It’s a busy time for the dance music world with several festivals like Ultra Japan and TomorrowWorld wrapping up and several big announcements being made by some of the industry’s biggest stars. In the last few days alone, Avicii, Calvin Harris, deadmau5, and Alesso have all revealed big plans for forthcoming album releases.

The follow up to Avicii’s ‘True’ will be called ‘Stories,’ and is set for release sometime next year. The album’s first single, “The Days,” which was previously previewed on his recent Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply campaign, will be out October 3rd. The Swedish sensation recently made headlines when he announced that he was cancelling all of his tour dates for the rest of the year to focus on his health.

Calvin Harris piqued his fans’ interest when he hinted on Twitter that he was working on a new album that would be out sometime before the year was over. Now, he’s revealed more detains about ‘Motion’ including a release date – November 4th. Both of his most recent hits, “Summer” and “Blame” (with vocals by John Newman) will be featured on the new release. In the mean time, be sure to check out his brand new $15 million LA mansion.

Following his successful ‘while (1<2)’ release, deadmau5 is working on a ‘5 Years of Mau5’ compilation that will feature remixes of his own tracks done by a hand selected group of artists including Eric Prydz, Nero, Madeon, Dillon Francis, and Pig and Dan. Keep your eye on Pulse for more details about the compilation as they become available.

Alesso shared some exciting news with UMF TV immediately following his set at Ultra Japan. It’s been a busy year for Alesso, who released his single “Tear the Roof Up” and announced that he was joining the Def Jam family. The new album will be out sometime in early 2015 with “Heroes” slated to be the first single.

Watch: Gatecrashers Storm The Fence At Australian Festival

Footage has emerged of a large group of gatecrashers rushing a fence at Australia's Listen Out festival in Sydney over the weekend, an incident which resulted in a security guard being hospitalised.

The incident - captured by a punter which you can watch below - shows a row of people running toward a security fence en masse and jumping over, with security guards running over in an attempt to stop them. According to a police statement, one guard suffered a ruptured spleen and internal bleeding after being trampled by one of the gatecrashers.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

Post by Chady Chokr.

“As the 29-year-old man was responding to the rush, he fell to the ground and a person landed heavily on his abdomen,” the statement explains. “The guard was able to walk to a stage area before collapsing… He is currently in a stable condition in hospital.”

It's a bit of a sad occurrence and definitely not in the spirit of what music festivals are all about. You can check out all the good times that were had at Listen Out Sydney with Flume, TEED, Chet Faker, Four Tet and more in our review.

Has this guy set a bad example?

SA's Culoe de Song releases new EP on Innervisions

Recent recipient of Metro FM Music Awards''Best Male Album 2014' for his LP "Exodus", South African DJ and producer Culoe de Song continues to grow from strength to strength within the global electronic, house, and afro-house circles. This October, Culoe releases a fresh offering by way of his latest EP on Innervisions titled, ‘Y.O.U.D’. Set for release on October 6, the EP has already generated widespread excitement both locally and abroad amongst fans and followers of the Berlin based imprint. De Song is also signed to Soulistic Music in South Africa, where he has a local fiercely devoted following.

The first ‘Y.O.U.D’ snippet released paints a rich tapestry from the get go, with strings and several instruments interweaving and building towards a drop we can only look forward to in the actual release. It’s clear that De Song has an instrumentalist's mind-set, with an innate instinct to explore instrumentation and rhythms of all kinds. Syncopation abounds.

In the second snippet, which is a little deeper, drums pop out in surprises here and there, holding the listener’s attention and keeping energy up.

We look forward to hearing what comes next.

Seed Experiences joins Bridges for Music for charity initiative

Seed Experiences is proud to announce a new partnership with musical charity Bridges for Music. Committing to partnering with Bridges for Music for the next twelve months across all Seed events, Seed Experiences plans to raise substantial funds through various means – one being the launch of its “Charity Complimentary Contributions Initiative”.

The initiative means all complimentary tickets will now be charged at a percentage of the actual ticket price across various ticket types and all of these funds will go straight to Bridges for Music. This will begin with Seed’s upcoming annual festivals Rocking the Daisies (Cape Town) and Vodacom In The City (Johannesburg).

“The people who generally receive comps to our music events are fans and people who can afford to pay the full ticket price. So paying a small amount, knowing that it is contributing to this great cause, which is directly related to music and growing the industry in South Africa, should be met with enthusiasm”, says Brian Little, Seed Experiences Managing Director.

Initially, the funds will assist Bridges for Music to build a music school in Langa Township in the Western Cape. This is already being helped along by the SAE scholarship programme and the Black Coffee Foundation. To date the bulk of the fundraising has been driven by the internationally renowned Resident Advisor platform but hopes to see the new collaboration inspire other South African companies to invest.

