Listen To Music Made By Aphex Twin's 6-Year Old Son

0
0

In a recent Rolling Stone interview electronic music genius Aphex Twin claimed that his six-year old son is already following in his Dad's footsteps and creating his own tracks. Yes you heard that age correctly - six. According to Richard D James, the chip off the old block has already made an album on Renoise and published it on Bandcamp.

"He was five when he did most of it and all," James claims, “and I never showed him a thing, he worked it all out himself, mind boggling.”

Of course the problem with all this, as most Aphex Twin fans will already know, is that the UK producer has a long history of fucking with both the media and his fans, and in another interview with Noyzelab he claims to not have children at all. So what's true and what is fiction I guess we'll never truly know. You'll just have to listen below and make your own judgement.

Tripswitch Mixes Pulse.197

0

English downtempo producer Nick Brennan, better known to the electronic world as Tripswitch, has mixed this week's podcast Pulse.197.

One of the scene's most in-demand remixers, Brennan has lent his adept hand to the likes of Nick Warren, The Orb and Way Out West. With a new album on a progressive and deep house tip coming up under his birth name, we asked the long-standing producer to contribute a mix to our series, and he's turned in a set that gives a flavour of his live sets consisting of unreleased cuts and remixes of Liquid Soul, William Orbit and Cocteau Twins.

Enjoy!

DOWNLOAD PULSE.197 HERE

What's been happening for you on the production front this year? After several years spent mainly remixing other people’s stuff, I’ve finally written a new album. It's going to be the first under my real name. It has a bit of a different direction to the Tripswitch stuff and represents the refinement of the progressive / deep house sound that I’ve been developing with some of these recent remixes. I’m super happy with how it’s turned out, it’s something I’ve wanted to write for years and is right where I’m at musically right now. I came to the psy-trance scene and downtempo via prog house in the first place, so it’s kind of full circle for me.

I’ve had a few releases come out this year. Recently the ‘Propulsion EP’ on my label Section Records, which is four mid-tempo tracks which I’ve been playing out in my live sets over the past couple of years, and a remix of Seb Dhajje’s brilliant ‘Fifth Season' on his new label Otrement. There’s another remix I did of US dark wave act Noir which is coming out in November, and in December Section are releasing a single from one of our acts Aurtas from Japan, with a Codemonkey remix from me (my bass music / D&B experimental project), along with remixes from Section artist Audioglider and C23 (Seb Taylor / KayaProject). I also collaborated with Nanoplex earlier in the year for their debut album ‘The Billion Dollar Brain’, and have been working with Grant Collins (Darshan / Excession) down at his studio too.

Where will you be spending NYE? Actually I’m staying put this year. I’ll be down with you guys in Australia for the second half of November, then back on the road in Central and South America in February, so I’m gonna make the most of some quality time with the family while I can.

Can you tell us about he mix you've recorded for us? The idea was to give you a flavour of my live sets by playing some of the more obscure or unreleased tracks that I tend to throw in there to make my sets special. I’m obviously known for my chill out productions, but I like to go more mid-tempo when I play live, create a journey that builds energy in the space and puts a smile on people’s faces. There are some more obscure remixes from Kaya Project, Indra J, Symbolic & Liquid Soul, William Orbit and my Talk Talk / Cocteau Twins mashup. The last two are available as free downloads from my soundcloud. There’s a track from Propulsion on there, and a couple of sneak previews of tracks from the Nick Brennan album.

Nick Warren is a big fan of your productions and had used many of them in his mix CDs. Have you guys ever met? Yeah absolutely! I even had the privilege of DJing back to back with him last year, which was a bit of a 'pinch myself' moment. We may have another one lined up for next summer in the UK. Nick’s a top bloke, super down to earth with a darling missus and his support and advice has really meant a lot to me over the years. I’m gonna be doing a remix of a track from the forthcoming Way Out West album next year too. I’m really psyched about that.

You're playing Earthcore festival in Australia soon. What can fans expect from your set and what are you looking forward to most about visiting Australia? Well the podcast should give you a taste. Expect strong melodies, good energy and the opportunity to dance at a more laid back pace than the trance floor! Really stoked to be coming back to Oz, my last party was Rainbow Serpent in 2013 which was hands down one of the best festival experiences of my career. The Aussies sure know how to party! I've heard great things about Earthcore and I’m expecting something pretty special, plus I’m going to have a few more days around the festival to explore than the last time I was there, which is great. A shame to fly half way round the world and hop straight on a plane home afterwards. See you a in a few weeks Melbourne!

