worthiness.

This is also a rather special appearance as, although he has featured for secretsundaze abroad, this is his UK debut. He is a real favourite within the secretsundaze camp and regularly features in their sets. So to finally hear an artist who has such a big influence on the Secretsundaze movement is sure to be an honour you don’t want to miss.

So, by the teaching of secretsundaze their selves: SS Summer Closing + Oval Space + MCDE + Mr G - Live + our residents Giles Smith and James Priestley = PARTY!

Cassette Store Day Celebrates A Growing Subculture

$

This past weekend on Saturday, September 7th, the world celebrated a technology that many of us thought became obsolete – cassette tapes. International Cassette Store Day, inspired by the larger-scale Record Store Day, brought cassette lovers together to celebrate this growing subculture. For the first time in over a decade, cassette sales have increased, and quite significantly.  Leaving Records, Moon Glyphs, Burger Records, Suplex Cassettes, Kissability, and SEXBEAT are just a few international labels specializing in cassette tapes that have experienced higher profits in recent years - up to 40%.

International Cassette Store Day was announced back in July. Launching in London, additional events were scheduled in locations around the world including New York, Chicago, Argentina, Finland, New Zealand, and Tokyo. Planned events included live music, cassette fairs, and tape swaps in addition to a long list of releases.

The three Cassette Store Day founders – Matt Flag, Jen Long, and Steve Rose – all operate their own tape labels. Matt Flag told Rolling Stone, “I came up with the idea on Record Store Day this year, when instead of taking part in the festivities I was sitting at home putting cassette inlays into cases for my friend's band Bad Sports, and figured that it was about time that cassettes had their own day.”

He believes that physical formats such as vinyl and cassettes will be around for the long-term. “The cassette is still a very current format in DIY and underground scenes due to its affordability and ease . . . I also think physical formats will stick around in music as when you are a fan you want more than a digital file. You want something you can interact with that holds a greater worth and reward.”

A new documentary celebrating the cassette tape is in the works. “Cassette” was successfully crowdfunded last year and focuses on the growing community of artists, labels, and fans who appreciate this technology and are instrumental in its renaissance. Check out the trailer here:

Derrick May And Technasia Smash We Love... At Space Ibiza

A few weeks back, we broke down We Love…’s September madness in order to give everyone a closer look at one of the biggest closing months of any party around. Now, each week this month we get the chance to bring that print to life, and come to life it did. It was another absolutely stellar Sunday this week, proving once again why the institution remains at the top of their game year after year.

Early on, longtime We Love… resident and favorite Jem Haynes, who recently released his first compilation, Colour Series Vol. 1, warmed things up nicely in the Discoteca. Haynes came out in full force, dropping dark little numbers like his remix of Sam Chorlton’s ‘Dusavik,’ heading to funkier territory with tracks like the Small Town Collective remix of he and Mike Peters’ ‘Dark Days.’ And in true Haynes style, the Colour Series boss headed over to groovier space with tracks like Samu.l’s ‘Have It Like That,’ keeping the early doors eager and happy.

Though it wouldn’t be We Love… without some of their trademark cozy room funk, now would it? Over in the Sunset Terrace, presented by Mr. Doris’ After Dark, was Norman Jay, who laid down the coolest of grooves to a well up for it and packed room, with timeless hits like Aretha Franklin’s 1968 classic ‘Think,’ the entire room erupting as the anthem hit its chorus, all belting out ‘Freedom!’ in unison, Mr. Doris himself singing right along. Shivers were down everyone’s spine. As nice as it was, Technasia’s rough and ready techno and tech house was beckoning from right next door. It was time to get our sweat on, but not before taking one last moment to soak it all in, because let’s face it – where else in the world can you go straight from soul classics to big room techno in seconds? This is what it’s all about.