Chus & Ceballos Mix Pulse.192

Chus & Ceballos are pioneers of their own genre, Iberican Sound, their own breed of tech-house with Hispanic influences from their home peninsula in Spain. Hailing from Madrid, the duo is well-known for their original productions, popular remixes for artists like Madonna and Shakira, and their legendary marathon DJ sets, which they have played to fans all around the world.

We caught up with Chus & Ceballos after they returned from Burning Man to chat about some of their summer touring highlights, memorable moments from the playa, their first full-length album, their connection to the New York scene, and what else they’ve been up to recently. Download Pulse.192, their set from Electric Festival in Aruba, below.

DOWNLOAD PULSE.192

You’ve been having a busy summer playing all over Ibiza, the US and the rest of Europe. What were some of your favorite stops this summer? It’s difficult to pick just one. Blue Marlin Ibiza has been a real revelation; we found the perfect place for us where the energy of the people and the magic of the place have hooked us.

We also loved playing in Croatia. It was a fantastic party at Carpe Diem in Hvar Island. We felt a great potential over there to grow up and evolve as another big summer spot in the Mediterranean, and of course we can’t forget to mention our life-changing experience at Burning Man in Black Rock City in the Nevada desert - it was one for the books!

You’re fresh from Burning Man – what was it like on the Playa this year? Tell us about your most memorable experience. Burning Man was one of the best experiences we’ve had in years. You can’t compare it with another musical festival because BM is not a regular musical festival. It’s more than that - the location, the concept and the entire vibe you experience on the playa is unique and genuine. Anybody that went to BM can tell you how amazing the experience is with all that art happening in the middle of the desert in such a huge open space like the playa - the art vehicles, the crazy people and their outfits, the sunrise and the sunset in the desert, and the great parties with ridiculous set ups and sound systems. The best time we had was when we performed at Distrikt camp. It was unreal; we have no words to describe it. You have to experience it!

We hear you’re working on your first full-length album. How has the production process been? We approached it from several points. We wanted to remake some of our classics, bringing them back to life with new versions. Other tracks are originals and some others are re-interpretations of songs that stand out and marked our career. There are also a few vocal songs, something we are missing these days in electronic underground music. Some people have forgotten the power of a song and its message. After many months working on it, we are about to finalize it so we hope to present our new baby before the end of the year.

What has been inspiring you both lately? We feel very lucky because we have the chance to play all over the world. It's truly inspiring to play in so many countries with such different cultures because we are heavily influenced by our trips and performances - we are always learning! We love to play music and explore different styles, and to do it for such a wide audience gives us the freedom to experience new sounds and learn from the feedback. We always try to listen to our favorite artists and to pay attention to the resident DJs wherever we travel. You can get a lot of inspiration from other artists. Another inspirational source is always to listen to other music genres, not only electronic dance music. We pick up great ideas that you wouldn’t expect.

What has been the most challenging aspect of making this album? We’ve been releasing singles and remixing artists of all kinds for over 15 years, but we never spent the necessary time to work on a full album before. We felt that now is the time for making a complete LP. Starting from scratch was a real challenge and it was a pleasant surprise how fast it flowed when so many good ideas came to our minds. It was also very challenging to make studio collaborations. Working with singers and other producers, you always reach the different aspects of your creativity, and we love the teamwork in the studio with other musicians.

Although neither of you live in NYC, you have a close network of friends here and mentors here like Danny Tenaglia. Do you plan on collaborating with anyone on this album? Yes we have a great chemistry with NY people and have had a solid connection with their artists since the very beginning of our musical career. The NY scene was very inspirational for us and still is so you can always find a remarkable New York influence in our music. Yes of course, we have a few tracks on the album with NY artists. For now it’s a state secret, but we're going to reveal it very soon.

Tell us a bit about the approach you took to making this podcast and your radio shows. Chus had his radio show for more than nine years, and we thought it would be great to join forces and do it together. Now we're both focused on it and the results are pretty amazing. We’ve realized that what people like the most is our live sets from the clubs and parties we make around the world, so we are putting all our efforts in bringing those sets on a regular basis plus presenting our upcoming releases, remixes and compilations and having some guest DJs mixtapes every two weeks - music from artists that we like and respect or that we find interesting for our fans. We believe this is the perfect complement to the show and a great way to discover new talents giving them the opportunity to be exposed. It’s the weekly gift to our fans!

What else is on the horizon for Chus & Ceballos? As soon as we finish the album, we’ll be focused on its presentation, promotion of the singles and the album tour, and of course to deliver the remix package duties. Party wise, we are going to have the official Stereo Productions label showcase at ADE 2014 in October 15th and The BPM Festival in Mexico on January 9th, 2015.

Steve Aoki Files Cease & Desist Order Against Wunderground

Apparently not one to take a joke, Steve Aoki and his legal team have issued a cease & desist order to popular satire website Wunderground, who have targeted everyone from Tiesto and David Guetta to Richie Hawtin and Tale of Us in their well-written (and hilarious) articles poking fun at the EDM industry.