WATCH: Toya DeLazy’s Juicy New Video

The new South African princess of street hip-hop, Toya DeLazy, presents us with a new album, as well as a music video for her single ‘Forbidden Fruit’, and the result is purely juicy.

Filled with bright colours in both the visuals and the music, the whole package works as a satisfying dish of her raw but somehow simultaneously pretty style.

The Sony-signed artist had big success with her debut studio album, ‘Due Drop’, supported by the singles ‘Pump It On’, ‘Love Is in the Air’, ‘Are You Gonna Stay?’, ‘Heart’ and ‘Memoriam’. Delazy took home the awards for Newcomer of the Year and Best Pop Album at the SAMAs last year, and had a major impact on the South African top 40 radio with the release of her aforementioned singles.

This is an artist to watch and we are excited to check out her new album – check back for our review.

Top 10 November – Berlin

0
0

With the Ibiza season behind us, we turn our attention to some of Europe's other clubbing hotspots for the winter. And where better than the capital of underground techno? This month sees several huge label nights come to Berlin, including mobilee, Diynamic and Drumcode, as well as a few Detroit pioneers, and an album release party – all among the month's best.

 photo blackline2_zps37b5f386.jpg

10. Other People at Salon Zur Wilden Renate – 13 November

Expect a night of deep, emotional vibes from Nico Jaar’s label mates Valentin Stip, who released his debut album, ‘Sigh,’ this year, along with one half of Darside, Dave Harrington, and Visuals.

9. Suol Mates at Watergate – 22 November

Eschewing the sound typically associated with Berlin – cold, heads down techno – Soul bosses Chopstick & Jon Jon bring warm, summery house to Watergate this month, with label mates Andre Lodemann, Tender Games, and Meggy. But the real treat of the night is headliner Black Coffee, the South African star who’s seen a huge burst onto the world stage as of late.

8. Diynamic Showcase at Ritter Butzke – 8 November

While Diynamic boss Solomun won’t be along for this showcase, with live performances by David August, Adriatique, Kollektiv Turmstrasse and Stimming, and DJ sets from DJ Phono, Karmon, NTFO, Thyladomid Magdalena and more all set at the intimate and unique Ritter Butzke, you can be sure this will be a night not to miss.

7. BPitch Nacht at Watergate – 7 November

After several lauded shows at Circoloco this summer, Ellen Allien continues to right high, bringing her BPitch label to Watergate for a label takeover with Argy, System Of Survival and a live show from Marc Houle.

6. Klubnacht - Drumcode Total at Berghain/Panorama Bar – 22 November

Adam Beyer and his Drumcode label have had an exceedingly good year. Beyer was one of the highlights at Cocoon Ibiza this season, having shifted to a slightly groovier, house inspired sound as of late. But he still knows how to bring the techno, and along with the likes of Len Faki, Nicole Moudaber, Alan Fitzpatrick and Dustin Zahn, Berghain will once again be in Drumcode’s capable hands for the night.

5. Watergate Nacht at Watergate – 21 November

While the Ibiza season is fading further and further into memory, Berlin is there to pick up where the White Isle left off. And with a line-up that includes Âme, Tiefschwarz (Ali), Santé, and Alex Niggemann it might just be another night at Watergate, but damned if it doesn’t get us excited.

4. Detroit with Derrick May, Moodymann & Kenny Larkin at Arena Club – 29 November

Three Detroit legends will do what they do best at the intimate Arena Club. Enough said. Support from GummiHz, Christian Vance, Discrete Circuit and more.

3. Mobilee at Watergate – 8 November

Having also seen a huge 2014, Anja Schneider and mobilee can count an Ibiza residency, an Essential Mix, several powerhouse releases (including the forthcoming Maya Jane Coles EP) and another huge OFF Week amongh accomplishments so far. Now the team, which includes Rodriguez Jr., Re.You, Lee Van Dowski, And.Id,, Ranacat and Ralf Kollmann take over Watergate for one night only.

2. Klubnacht - Power Of Anonymity Release Party at Berghain/Panorama Bar – 8 November

Steffi returned to her roots for her forthcoming album, ‘Power Of Anonymity,’ and for her record release party in Panorama bar brings an utter powerhouse line-up along to celebrate. Guests include Traxx, as well as Dexter and Seven Davis Jr, who’ll both play live, with the likes of Boris, DJ Hell, Kenny Larkin, DJ Rolando and Octave One playing Berghain. This will be a huge night.

