Jamiroquai, massive international artist that really needs no introduction with hits like ‘Virtual Insanity’ from way back in 96’ to name only ONE that will already get you on-point - we could go on for days with all his successes……Jay Kay says “Looking forward to returning to South Africa to see all at the Delicious Festival” - quite sure the rest of South Africa is looking forward to your return as well Jason. Yes definitely.

After tracks from Four Tet's forthcoming album were streamed on BBC Radio One and Rinse FM last night, it seems a rip has appeared on YouTube for opening album track 'Kool FM'.

Kieran Hebden's new album Beautioful Rewind sees him exploring more experimental dancefloor ground in mucbh the same way as his contempoary Daphni. Rugged, toughened beats and raw percussion make up the meat of this homage to the famous UK Pirate radio station.

Quick Fire: Russ Chimes

On occasion, the musical fruits delivered by the trending collision of pop and dance musc crossover can be oh-so-sweet. Mixing up dance music tempos, poppy hooks and lashings of atmospherics and sub bass, London based DJ/producer Russ Chimes is concerned with making music that appeals to all - without selling himself short. Keeping true to his core aesthetics of youthfully energetic beats & irresistible grooves, his latest EP 'Turn Me Out' sees the young Londoner go deeper into his self-styled sound. Pulse's Martin Moffat decided to give Russ a good grilling for our latest Quick Fire interview.

Hi Russ, for anyone who is unfortunate enough to not have heard of you yet – tell us a bit about yourself... My name's Russ Chimes, I'm a producer from London UK, and i've been making dance music for the last 4 years or so.

You broke onto the scene in 2010 with your Midnight Trilogy EP and accompanying music videos. What prompted you to make the trilogy? It must have taken a lot of work, would you ever go down a similar route with a future release? The trilogy was actually the idea of the director at the time. He messaged me out of the blue as a film student when i first started out, saying he was a fan and asking if he could ever work on a video for me in the future. A year or so later I sent him through the 3 track 'Midnight Club' EP with a view to him picking a track to make a video, when he got back to me he said he couldn't choose - "so let's make one for each". Pretty ridiculous to think back at that now. We were only really able to do it due to the director just finishing film school in California, so we got to use the schools equipment and insurance to help keep the costs down. I think to do it again, it would have to be a particular cohesive and concept heavy EP. It's not something i'm looking to do as there'll always be comparisons now, but who knows!

You've produced some extremely popular tracks that have had a great response in the mainstream (enjoying regular national radio play) while still maintaining (or so it appears from the outside) your underground sensibilities. I hear your DJ sets often include stuff by Dusky and Breach and I saw on your blog recently you picked up the new Bicep x SMD release on vinyl. How do you manage to maintain the balance between underground and accessible– is it a conscious effort? I never consciously produce music to appeal to the mainstream, it just sort of comes out that it's accessible as sorts. I guess if just a fan of all the melodies, riffs and hooks from the music I grew up listening too, and it naturally finds its way in there. It can be problematic at times, as sometimes i'm really trying to go the other way and make more underground stuff, that suits what I play out a bit more, and i end up having to reproduce things and enter a process of stripping it back, which actually can quite therapeutic. But yes, the majority of music i listen to and play out is from the underground world really. It's never been a conscious thing, so it's good that it seems balanced from an outside perspective.

You've remixed tracks by some pretty big names so far in your career. How important was remixing other peoples work to your career? Do you enjoy remixing as much as producing a track from scratch? Remixing is usually easier as at least you have a set defined starting point, whether it be a vocal or a riff etc… It can be quite a challenge sitting in front of a blank Logic project and trying to get something going from scratch. I think it's been really beneficial for me to remix other artists work, it's kind of how the ball got rolling for me, and seems to be an entry point for a lot of producers (doing a bootleg or re-edit).

You've got a history in graphic design which which you were doing before you were making music for a living. I know you take a hands on approach towards your artwork and music videos but, in your opinion, how easily does being a visually creative translate into musical creativity? What made you make the switch from visual to aural? It kind of got to that point where i had quit full time and was working freelance, to open up more time for gigs/remixes etc… 3 days on/4 days off kinda thing. The music just became too much to fit around another job, and eventually it got to a point where the question arose "do i give this a shot now and see what happens, or regret that i never tried it in 10 years". The first few months were actually terrifying, but once you settle into the new way of living it kind of becomes normal. The process seems to be largely the same, as do the creative blocks, and flurries of inspiration when it all comes together. I think the main factor has been from being used to working in a studio of other designers, to just being on your own all the time, it can be quite difficult to decide on something with no easy direct interaction with others, and can lead to procrastinating on stupid shit for ages!

