The Bloodhound Gang Upset Russia By Desecrating National Flag

$

Pop punk band The Bloodhound Gang are still touring and still producing music. And they're still up to their childish antics - although their latest 'stunt' has landed them in hot (potentially dangerous) water with the Russian authorities.

Known for running around in Monkey onesies and talking about things smelling funny, the band were recently playing to fans in Ukrainian city of Odessa, The band's bassist, Jared Hasselhoff, attempted to give the crowd a show, by shoving the Russian flag down his pants, before asking the crowd to not mention it and keep it a secret from Vladmir Putin. The crowd loved the stunt - but the watching Russians are not. And they're pursuing the band too.

A member of the band’s crew was attacked after the show with whips and the band themselves were also said to have been pelted with eggs by pro-Kremlin groups as they headed to the airport. The Russian authorities are also looking into the possibility of legal action against the band and they were questioned before leaving the country.

The country's Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky described the band as "idiots" and that they were "packing their suitcases", whilst the band were reportedly attacked at the airport on route home, by pro-Kremlin supporters who attempted to strangle them with an American flag  See below of the video “the Cossacks beat Americans in Anapa” that apparently shows the beginning of the brawl, in which the police promptly intervened, as well some people stomping on a US flag.

Video: Bob Sinclar's Racy and Funny DJ Mag Top 100 Campaign Ad

We're loving all these hysterical campaign ads DJs are putting out to remind people to vote for them. In fact, we're wondering why nobody did this sooner? Granted this does not show a DJ's talent or music, but we will never turn down an opportunity to have ourselves a laugh. This is a much nicer alternative to buying people's votes - by winning their hearts. Bob Sinclar reminds us in an absolutely racy and humorous way, to vote for him in the upcoming polls for DJ Mag Top 100 DJs. Don't worry, it's safe to watch at work. And here we were, thinking his six-pack was photoshopped on all his event flyers…

Pulselocker, The Streaming Music Service Made Just for DJs

$

0

There's a new music service relaunching today after its beta period last year called Pulselocker, that caters specifically to DJs. Here's how it works. The program that resembles closely to iTunes in UI, streams music and allows you to create playlists that can be available for local playback. You can select certain music for your "locker," which you rent out for a price depending on how many songs you would like to store. The difference between Pulselocker and other music streaming services is that these tracks can be used in DJ programs Serato and Traktor. In short terms, it's a way of renting your music, without having to pay for each individual track, unless of course you choose to.

The service has over 14 million songs available, ranging from electronic music to jazz. By using Cloud technology, your account is accessible anywhere, so long as you have an internet connection. The tracks in your locker are synced to your computer, and as long as you have a subscription, you may play them as many times as you'd like. Monthly subscription rates start at $9.99 for 25-track locker up to $59.99 for a 1000-track locker, with options in between. Available for both PC and Mac platforms, users can have a 30-day trial period before they purchase their subscription.

Business wise, the company is not aiming to become competition for current major stream services. "Spotify and others were going after a very mainstream approach," Pulselocker CTO and co-founder Ryan Walsh told The Verge, a technology website. However, that mainstream approach, Ryan Walsh says, "You can't DJ it."

Lake People Makes His US Debut in Miami, New York & Detroit

$

German live act Lake People is making his US debut this week, with a tour through three cities: Miami, New York, and Detroit. He is fresh off the release of his most recent notable remixes of Nico Stojan’s “After the Hour” and Kollektiv Turmstrasse’s “Ordinary.” Lake People has also released productions under the alias Llewellyn, such as the remix of “Fews” by Panthera Krause. His work has been supported by the likes of Dixon, head honcho of Innervisions and Jozif, who was recently asked to compile a "Balance Presents" mix. Hailing from Leipzig, there is little to be found about the enigmatic figure we know as Lake People. Besides his alias Llewellyn, he can sometimes be found collaborating with Powel under the name Lake Powel. Some rough researching tells us that Lake People's career only a few years ago in 2010 and his first name may be Martin, but of that we are still not completely sure of.

But never mind the man, what's important is his music. Ambient and melodic, Lake People's is a deviation from the heavier sounds of house, into an exploration of electronic music's lighter side, giving the 4/4 beat room to breathe. Rather eclectic in style in his sets, Lake People varies from more classic house to electronica, making it an evening of musical exploration to tickle our brains with new sound waves. Check out one of his previous sets below.

This Thursday, August 8th, Bespoke Musik and Sub-Motus will team up to present Lake People alongside German DJ LUX at the Electric Pickle in Miami.  Sub-Motus resident Baez will be opening at the Miami show.

The US tour continues the following night on Friday, August 9th at a secret location in Brooklyn presented by Bespoke Musik. Lake People will be joined by Tigerskin in a live set alongside resident Rami Deejay and special guest LUX. Be sure to get your tickets on Pulse Radio!

Thursday, August 15th at the Grasshopper Underground in Detroit marks the third and final US date for Lake People. Detroit local Aboudi Issa will provide support for the event presented by BuddhaGroove and Grasshopper.