Even though I was somewhat reticent to leave the comfort of the Sunset Terrace, it only took me but a moment to get right into the vibe, as the electricity in the Discoteca pulled me in quickly. I’d heard from a few mates before being able to get a listen for myself that Technasia was ripping it to shreds, but in this game, a first hand experience is always necessary before passing judgment. They were spot on. The French DJ and producer had the massive Discoteca crowd in the palm of his hand, and he knew it. Unleashing bomb after bomb, the Sino records boss simply wouldn’t stop, crushing us over and over with snappy hip shakers like ‘Ue Suala’ by Gel Abril, keeping every happy clubber moving right along with the DJ himself, Technasia dancing like he was having the time of his life – and for good reason.

Steering clear of some of the more elaborate effects that other parties at Space bring, We Love… kept the focus squarely where it should be on Sunday night – the music – and it paid off in full, as the crowd was one of the most friendly and positive I’ve seen all season. Technasia continued with bangers like ‘The Underground’ by Celeda, its lyrics reminding everyone just how good this really is. Not to be outdone, over in the Main Terrace, Detroit legend Derrick May was laying it down fast and proper. So after a quick break to cool off, we caught up with the master in action.

Derrick took over in the Main Terrace after fellow Detroit native and partner in crime on the latest We Love… compilation, ‘We Love… Detroit’, Jimmy Edgar, who began with a Paul Ritch style builder before keeping things close to the sleeve, unleashing torrents of unreleased material on the willing We Love… crowd. Edgar cut loose with nothing but his trademark bass driven techno, and one can only hope he’ll be more of a fixture next season.

May kept things rolling along perfectly with dark, warehouse ready synth driven bombs like ‘I Know Where Your Mind Is’ by Federico Gandin, heading to more upbeat territory with ‘Vital Sound’ by Jovonn. From there, May expertly cut to grooves like ‘Night Long’ by London FM & Irregular Synth, keeping the tempo high and the beats sweet. I’ll admit, living in Ibiza, one can feel spoiled, and perhaps jaded from time to time. But this is why when presented with the opportunity to see someone like Derrick May step up to the decks, the island heads are always out in full force. To watch May work is nothing but a pleasure, but to hear him steer things, well, wherever he wants to, with the greatest of ease, is something to be relished in full, and the crowd couldn’t have been happier to follow along. Not wanting to miss the return of former We Love… resident Claude VonStroke, we made our way back into the Discoteca to get deep into the bass.

The dirtybird boss picked up right where Technasia left off, starting his set with a much more tribal feel than normal, keeping the tech house groove alive with shakers like ‘Change It’ by Fisher & Fiebak, though he wouldn’t stay there for long. Jacking the energy right up, Claude moved to heavy hitters like Jimmy Edgar’s massive tune, ‘Strike,’ which has been getting proper rotation this season by every jock worth his salt, setting the San Francisco native up perfectly for his eventual transition into heavier territory with tracks like Doorly’s Club Mix of ’Jack Ya Body’ by Steve Silk Hurley, unleashing VonStroke to bring the bass hard and big for the rest of the night. Dirtybird was in the house!

Another smashing session from We Love…, no doubt. I, for one, will be counting the days until next Sunday. And if you’re lucky enough to be island bound, do yourself a favor and grab tickets below to next week’s fiesta, featuring Steve Bug, Duke Dumont, Kevin Saunderson, James Zabiela, Simian Mobile Disco, Heidi, Boddika, Special Request Live, Foamo and many more!

Following the news last week that Future Entertainment had collapsed with massive debts owing to disgruntled creditors (and just two weeks after the company was acquired by The Mushroom Group), it now appears that the fallout of the company will affect the future of the Summadayze festival.

Speaking to Melbourne newspaper The Age, Mushroom Group founder Mr Gudinski confirmed the 2014 Summadayze event was unlikely to proceed.

''I'd heard there were difficulties after this year's Summadayze but I didn't really get a sense of the scale of it until we started due diligence, a couple of months ago," Gudinski said.

'We've got a massive job ahead with the Future Music Festival. We want to make it a much better experience for the people who are going. We're looking long term."

The new joint venture between Mushroom Group and the company formerly known as Future Entertainment will be headed up by partners Brett Robinson & Scott Robertson and Mr Gudinski's son, Matt Gudinski, while Jason Ayoubi will remain as a consultant. Mark Condron (Mark James) will have no further involvement with the business.

