‘Ready To Love’ On F! Records - Rocca & Martini And Joe Louis Feat. Phaksy

Yesterday the first official single by Rocca and Martini, ‘Ready To Love’, was released on F! Records (a division of Soul Candi Music) and aired on 5fm on the DJ Fresh show. The track was made with Joe Louis and features Phaksy, former SA Idols top 9 contestant and winner of SABC 1 CanDo.

The track is full of the epic progressive house romanticism which is growing in EDM, which Rocca and Martini do so well in their sets, and which is made raw and beautiful through Phaksy’s expression. Below is a preview of the track and one of their mixes. Check out the full track on iTunes here.

“Today was a really monumental day for us and our career.. We are extremely elated to have our first single released and available to all our lovely fans.. This is a first of many for us and we can't wait to share more of our music with you all”.

When asked what to expect at their gigs Rocca & Martini simply say "It’s all about the experience we (create) for our fans and the high energy we create with the biggest electronic dance music tracks of today along with some compositions of our own, leaving everyone on the dance floor, or even in their own personal space, satisfied."

Early in 2012 the Rocca & Martini Brand really started moving up the popularity ladder and as the year went on they landed a sponsorship with Skull Candy, Local Apparel sponsorship by JuiceBOX (SA) as well as a sneaker sponsorship from Feiyue. This was just the beginning of their rise as they went on to place second in the 5FM's ultimix at 6 DJ competition and place in the top 3 for a Nescafe sponsored Toya Delazy Remix competition. Currently Rocca and Martini are on the line up for most the major music festivals in South Africa and are constantly gigging at the hottest clubs in the country.

Giorgio Moroder Set to Release First Solo Album in 30 Years

After recapturing dance music's collective imagination in the last two years, disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder is set to release his first solo album in 30 years.

If some dance music fans out there hadn't heard of Giorgio Moroder before he collaborated with Daft Punk, it's almost certain they're fully aware of the Italian icon now. And on the back of that resurgence of success, Moroder is releasing his first solo album in 30 years, collaborating with Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, Sia, Charlie XCX, and others.

He's also released a single from the forthcoming album, which is due out in the Spring of 2015, cheekily dubbed "74 Is The New 24". Moroder himself turned 74 this year, and if the track's pumping energy, aggressive synth lines and disco sensibilities indicate, Moroder is in fine form for a new LP.

Purchase "74 Is The New 24" on iTunes here.

Above & Beyond hit their first Burning Man this past summer, and it was an experience they will never forget. One of their performances was at Robot Heart for a sunset yoga session with renowned yogi Elena Brower, and saw Above & Beyond playing music not normally included in their club performances. The set is now available for stream and download below:

"When we were invited to work with Elena Brower to create a unique sunset Yoga Session for Robot Heart at Burning Man, we realised this was actually something we'd wanted do for a long time. We’re all fans of deep, ambient music and make some of it ourselves, but we hadn’t really been playing music like that together in public. Test driven in hotel rooms by Paavo, this short yoga session is intended to make you feel relaxed, present and alert. Enjoy x" - Above & Beyond

 photo BM_zpsfd10bb1c.jpg

Over their three critically-acclaimed studio albums, along with their recent Acoustic project, Above & Beyond have continually been celebrated for placing real musicianship and songwriting at the heart of what they do. While their famed club mixes have resonated with the dance generation, the songs behind them have touched fans of all ages across the globe. As influenced as much by Jeff Buckley or Bon Iver as they are by their deep love of electronic music, Above &Beyond’s songs and lyrics have been sung back to them at the world’s biggest stadiums and stages – from Brixton Academy to LA's Hollywood Palladium, to their famed 1 million people gig at Barra Beach in Rio de Janeiro in 2007.

The band has just recently announced a massive worldwide tour in support of their next artist album, 'We Are All We Need,' which will be released via Ultra Records in North America on January 20th. AfrikaBurn Tickets On Sale – All The Details

AfrikaBurn, the African version of Burning Man, is an expansive, all-arts-encompassing, wild, adventure making event held every year at Tankwa Town in the Karoo Desert. Attendees flock in thousands upon thousands to express themselves through music, art, design, dress up, and most importantly, burning, as a way to create awareness for earth and social issues, and to express themselves, exchange ideas, and simply have fun. This year the theme is 'The Gift', and finally, the long-awaited first batch of tickets has been released.

Check out our first article on AfrikaBurn 2015 here and our roundup of the best pictures, videos and info here.

Last year, AfrikaBurn introduced the Bio system, to provide attendees with a way to record past participation, and as a requirement for buying tickets. It's the same again this year - only, as the Bio now lives on the site (and not on Quicket), you'll need to create a new one.

