Sven Vath Returns to ENTER.

0
0

ENTER. is a unique clubbing experience and one of the few parties that truly reinvent the club to create a wondrous feast for the senses. Visually, the clean-cut minimalistic aesthetic and strictly monochrome colour scheme add the strongest elements of style and design with Hawtin’s vision clear from the outset.

ENTER. produces a genuinely bespoke clubbing experience that not many other contemporaries can offer. Combine these stunning elements with the futuristic sound of Space and you’ve got a party of other-worldly proportions. The other-worldly nature of Thursday’s party was heightened to its maximum potential with the arrival of Ibiza’s techno lord, Sven Vath.

Early on, Claude Von Stroke was treating the Terrace crowd to his music that was undeniably of his own brand. Bumping through his energetic set, the big man gave a collection of music that was packed full of bold, chunky beats and infectious dance floor cuts.

It take long before the pull of the Discoteca could be felt though – as if those giant Funktion One stacks were magnets, pulling us ever closer to the music. Again we found ourselves weaving our way to the back of the DJ booth to snap some photos as so many people clamoured to be behind Richie at the end of his set. Richie completed his set with Recondite’s floating ‘Caldera’ before embraces were exchanged and the responsibility was passed over to ENTER.’s enormously special guest.

Sven truly is a master of the epic techno journey and here we were locked in for the long ride with our favourite German maestro. Beginning with a typically murky array of selections, Sven kept proceedings deep and jacking early on. Swung rhythms played a huge part in Sven’s opening salvo of tracks, with the breathy distant vocal of DJ Koze’s remix of ‘Bad Kingdom’ pounding from the Funktion Ones. Without doubt one of the most effective and emotion filled tracks of the summer – that bass line does untold things on the dance floor.

These jacking rhythms instilled the groove in all of us as Sven ever so slowly tilted proceedings into peak-time direction with the raw power of De Sluwe Vos’ ‘The Bullet’ pounding throughout Space’s largest room. At this stage we were compelled to stay with Sven on his journey, unwilling to break the bond that he was slowly building. The swung percussion then began to make way for all-out pounding techno exercises – straight up stompers.

Subtle peaks and troughs shaped a persistence of monumental hair-raising moments that seemed to feel ever more euphoric with each passing. Sven would serve up deep heady swells of music, without a clap to be heard – just pure propulsive energy pouring from the German master and his two slabs of vinyl.

Friends left to go check out the Terrace, but I couldn’t leave, I didn’t want to break the solid connection that had been formed as another emotive break down led into the warm attack of Daniel Stefanik’s ‘Signs’.

The ups and downs of the set gave way for the hypnotic daze-inducing deep excursions that Papa Sven was laying down – each time he’d carefully give the revellers a breather before dropping the energy back onto the dance floor with perfect timing and skill.

Sven played the conductor in the booth, with some of his many followers crowded behind him – smiling as he dropped Alan Fitzpatrick’s huge ‘Truant’ and segueing into the euphoric, almost trance-like ‘Canvas’ by Timmo. These moments become some of Sven’s finest, most memorable and most joyous – when huge swathes of glittering synth melody wash over the room as a complete musical manifestation of our elated states of mind. Similarly Gregor Tresher’s ‘About A Good Place’ served as a colourful and blissed-out piece of dance floor fare, ideally suited the jubilant situation.

Shimmering confetti and icy explosions from the CO2 cannons almost snapped us back to reality as the atmosphere became more heady, more hedonistic and more mind-altering.

With the hours shooting by, we were left in the early hours of the morning to contemplate our good fortune at being guided through a euphoric techno epic by the ultimate techno DJ on the White Isle. Ibiza, Sven and Space came together to form one of those special White Isle moments we will cherish for years to come.

Claire Morgan Mixes Pulse.187

One of Australia's finest underground house and techno exports,Claire Morgan, steps up for podcast duties this week. Originally hailing from Brisbane, Claire has held down residencies in some of Australia's most respected clubs and played the best parties and festivals across the east coast, all while holding down a day job composing music for film and television.

Recently the self-confessed vinyl junkie packed her bags for the Berlin dream, and it's already starting to come true, with Morgan having played everywhere from Panorama Bar (where she is heading to again this weekend) and Tresor, to KaterHolzig and about:blank. And rightly so, as it's a city well known for recognising true talent.

You've recently relocated to Berlin. What's it like living there? You hear lots of mixed stories. To live in Berlin is to weather a perfect storm of extremes, sometimes this city lifts you so high with rose-tinted happiness and creative fulfilment, other times it pounds you so hard you’re gasping for air and wondering what the hell you’re doing here.

Berlin is undoubtedly the world’s epicentre of electronic music. It’s also the most competitive place on earth, the level and abundance of talent is insane. Despite this, it’s an oasis of calm in an increasingly ridiculous, social-media-driven industry. I adore the absence of hype and bullshit and I love that my achievements here are based on merit and not social media pages. No one cares what you look like, how many horny guys are following you on instagram or which famous dj/promoter/producer you banged last weekend. The people who stand out in Berlin are focussed, musically unique and highly skilled, and that’s the way I like it.

You've played Berghain/Panorama Bar a few times so far, right? How did that come to be? I played at the first Out of Focus in Melbourne with Efdemin a little while back, he liked my music and thought I was a good match for the club. I went there as soon as I moved to Berlin and instantly felt at home. Finally, here was the perfectly free and uncompromising musical environment I had been craving.