Hunter/Game: Beats Of Prey

Hunter/Game may seem like new comers, but these boys – Martino Bertola and Emmanuele Nicosia - have long been releasing tracks on labels such as Hot Creations and Get Physical. Their secret loft parties in Milan ‘Just This’ saw the birth of talent such as Tale of Us and gave them a solid platform to launch the Hunter/Game name, which has received a huge response both from fans and the industry alike.

Moving towards a more underground direction, exploring new sounds, Hunter/Game have released their new EP ‘The Island’ featuring smooth, ethereal tracks that house their signature deep groove. The EP is currently out on Sasha’s Last Night on Earth label - an imprint dedicated to showcasing new and upcoming electronic music talent. We speak with Hunter/Game to find out more.

Pulse: How would you describe your sound? Emmanuele Nicosia (Hunter/Game): Our sound comes from our different backgrounds. Emmanuel was influenced by the late 80s and Indie rock music, Martino has always been into techno. Now we are more influenced by the new waves from the electronic music scene as Boards of Canada, Flying Lotus and Mount Kimbie. We merge our feelings into a unique vibe, trying to move our sound more into electronic music, always keeping techno as the main element.

Your new EP ‘The Island” is out on Sasha's Last Night on Earth label. What has the response been so far, not just from the crowd but the DJ community? Actually we had a really great response from the DJ community, also from people we weren’t expecting. This release was really versatile and was able to catch a lot of people, breaking the borders of different genres. That’s why we had also great feedback from the crowd too.

Do you have any favourite tracks off the EP, any that you find yourself regularly playing?
The Single 'The Island' is really important for us. It signals a really big change into our sound, we evolved our music more into electronic music, trying to go a bit far from the clubbing sound. 'North Voice' with Voidstep is part of a story in our DJ sets and the remix pack is really working in clubs. Jacob Korn has a really strong analog vibe and the Baikal remix is a real killer track.

All the tracks are collaborations with other artists. Were they made specifically for the EP or a mix of tracks that you’ve made over time? We started to produce some tracks for our album during the last year, involving singers over some tracks, with a global concept over all. Then we decided to release some of them before the album release, so we came out with this EP. We were big fan of Bajka’s works and felt really special to be able to make a track together, and the lyrics she wrote for us caught exactly our vibe. We are still working together for another track for our album.Camille is a friend from NYC that came into our music, we were surprised to hear her great talent. Voidstep is one of our best friends, sitting many times in studio with us - he has always been next to the H/G project since the beginning.

You’ve released on Hot Creations, Get Physical Music and a number of other labels. Any plans in the future for your own label?
At the moment we are thinking about our Music, and the evolution of our sound. We really want to go far from clubbing and the music that is going around now. We are really happy with LNOE, they give us a lot of space, and Sasha really supports our music. This is the perfect base for an artist to release interesting music.

What can we expect from Hunter/Game in the future? Are there any projects you’re working on? It’s more than a year we've been working on our album and we actually don’t know when it is going to be ready. We have a lot of tracks going on and some great collaborations, so for sure we will have space to make some releases in the meantime. We actually signed off on a couple of EPs coming out this winter, it’s going to be a surprise.

Sasha has made you residents at his “Never Say Never” party in Ushuaia. How has that been so far? The Never Say Never party in Ushuaia Tower is something special in Ibiza, a different vibe to all the things going on in the island. It’s amazing to perform there with artists as Matthew Dear, Ewan Person, DJ Sneak and off course Sasha, in a special rooftop venue. We found in Sasha a great person to work with - he is a legend, but he acts like the guy next door. He keeps his profile low over 20 years and he has the sensibility to understand where the music is going so far. He has an intense energy that he shares with people and his crowd, so playing with him is always special.

H:G 2

Ushuaia has brought back day partying to Ibiza. What do you think the day parties have brought, especially Never Say Never? What does it add that's different to the overflowing calendar of parties on the island? Daytime parties have always had a great mood, living the sunset moment while you are playing or dancing is always special. You can take people into a journey that passes from the day sunshine to the depth of the night. Never Say Never was really an innovative situation in the Island, the rooftop has an intense energy and a suggestive location with a view to the whole island. The crowd following Sasha is quite adult and mature and gives you the possibility to express your music and feel totally free. In our opinion, day parties give the chance to all those people who don't want to go really forward into the night and instead live the Island by its beautiful day time to have fun and a great music experience.