This time they are also including a questionnaire in the registration process. We are hoping that we won’t be judged by our answers and excluded from the party…
It is also made as a form of dialogue of understanding so that partygoers are more informed about what to expect from the event. So you would have to:
1. Fill out the questionnaire,
2. Create your Bio
3. THEN you're able to register projects and buy tickets (on sales days).

Burners are also able to register today to do: projects, theme camps, artwork, mutant vehicles, and performances. You may also apply for a social grant.

There will be several parties leading up to the event - we'll be writing on them soon.

Seth Troxler: ‘It’s not all jokes – I’m not Steve Aoki’

$

Seth Troxler had some interesting things to say about DJ life in the latest Resident Advisor film. The film follows Seth Troxler as he tours around Europe and features Seth musing on various aspects of life as a DJ. Fans, love, partying, travelling, legacy – it’s a comprehensive look into the life of a major international DJ and renowned world talent.

On bad music: At Tomorrowland Seth joins revellers down on the dance floor and is less than impressed about the EDM soundtrack, “It bothers me listening to bad music. I’ve been calling that stuff recently, ‘sonic ear-rape’ – it’s like sonically raping my ears.”

On mental health: “Most DJs I know are either manic or total psychopaths, especially the bigger DJs”

On love: Seth highlights how juggling love and the jet-setting DJ life style is difficult, “It’s hard to get enough time that someone needs to feel the right amount of love. To really give someone emotionally what they need – you can’t be there.”

On being taken seriously: “Sometimes I am a bit bothered by how people perceive me because they just think I’m some jokester”

“It’s not all jokes, I’m not Steve Aoki

On legacy: “DJing is a funny thing, it’s a bit like sports. Maybe I’ll make a bit of money on it, but at the end of the day you can only do it for a certain amount of years and then what do you do after life as a DJ?”

“I’m really concerned about legacy. I really have this dream – I kind of want to be a bit like Laurent Garnier, you know? Laurent Garnier is a guy I have the utmost respect for because he’s taken his career and done it on his own terms and there’s other DJs who have made choices that are maybe ruining their legacy in the future.”

“10 more years of Seth and then I’ll be gone.”

Cold Turkey Re-Launches At New Venue

New Cold Turkey: Double-Stage Delight In City Heights

$

Capetonians’ old Sunday friend Cold Turkey will be re-opening at a new rooftop venue on 30 November. The Cold Turkey parties, also known as ‘Cold Turks’, have been legendary among locals for years, and have, over the last two years, become known throughout the country (and overseas to some extent) as wild adventures for the restless among us. While Cape Town is known for its laid back nature on a Sunday, the popularity of the party has proven that there are enough Sunday party animals in the city to create a small town.

Cold Turkey has taken place in various places over the years; from its humble and raw beginnings at a rail-side Woodstock bar, to its expanded and braai-vibing Greenpoint venue, to its recent boom at The Train Lodge, it now moves to a rooftop venue in the centre of town, the parking lot above the Grand Central Shopping Centre. The designated space includes the covered floors of the parking lot (not only the roof), so when weather is nasty on the roof the party will simply move a floor down.

Check out their first teaser video:  Post by Cold Turkey. They are also tired of people coming and going in their cars, so the new rules are that you will not be permitted re-entrance if you leave... see below...

From now on, there will be two stages. The 12 hour event will be launching 22 acts, to be announced shortly, and is known for hosting some of the best electronic acts in different genres in the country, such as Niskerone, Jakobsnake, Mix 'n Blend, Oh Dark Arrow, and more, while offering an opening slot or two to developing names and always including divserity. As they say: ‘South Africa has been bursting at the seems with new talent since we started back in 2010, so we figured how else could we give everyone a fair shot at this, while staying true to our sound? One thing won't change though, and that’s our intensely eclectic line ups, with the main focus always being on the bass side of the frequency charts’.

A new (interesting) development is an invitation to bring your own bottle of booze (one per person), although there will still be bars for those of us a little less organised or a little more thirsty. There will be plenty of foodstalls, as well as games and activities.

Tickets are R97 Super Early Bird on Sunday, R138 online on Webtickets and at selected shops, and R190 at the door. Check out the Cold Turkey Facebook page for more.

Adelaide's Best Nightclub Closes

In some sad and unexpected news, Adelaide's Cuckoo Bar, arguably the city's best nightclub, has closed.

As Resident Advisor reports, the Hindley Street club closed suddenly following a dispute with the building's landlord, with the final party being held over the weekend on Saturday, November 15th.

Speaking to the mag, Cuckoo's owner Phil Rogers said that some of his best memories of the club "were the nights where I got to play marathon sets after close, always till the sun came up, and often for nine-plus hours. It would only be a handful of people dancing. These sets to people who were locked into the vibe were unmatchable, when they allowed you to take them wherever you wanted to go."

During its run Cuckoo played host to international DJs such as DJ Koze, Tama Sumo, Pépé Bradock, Eli Verveine and Mathew Jonson.