Your new track Turn Me Out not long ago – and I must admit its a little groover which comes correct with a pretty cool video. When watching the video I liked the dancing people (mostly the girls) but was a bit confused by the introduction of a fish at one point. Was that one of your creative inputs and if so...what was that all about? Don't be confused by fish, he means no harm. It was part of the directors treatment to be honest, i had no direct involvement with any fish on the day. I think it was just one of a load of random nonsensical cut shots that they wanted to use around the edit, just to make it largely different or more unusual than most cookie cutter mainstream dance videos.

I know a lot of people have been wondering for some time when they will get to see a Russ Chimes album being released. Is there anything you can throw our way regarding that? We know you can't rush perfection but the people want to know. It's an ongoing thing really. I've had enough tracks in the past, but it just never felt like the right tracks all came together at the right time. Hopefully that will change in the near future and i'll feel comfortable releasing a number of tracks as a body of work that feels cohesive and purposeful.

<br>

You've enjoyed a lot of success from your music which has seen you play all over the world. What has been the best non-musical thing that you've been able to do as a result of your music career? Travelling is obviously a huge bonus, and getting to meet some really cool people and make good friends along the way. You've got a busy schedule ahead of you this summer playing at festivals all over the place.

Your also going up to Glasgow to play at the Sub club (my favourite club in the whole world). Have you played in Glasgow before? Will you be sampling the cities traditional food and drink (Irn Bru, deep fried Mars bars and Buckfast)? Never played at Sub Club before, but always heard good things, so massively stoked about it. Actually it will be my first time in Glasgow, but i have played in Edinburgh and Inverness before. Had a deep fried pizza once. Fuck me. It was intense.

What have you got lined up for the future? Anything you can exclusively reveal to us? I'm working on a follow up to Turn Me Out, as well as some other releases, that aren't on such a mainstream level, more of a club cuts thing. I've been doing a mix tape series called 'Expressway Mixtapes' for the last few years which came to it's 5th and last instalment earlier this year, so i'm going to be starting a brand new series soon. And yeah still working towards that elusive album!

'Turn Me Out' is out now. Buy it from here.

Agents vs. Promoters GIFs, The Age Long Battle

We really have to commend some of the tumblrs out there for some funny creative content to get us through our Friday mornings. We recently discovered our new favorite, the Agent vs Promoter tumblr, which presents a funny array of gifs that showcase the business side of the music industry. Agents and promoters' misconceptions and realities are put forward for chuckling, but still carry a lot of truth behind them. Who needs a music business course, when you can see the daily doings metaphorically re-enacted by Seinfeld and Ryan Gosling gifs. Much more effective class if you ask us.

Here are a couple of our favorite gif selections and their explanations, but be sure to check out the tumblr here for more.

Rest In Vinyl: Get Your Ashes Pressed Into Music

$

Here's something rather morbid you don't hear of every day: you can now preserve your ashes into vinyl, thanks to Raveyard by andvinyly.com. Now people can keep you in their memory by listening to you, literally. While the site has slightly humorous deathly look to it, full of grim reapers, and uh, skulls, the service is taken very seriously and with the utmost respect towards the deceased.

The "Basic Package" provides 30 vinyl discs made from yours truly with standard R.I.V. (Rest In Vinyl) artwork, and an audio recording of your choice for the grand total of £3000 (~$4618 USD). If you feel that your "immortalization" requires more than that, they have quite a few extras available. For example, the album artwork can be a portrait of you painted by James Hague of the National Portrait Gallery or by Paul Insect, if you choose to have your image commemorated. Other features include a Sonic Template for the voice recording you supply, "Bespook Music" - music written and tailored for the customer, and Closed Loops. These extras, of course, all have an added cost ranging from £3500 to £250.

Don't feel like contributing all your ashes? You can submit body parts and have the rest arrange to be buried, so you can have the best of both worlds. FUNerals can be organized as well, as an alternative to the traditional funerals people orchestrate, by an team of event organizers to play your record to an audience of friends and family members.