Any other places on the island or around the world that fans can look forward to?
We had a small Turkish tour in Istanbul and in Izmir in August, then we went straight to our crazy friends in Malta. But before coming back to Ibiza we will take off a couple of weeks to make a proper vacation after a full year.

Is it your first time visit to Australia in October? What do you know about us?
It’s our first time in Australia and we are really excited about our tour there. We were at Pulse Radio during a gig in London couple of years ago. We think Pulse is a really good platform, it's not focused only on reviews and events, and gives a lot of space to podcasts, and that is a really great chance for artists to reach their audience. The technology era has helped the electronic music community to grow. Internet media such as youtube, podcasts and blogs, are replacing the old media such as TV, radio and press. Everything is more accessible, from users and from artists that have the network to promote themselves for free.

Congratulations on your recent signing to Primary Talent. How does it feel to finally be represented by an agency and have someone else do all the time consuming hard work like management and press releases? We had this great chance to get into Primary Talent, the biggest booking agency managing artists such as Daft Punk and Lana Del Rey. They have an incredible way to work that gives us the confidence to focus on our music.

Where do you prefer playing, in an open air festival-like venue such as Ushuaia or an intimate loft party or warehouse such as DC10? The dynamics of the crowd and music are both different in these two spaces. The most important thing is the vibe from the people that makes everything magic. It can be an open air, a club, a loft, or a friend's basement. Just everyone sharing good energy to make an unforgettable night.

After summer, where will you be based? Berlin, Milan or New York? Well you didn’t mentioned London! Anyway after a year as gypsies, we decided to be based in Milan. We think it’s really the fashion to move around. We have everything we need in our city: our studio, our friends...and our Mums cooking for us on Sunday after the gigs!

Cut Copy announce new album 'Free Your Mind' and share title track

Melbourne indie-dance outfit Cut Copy have announced their upcoming fourth studio album, 'Free Your Mind' will be released on November 1 through Modular.

The four piece had recorded the follow up to 2011's Grammy nominated 'Zonoscope' in their hometown of Melbourne and enlisted frontman Dan Whitford for production duties, although a move to upstate New York saw the album mixed by none other than Dave Fridmann, who has previously lent his mixing prowess to the likes of Tame Impala, MGMT and The Flaming Lips.

However the band have taken some unorthodox approaches to leaking their own tracks including cutting album track 'Let Me Show You Love' into a limited 120 dubplates for lucky fans who happened to be in the right place at the right time. For the title track, the band placed 6 billboards across the world (Australia, the UK, Chile, Mexico City, Detroit and the California Desert) and fans were able to listen to the song via their smartphones on the bands website; check it out below.

Harvest Festival Facing Cancellation

It looks as though Summadayze isn't the only festival facing the chopping block, with Harvest promoter AJ Maddah posting a series of tweets which reveals the upcoming edition of the popular event is in dire straits due to poor ticket sales.

“Having a crisis of confidence about the whole event," reads Maddah's first tweet, before continuing on with an explanation.

“The truth is that unless we see some kind of sign in the next week we’ll have to consider the worst. Since BDO announced a very top heavy Harvest-centric line-up (Blur, Arcade Fire, Lumineers, etc), sales have died. Which is understandable tbh. As a small boutique festival with emphasis on arts & experience we can’t compete. We’re heartbroken seeing our favourite child get sickly and are doing everything to make it work. Either [we sell tickets with the second lineup] or we have dug an even deeper hole… That’s what I am trying to decide atm.”

According to Maddah, the city with the worst sales thus far is Brisbane. The festival is scheduled to also take place in Sydney and Melbourne.

Now in its third year, Harvest is a relative a newcomer to the festival market, yet found a popular niche through lineups which mix up rock, indie and electronic music from artists who aren't the hyped flavour of the month. This year's lineup includes Massive Attack, Goldfrapp, Franz Ferdinand, Primus! to name a few.