1. Odd Fantastic at Stattbad – 8 November

The simple fact that the dance floor of Stattbad is inside of a large swimming pool might be enough to entice certain club goers to queue up. Add to it sets from DJ Sprinkles, Beautiful Swimmers, White Material boss DJ Richard, and Brooklyn visual artist Aurora Halal, and you have a recipe for something truly special. Other guests include Konstantin and Christopher Rau.

Dave Seaman 'Justified Replacement Of Lulu' North American Tour

0

For the first time in over five years, Dave Seaman will be embarking on a full blown North American tour this November. Taking in performances in Mexico City, Toronto, Chicago, San Francisco, L.A, Orlando, Miami and Monterrey, Seaman will be re-connecting with American audiences throughout the continent.

Despite having highfalutin notions of becoming a disc jockey from an early age, David Seaman’s achievements have far surpassed his ambitions somewhere along the Acid House Superhighway that is his life today having first joined DMC as a fresh-faced teenager from Leeds in October 1987.

Sparked by his experience at August’s Burning Man Festival in Nevada, Dave is raring to explore America’s underground club network once again. Starting in Toronto on November 1st, the tour will see him hit seven big cities over three weekends throughout the month, rounding things off in Monterrey on November 15th.

Seaman said, "For one reason or another I've not really DJ'd too much in America in the last few years. I've done the odd weekend here and there but nothing major. So I thought it was about time I rectified that. BurningMan was the catalyst. I had such an amazing time there and it reminded me just how great US audiences can be. So I'm renewing my visa and I'm damn well going to make as much use of it as possible!"

The tour will be preceded by a remix EP of Dave's releases for Tulipa Recordings entitled 'The Three Ghosts' EP featuring remixes of Dave's tracks by D Nox & Beckers, Dousk, Kaiser Souzai & Alex Young and followed soon after by Dave's release for his own Selador imprint 'Justified Replacement Of Lulu' which includes mixes from Cristoph, Joeski, Raxon & Marc Marzenit.

A remix EP of Dave’s tracks are out now on Tulipa Records. Check them out below:

Movement Torino: In Review

0
0

Movement Torino is the European version of the Movement Detroit Electronic Music Festival, one of the USA’s most respected dance music festivals, specialising in house and techno. Derrick May, founder of the festival, launched Movement Europe in 2006 in northern Italy’s Turin in an attempt to bring the brand to a wider audience, and has since watched it snowball into the huge affair it is today.

 photo blackline2_zps37b5f386.jpg

Italy and Movement have a symbiotic relationship. Whilst Movement has earned a worldwide following from its move to Europe, it has also brought a much needed authenticity and seriousness to Italy’s dance music scene. One of the best dance events of the year in Italy, Movement Europe draws a varied crowd from the continent and beyond. This year was no exception, evident from the groups of foreigners visible in the city, the melange of languages overheard at industry events and the wide array of creative types present at the festival’s main event on Halloween.

The main event ran from 8pm to 6am at a huge conference centre in the middle of Turin, Ligotto Fierre, an ex-Fiat factory. Its warehouse feel perfectly suited the event’s Halloween vibe, its crowd dressed to kill, be their outfits glamorous, smart getups or dark-lipsticked witch costumes. The vibes were old-school, as drinkers coalesced with the more mind-altered of the lot to create a party with minimum inhibitions and maximum bonding, despite language barriers.

Moodymann played what was perhaps the standout set of the festival, bringing an ecstatic crowd to fanatical levels by 2am after dropping an hour and a half of driving, melodic house. He clashed with Skream, who blitzed the Yellow stage with a set that confirmed him as an assured voice in heavy, atmospheric house. David Squillace, Martin Buttrich and Matthias Tanzmann aced it as supergroup Better Lost Than Stupid, setting the tone somewhere between classic and experimental. Ellen Allien was another festival highlight, who took perhaps the prime slot in the gargantuan main room, accentuating her excellent DJing with brilliantly awkward dance moves.

Jeff Mills closed the Detroit stage, the festival’s acknowledgement of its origins, to the sound of screaming house fans that weren’t ready to accept the festival’s 6am closing time. The singularly great Steffi bopped enthusiastically to her tech-house set until 5am when most of the crowd flocked to Joseph Capriati, the festival’s biggest Italian producer. Representing local and national talent were the Blue and Torino rooms, which were heavily populated by well-dressed Italians.

The main event, along with the smaller events held leading up to the big day, its subsequent after party held nearby, and the closing party headlined by Kerri Chandler the next night, were all proof of the festival’s firm place in underground electronic music as a leader in the Italian scene and one to watch on the global scene. With its lineup expanding every year, Movement 2015 looks set to be another important mark on the calendar.