So if you wish to "live from beyond the groove," or if you're a very staunch vinyl advocate until the day you die, we highly recommend you look into this form of musical "immortalization."

Disclosure Recognizes Why Sometimes DJs Have to Mime

It's over a month later since Disclosure's fake DJing stunt at Capital FM's Summertime Ball on June 11th, and still the buzz about it keeps on going. While the boys have said in a statement that they were upset that weren't allowed by the festival to mix or play live and made it look as obvious as possible that they weren't, MTV News UK interviewed the duo yesterday once more on the topic.

Guy details in the interview, "It was really horrible you know to be at such an amazing venue, hearing your own music and not being able to play any of it." As much as they disliked it, after the fact they have come to a new slightly different conclusion.

“But… I can understand now why DJs have to do that, because for that show for instance, the reason we had to do was ‘cause the change over was like thirty seconds and … I know that everyone will say it, it’s like ‘if you’re really incredible you should’ve said no to the show’, but its like, understand, we just had to do it.”

For that instance they may have acquiesced, but the duo still holds true to their values of delivering a show and playing their music, which they put a lot of effort into.

Infinity Ink has just released a music video for its spectacular track, 'Aya.' With a nice airy but still groovy vibe with suave vocals of Ali Love, the track is perfect for your car getaway out east to the Hamptons or whichever beach shores may be calling your name. Love mentioned in a statement that he got his experience from a gospel singing course, which lends to why he hits every note just perfectly. As to the soulfulness behind it, the track lyrics summarize it well, 'love is just a feeling.'

The video features hypnotic and beautiful visuals of nature, intermixed with shots of Infinity Ink themselves. Check it out bleow. The track is also available for free download on their website houseofinfinity.com.

Apollonia Return to DC-10

After the success of last year’s one-off at DC-10, much-lauded Parisian house trio Apollonia is returning to their home turf here in Ibiza for an epic 8-hour journey through music on Saturday, August 24th.

The trio, made up of Shonky, Dyed Soundorom and Dan Ghenacia – heavy hitters behind the decks and in the studio even as solo acts – recently released their debut production under their Apollonia guise entitled ‘Trinidad,’ hot off the back of their turn at the much hailed Fabric mix series, Fabric 70.

Needless to say, the trio has built up incredible momentum since the inception of Apollonia, gracing the decks with their back-to-back-to-back sets at some of the hottest and most cutting edge clubs around the world. Partly due to their style of music, a mix of slow burning, druggy house with the most subtle hints of progression, and partly due to a deep connectedness as friends, their sets are known for leading listeners on a journey deep through the minds of the Frenchmen, connecting you to them almost as much as they are two each other. And as anyone who’s seen them knows, these unique, introspective journeys, even when held back at just three hours of mixing, are always awe inspiring, making their upcoming 8-hour performance at DC-10 something that will be truly special to behold.

This photo was snapped of what could quite possibly be the only pair of 7'' Technics turntables in the world at the Tools of War Crotona Park Jams party in New York City recently. The owner of the extremely rare set of decks is the same person who claims they are the only ones on the planet - hip-hop DJ Biz Markie. DJ Worx (who took the photo) speculates that they were prototypes crafted before Technics shut down in 2010.

If it's true, then who better to have the only pair than Biz Markie. They guy has an epic collection of 45s. See the below video for proof.

Burning Man festival announces Expansion in Size

Burning Man Festival - the creative and arts based festival situiated in the Nevada desert - has announced that it shall be expanding size after being granted a recreation permit from federal land managers to hold more people.

Now able to grow in capacity to be able to hold 68,000 attendees, growing from some 56,000 attendees last year - a rise of around 20%. However, this move to embrace the off beat festival comes with a hefty set of conditions, including tighter public safety, resource management and keeping the area clean.

"Our priorities in managing this permit continue to be the protection and conservation of natural and cultural resources, as well as the safety for all participants and staffs," government spokesman Seidlitz said. "I feel confident the permit addresses these priorities." The Burning Man Festival originally began in Baker Beach, San Francisco, and attracted 80 people in 1990. The crowd was capped at 50,000 under a five-year permit that expired in 2010.

Burning Man takes place between August 26th - September 2nd.