Video: Hot Natured's Isis (Magic Carpet Ride) featuring Egyptian Lover

Hot Natured has gifted us a new music video of their track "Isis (Magic Carpet Ride)" featuring the vocals of Egyptian Lover. The video debuted yesterday, Monday August 5th on Pitchfork's youtube channel. The plot of the video's story resembles a lot of our weekends, detailing the hours that we come to someone's pad for an after hours party post-gig. Hallucinations, assumed drug use, and everyone rolling around on couches, floors, and ceilings accompany Egyptian Lover's smooth vocals, making it quite the psychedelic trip.

For those who are still unaware, Hot Natured is comprised of Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Luca C and Ali Love (the two also make up Infinity Ink). The track "Isis" is off of their debut album, "Different Sides of the Sun" which comes out on Monday, September 2nd. The fifteen track album will be released on Hot Creations, FFRR and Warners as well.

Quick Fire: Rossko

If you’ve missed out on Ibiza’s hidden gem, here’s your chance to claim your treasure. FUSE, one of London’s most beloved institutions, has come to Ibiza in recent years, cementing itself as the place to be for lovers of the underground on Wednesday nights. And Sankeys Ibiza, the island’s most underground friendly venue, is the perfect place to see the night play out. We chatted with one of the night’s residents, Rossko, ahead of another incredible night of uncharted, boundary pushing territory that FUSE founder, Enzo Siragusa and the rest of the crew have become hailed for. We spoke to Rossko in order to find out how his relationship with one of the most respected brands in underground clubbing came about.

How long have you been with FUSE? Hey Pulse Radio! I was playing for Fuse on and off as a guest since 2008 when the first parties began at 93 Feet East, but officially Enzo and Tony invited me to become a resident back in June, 2011.

How did you hook up with them initially? A mutual friend introduced Enzo to me at a warehouse party in London back in 2008. After hanging for the night, we actually came to the conclusion that we had met many years ago, but that’s another story itself! Enzo invited me to come down to play his new party, Circuit. It was in a basement of this really cool bar/club called Home Bar tucked away in Shoreditch. After spinning there, I met up with Tony and the rest of the crew, and I started to hang out with everyone. Fuse started a few months later as an after party for the after party of Circuit!

What makes playing FUSE Ibiza different than back in London? FUSE Ibiza exposes us to new people from all over the UK and rest of the world that may not of had the chance to experience the parties what we do back home. It’s been great to meet people that support the label and have been following us from afar. Ibiza is a great hub for this and it really does show us how far we have reached out.

Why do you think the party works so well out here? Having our Ibiza residency at Sankeys has really helped us create the similar vibes and feeling to what we do back home. Having a great PR team and full-support from the club is really important to us. It’s also great we have a sound engineer that really understands our sound and is very patient with us every week!

Have you any new original tracks in the pipeline that we might be hearing this summer? This year I have been sitting in the studio with a few engineers working on some new projects that I have been testing out at Fuse. I also have a track with Enzo and Luke Miskelly that will be finished soon. This winter will be committed to studio time so I can get all these finished and more ready for the label.

No new music from The Avalanches just yet says Modular

Those in hope of some new Avalanches material will be sorely disappointed as an announcement from Modular squashed claims  that the iconic band were set to release new material.

The statement emphasized that the group has in fact done a remix of Hunters & Collectors song ‘Talking To A Stranger’ and stressed that no new material is being released yet; The Avalanches are currently in the studio working on the follow up to 2000’s breakout record ‘Since I Left You’.

The kerfuffle has also blown open Mushroom Group's now not so secret plans for a tribute album for seminal Aussie rock outfit Hunters & Collectors, which is set to feature Matt Corby, Cloud Control and Missy Higgins and of course The Avalanches, whose take on 'Talking To A Stranger' is described by Modular as "...cut up with an old disco sample'.

The wait for one of the most overdue albums continues…

Video: Man Implants Headphones In His Ears

$

A man interested in the practice of so called 'Biohacking' has reportedly had earphones implanted into his ears.

An idea that came about from more than just being disgruntled about cheap in-ear headphones (and losing the damn things), Rich Lee (explaining in the video above) believes the implants - essentially magnets that transmit sound directly into his ears - are a step closer towards Echolocating, as the self confessed 'Grinder' (someone interested in blurring the linesbetween biological and technological synergy, DIY style) is losing his eyesight.

A body modification specialist implanted the magnets in his tragus and he is now able to play music through any 1/8″ jack-equipped device, which then passes through a battery-powered amplifier, into a copper coil necklace, before reaching his magnetized ears.

"The sound quality is decent, maybe comparable to a cheap set of earbuds. It exceeded my expectations. I would have been happy with a muffled hum, since listening to music was not my primary motivation"  said Lee to Consequence of Sound.

Marco Carola Announces Music On Residency at Marquee New York

New Yorkers rejoice! Marco Carola has just announced on his Facebook fan page today a Music On New York City residency at Marquee every Friday starting Friday, October 25th. This post has garnered a lot of attention, with over 1,730 likes from fans as well as comments along the lines of "I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS!" We find this equally exciting, as New York City precipitates to be a center of the best talent in electronic music.

The Music On residency will now take over Marquee Fridays, further enriching the New York City electronic music scene with Marco Carola's brand of tech house and techno. Now that we have Marco Carola joining the likes of Cassy with a residency in the US, all we have left to accomplish is to get Ricardo Villalobos to play stateside. Perhaps that will be sooner than we think.