Aaron Smiles

Having played more festivals and clubs than some punters would have had hot dinners, Aaron Smiles is an integral part of the Australian scene. Aaron's philosophy on music is simple, he just wants to free everyone up.
Let go of the genre, let go of what you think is 'cool' or 'un-cool' and let go of your ego.
Aaron just wants you to dance and have as much fun as he is having.
Whether it's driving techno, funky electro, atmospheric trance or spacious chill and dub, it's this philosophy that sees Aaron traverse through the whole gamut of electronic music styles (often in one set) and allows him to be programmed for practically any DJ set at a party.
Earning his stripes with over two decades of DJing experience and amassing a legion of loyal followers in the process, Aaron was recently given the duty of mixing the psytrance component of Earthcore's 2014 CD.

Trent McDermott

A decade long veteran of the Australian scene, the sounds may have changed but the quality has always remained. Currently pushing the sounds coming out of the Progressive House, Deep House and Techno camps, Trent has always strived to push the proverbial envelope. Gaining critical acclaim in his hometown of Melbourne, the DJ and producer has found favour with punters and DJs alike, regularly travelling around Australia and overseas to deal his blend of musical mischief. As a further feather in his cap, the techno and progressive disc of the Earthcore 2014 CD has been mixed by Trent and is a monster. You won't want to miss what he pumps out in the Aussie bush!

Sunshine

Melbourne DJ legend Sunshine says her sets are all about "fun". Earning her stripes in a myriad of different spaces around town, she's created a sound that is truly her own. What gives her the edge is sheer versatility – you're just as likely to hear bleeding-edge techno alongside tech house, house and disco all in the space of one beer. Hapno is the sound and it sure ain't coming from anyone else. Sunshine has a cult following around town and her festival sets are something special... don't miss it!

Simon Slieker

Another veteran with an infectious enthusiasm and a drive for perfection, Slieker is back after a huge set on the Monster Main Stage in 2013. A vinyl exponent at heart, Simon Slieker keeps an eye to the horizon, which has seen him invest heavily in the emergent dj technologies of the digital domain. Yet year 2013 saw a polar shift. A trend from the boutique artists and labels toward limited press, vinyl only releases, giving the medium a potent shot in the arm. A refreshing alternative to the ubiquitous, universally available and often disposable, rank of digital files. This has proved too hard for Slieker to resist, inspiring a re-energized vinyl focus. The sense of journey he creates as a dj is indicative of this: insistent and intense yet sensitive to the subtle textures which allow breath. The through line, a mesmerising and hypnotic drive.

Mish'Chief

Melbourne based Dance Floor Warrior, Promoter and DJ, Mish'Chief is respected by peers and punters for her an unwavering commitment to delivering a quality underground. Mish'Chief draws on a wide range of music influences from punk, blues and rock and a history of loving, listening and playing tunes including techno, progressive and deep house. Mish'Chief's trademark and immediately recognisable sound is staunch, combining tough, driving bass lines, and menacing rhythms with dark sexy vocals. After tearing the Monster Main Stage apart last year, Mish'Chief has unfinished business and will be back to unleash hell!

Ben Evans

Hydra hero and psychedelic dance floor devotee, Ben Evans is a regular fixture on the chunkiest of lineups in Australia and abroad. Ben's performance style combines influences of tribal, percussive, progressive and organic sounds driven by slamming drums and psychedelic groove, fine-tuned to tickle your 3rd eye with magical precision. With it fused together in one sweeping mix of styles, colours and sounds in an atmospheric, earthly environment he transforms his audience into a united rhythmic movement. Make your morning even more magical by heading down to Ben's set!

Handsdown

Amongst a sea of seasoned veterans, young Geelong lad Handsdown stepped up to the Monster Main Stage in 2013 and in just two short hours, turned the heaving dance floor on its head. Melbourne's crown prince of dance, his unique blend of techno has kept revellers on their toes at some of the biggest clubs across Oz, as well as a successful tour of Auckland's premium drinking holes. With an astronomical explosion onto the scene, a list of gigs longer than your arm and a unbridled passion for his craft, Handsdown is one to watch and his set simply cannot be missed!

JPA

Jean Paul Adolphe is Mauritian born electronic music producer who moved to Australia to pursue his passion for creative arts. Having already ticked so many boxes in his career to date JPA has made a habit of melding his influences together to create a totally unique sound that simultaneously nods homage to the masters of house whilst infusing the power of techno. A recent signing to Steve Ward's label Chameleon Records plus an extensive tour schedule has seen JPA make his mark with a bright future ahead!

Safari

Safari grew up in the south of Madrid. The heart of the Spanish people and oddly enough started his djing career with his father's records recording tapes for local house parties, it wasn't too long before the early sounds of techno caught his ears. After a few years between Australia and Spain, Safari finally made his way to Australia and within no time he was warming-up or closing down sets for the biggest names in the business. With a keen ear for musical magic, a passion for perfection and a recent foray into production, the Safari story will continue to be written with exciting endeavours on the horizon!