Wunderground broke character and got serious for a second following news of Aoki’s lawsuit. Mikey Maguire, CEO of Wunderground, revealed that the cake-throwing DJ is trying to sue them for a t-shirt that they never actually created (although they did have a Kickstarter campaign running). He believes that Aoki has no legal ground to stand on.

This isn’t the first time that Wunderground has received legal backlash. Remember when David Guetta threatened to sue the website after an article went up entitled ‘David Guetta Left Red Faced Following Pre-Recorded Set Gaffe’?

Read Wunderground's amazing response to Steve Aoki on their website.

It's The Ship's Lineup Grows Even Bigger

The Livescape Group have announced some huge headliners for It's the Ship - Asia's biggest festival at sea. With a lineup that already includes Chvrches, Alex Metric and Aeroplane, this latest instalment fills the bill for the world's most festive ferry ride.

Topping the bill are UK legends Basement Jaxx. One of the world's most celebrated electronic artists, Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe join the 'It's the Ship' lineup in DJ set form. The 'Where's Your Head At?' duo will take audiences through a set of dancefloor bangers and electronic classics - with few of their own tracks thrown in for good measure.

Everyone's favourite party starter Lil Jon joins 'It's the Ship' to do what he does best. The dreadlocked MC will host a special beach party on the island of Langkawi, giving punters a chance to get their feet moving back on land.

Dutch trance trio Dash Berlin have also been added to the lineup. The dream team of Jeffrey Sutorius, Eelke Kalberg and Sebastian Moljin have been lighting up dance-floors around the world for over ten years, and will no doubt do the same aboard 'The Voyager of the Seas'.

Aly & Fila round out the final announcement. With their third album 'The Other Shore' soon to be released, keep an ear out for some new trance flavours from the Egyptian pair.

"We are extremely proud to announce our full lineup and we hope the fans are excited as well. This is one event you don't want to miss" explained Muhammad Iqbal, Group Chief Officer for The Livescape Group.

The event takes place aboard a luxury cruise liner, 'The Voyager of the Seas'. Over 5 epic days, the ship will travel across the Malacca Strait in Singapore to the Langkawi Islands in Malaysia. The boat sets sail November 21st, docking on the 25th.

Akin - Ghost Orchid EP

Akin
Ghost Orchid EP
Apollo

10/10

Always on the forward-thinking tip, Belgian label Apollo introduce yet another newcomer, Akin, whose music fits in perfectly with the label’s love of blissful electronica, future garage and textured soundscapes.

‘Satori’ opens the EP with lush chords, echoed field recordings and some beautiful piano improvisation. The crisp, tight beats which join the fray contrast nicely with the heavily reverbed melodic elements of the tune and the spacious atmospherics that fill out this wonderful slice of chilled-out electronica.

On ‘Koroko’, a collaboration with 3rdeye, we’re treated to some excellent half-time drum & bass vibes that have just the right amount of dancefloor crunch while still retaining warmth and head-swimming beauty. The gritty, woolly bassline, chunky kicks and shuffly, almost schizophrenic percussion keep the track’s energy up while beautiful melodic washes, organic sounds and flute samples give ‘Koroko’ a meditative, intelligent edge.

Future garage vibes are the order of the day on the short but sweet ‘Monotone’. I’m going to go out on a limb and say the title is a cheeky joke, but this tune is anything but. The deep, stripped-back 2-step beat and twisted, dark bassline are offset by plenty of subtle pads, heady washes and even a catchy acid line which has a strong psychedelic edge to it. ‘Monotone’ could go on for another 10 minutes and still not get boring.

‘Atman’ takes things in a darker, more traditional dubstep direction, quite heavily contrasting the warmth and blissfulness of the tracks that have come before. But what does remain is that same heady, spacious feeling. The heavy sub bass growls, twisted, nightmarish synth stabs and chunky beats which give the track its darker edge are offset by echoed metallic drones, glitchy bleeps and forlorn wind instruments which make ‘Atman’ more than just your average dancefloor pressure.

If the EP wasn’t enough of a trip so far, then let ‘Unified Fields’ send you to whatever exists beyond our physical realm. Full of warbly, psychedelic sounds and effects, loads of tape delay and reverb, sparse, unobtrusive beats and layers upon layers of pads, atmospherics and engulfing bass washes, this is about as close to as you’ll get to understanding what acid feels like without taking the stuff.

‘Ghost Orchid’ rounds out the EP on a high note, returning to the future garage vibe, but sounding entirely different from its genre counterpart ‘Monotone’. This one is all about making you feel good with its simple, stripped-back beats, horn samples, rising pads and sparkly melodies that sound like how stars would talk to each other if they had mouths. Oh and that vocal. Oh my, that vocal.

This is intelligent, futuristic music at its very best.

Tracklist:
1. Satori
2. Koroko
3. Monotone
4. Atman
5. Unified Fields
6. Ghost Orchid