Katie Drover

Every weekend DJ Katie Drover sits comfortably at the controls in one of Melbourne's thriving clubbing spots with the dancefloor hanging on her every move. Not bad for a player who spends her days working as a mathematician. Katie Drover has been a constant source of inspiration and excitement for the Australian scene over many years and continues to captivate all who witness her sets. Few would disagree that the sky's the limit for Katie Drover. With production being next on her list of things to conquer, her determination to succeed will no doubt see her continue to break boundaries on and off the dance floor.

Watch: ‘Surrender’ - Portable AKA Bodycode

Portable AKA Bodycode (Alan Abrahams) has been in motion his whole life—growing up in South Africa, coming of age in London, decamping to Lisbon before finally settling in Berlin—and his deeply syncopated brand of electronic dance music has evolved with every step of the journey. His formative years were spent in an impoverished Cape Town township ironically tagged “Beverly Hills”, and to the backbeat of the first wave of Chicago house records he emerged out of the ruins of a post-apartheid South Africa. As Bodycode, Abrahams harnesses his desire to “unlock the psyche via the body,”. layering tech-funk with wisps of melody, heady effects, and a liberal wash of otherworldly vocal samples.

‘Surrender’ has just been released on Live At Robert Johnson, and on vinyl on Boomkat. Portable went on a trip through Cappadocia, a historical region in Central Anatolia in Turkey, where he filmed this ethereal video. It layers tech-funk with wisps of melody, heady effects, and his emotive voice.

Portable also created an Instagram diary of the process of video, including photos and diary notes, on Inverted Audio. You can check it out here

Live At Robert Johnson is an intimate club with its own record label based in Frankfurt. They do 12-inches and albums as well as a run of mix CDs that wrapped up in 2011. They have released records from Massimiliano Pagliara, Roman Flügel, Arto Mwambe, Dixon and many more. Boomkat have been building up a huge resource of music that exists beyond the radar. They cover the most underground forms of electronic music, hip hop, post-folk, IDM, electro, micro-house, Detoit techno, and a wealth of other genres in the electronic and rock/contemporary sphere.

Listen to Ricardo Villalobos' Huge 32-Minute Remix of 'What Is House Muzik'

Ricardo Villalobos is many things to techno fans, but perhaps most of all, he's divisive. At least these days, anyway.

While no one denies his impact on the scene, he's one of the few that can cause friends who agree on just about everything, musically speaking, to suddenly stand faithfully strong on either side of the line.

Some say he's a genius. Others, well, not so much. And Villalobos' new half an hour remix of DJ Pierre is hardly going to do anything to help that.

Though the Chilean-born master is no stranger to long tracks, turning Mari Kvien Brunvoll’s ‘Everywhere You Go' into a 28-minute trip, and his own 2006 single ‘Fizheuer Zieheuer’ finished at a whopping 37 minutes.

Now he takes on DJ Pierre's 1994 classic "What Is House Muzik," turning the upbeat original into a warped, bubbling 32-minute journey through the mind. Listen below.

The Ricardo Villalobos remix of "What Is House Muzik" from DJ Pierre is available now via Get Physical.

Clement Phaswane is DJ, producer, and remixer Trancemicsoul who took the SonarDome dancefloor in Spain by storm, filling it to the brim from 400 to 5000 with his DJ set last year, and ending with raucous applause.

Trancemicsoul takes cues from jazz, downtempo, hip hop, kwaito, broken beats, lounge and electronic sounds. Behind the decks, Clement showcases a superb deep and soulful house selection. This is a free download mix which was made for mega station 5fm last week.

A participant at the 2013 edition of the Red Bull Music Academy in New York, Trancemicsoul was selected from their alumni to play the SonarDome stage at the 2014 Sonar Festival in Barcelona, and has also played at their do-over special in New York, representing South Africa.

Here we go folks! Check out the link here: TRANCEMICSOUL - SATURDAY NIGHT FIX (5FM) - PLAY/ DOWNLOAD

Trancemicsoul's words after rocking the Red Bull Music Academy stage at the Sonar Festival in 2014: “It was such a humbling moment! A moment I will never forget. It was not easy to deal with the fact that most people prefer live acts than just DJ’s, and to see the SonarDome filling almost to its maximum capacity with just a DJ set was amazing. I could feel that it was not me playing but the spirit, a special place in my soul. Never ever in my life, after playing a set, have I received such an applause from such a huge number of people – that’s when I realised the moment and spiritual connection was indeed real, and I’m thankful for that' (Don't Party).

You can catch Trancemicsoul at Park Acoustics in Jozi, and at the upcoming Sonar Cape Town festival.