There was a funny moment when I first walked past all the Ostgut Ton releases at the entrance and realised the majority of them were in my record collection. I don’t pay nearly enough attention to artist names/labels (my brain recalls music/cover art) and the penny dropped as I was standing there staring up at all those record covers. Actually it was not so much a penny dropping as a crash cymbal falling on concrete. I also suddenly registered that Luke Slater’s “Symphony for the Surrealists,” which I had on repeat for days/weeks/months in 2007, was actually from the Berghain/Staattsballet collaboration ‘Shut up and Dance.’ It’s so strange to think my mind had been subconsciously anchored to this entity for so many years before connecting all the dots. Duh.

Anyway, my first gig in Panorama Bar was a Klubnacht in January and I am beyond happy and excited to be back there again this coming weekend!

 photo ClaireMorganPrague_zps05c271ef.jpg

Where else have you been playing in Berlin and where is your favourite club to play at? Berlin has so many great clubs, I’ve also played at about:blank, Tresor, Berghain Kantine, Sisyphos, Chalet, Suicide Circus, Kater Holzig. Panorama Bar is hands down my favourite, about:blank and Sisyphos are also standouts, and Globus (the main room at Tresor) has this insanely nice new DJ booth with shiny red Void speakers. One of those booths you never want to get out of. Outside of Berlin, Culture Box in Copenhagen is a beautiful creature.

Can you tell us about the mix you've recorded for us? It’s been an unconventional European Summer, out of necessity I took a couple of months off DJing, renovated my new apartment and built a studio. This mix was recorded on the first morning I was able to roll out of bed and roll straight into the studio. I grabbed a handful of my latest favourite purchased and promo records, cleared my mind and this is what came out.

It’s almost all vinyl, there’s some CD action at the start and finish as I needed to do some re-pitching to match some tricky keys. Included are my usual favourites Fred P, Levon Vincent, Steve Rachmad, Steven Tang, Efdemin, Omar S and Luke Hess, Shed, DVS1, some killer upcoming releases on Forbidden Planet, Naif, Solid Groove and Pomelo, classic bleep techno on Sahko, and a brilliant and beautiful remix at the end by The Borderline State. I am going to high-five that guy repeatedly if we ever meet, this remix has really inspired me.

What's coming up from you production wise?
About four years ago, while I was knee-deep in composing for film and television, my buddies at Haul Music in Melbourne asked me do a remix. The result was a joyful outpouring of fun with a new form of composition, lacking in technical prowess but I was nonetheless proud of it. Since then I have written quite a lot of house and techno, but I never felt like these tracks were honest. And so many people were saying to me ‘just release it, you’ll get more gigs.’ That really pissed me off.

 photo Claire_Morgan_mesh_zps5cb46170.jpg

It’s taken until recently to understand that reluctance. The first thing that shed some light was a request to arrange techno for a string ensemble, and remembering my burning envy for Francesco Tristano when he arranged Carl Craig’s music for orchestra. Another was hearing that Borderline State remix of Efdemin’s “Parallaxis” and it was such a revelation as this is similar to how I hear a lot of really musical techno. I love the marriage of the electronic and orchestral worlds. I love storytelling, this is always the focus of my DJing and it’s how I always approach composition. And I adore DJing and building energy with a crowd. And working with live musicians. And one of the best days of my life was when I conducted a full orchestra in a recording session for a film score that I had composed and scored. So there’s all these conflicting directions and I’m only just beginning to understand their intersection.

My sister sent me a great article earlier this year, Brian Eno was talking about “navigating in the negative,” in that you keep identifying what you don’t want to do, over and over, until you get closer to what it is you do want to do. I think I have been navigating in the negative for a long time and now I’m totally focussed on what I do want. I’m deep in my new studio at last and so grateful that some amazingly supportive and inspiring friends are patiently waiting for me to be satisfied with what I’m writing so they can help me take the next step. But I’m happy to report that moment is very close now.

Not able to make the journey to Burning Man this year? Have no fear, you’ll be able to stream the event live on USTREAM! The stream commenced this past Saturday and things are starting to pick up. Be sure to catch the festival’s important moments – the man burning (Saturday, August 30th at 9pm PDT) and the temple burning (Sunday, August 31st at 8pm PDT) – as well as scenes of daily life on the playa.

At the time of this posting, the grounds are still looking relatively bare, but given that the festival officially kicks off today we expect things to change rather quickly. The camps are starting to fill in and Burning Man’s signature effigy can clearly be made out in addition to several other structures in the distance. Enjoy!

New Swedish Disco, SOBER, Bans All Alcohol

A new club is set to open this September in Stockholm that only sells soft drinks.

The club's owner, Mårten Andersson, wants to change how we go out with his alcohol free club, SOBER.

Andersson, who's a comedian and TV show host, recently quit drinking, and said it changed how he went out on the weekends.

'Well I can tell you that I have never danced so much as I do now that I am sober.

'Because you no longer need the alcohol for confidence - you can do it on its own.'

'And each time you go out without drinking, you come home and realise that you have become more confident in doing things like talking to people,' he said.

The club will give breathalysers to bouncers for use on individuals upon entry, ensuring no drunk punters come through the doors.

Their first event, happening on September 26 at Kägelbanan in Stockholm, has sold 600 of its 750 available tickets.

Andersson also said that if his new club is a success, he'd like to try and bring the idea to the UK.

Listen: Two Tracks from Aphex Twin’s ‘SYRO’

The ever-elusive Richard D. James has spoken about his now officially announced forthcoming album titled ‘SYRO.’ In an interview with Fader, he shares more information about the album including that some of the oldest tracks on it are six or seven years old.

“I’d stockpiled up so much stuff and you kind of have to draw a line under it somewhere. By banging something out it, it’s like the end of the chapter. It properly draws a line under it and allows you to move on.”

He also shares that ‘SYRO’ will not be the last new music from Aphex Twin. Working on the new album has him “kicked into gear” and we can expect more new material from him in the future.

‘SYRO’ will be released on September 22nd/23rd via Warp Records digitally, on CD, and triple vinyl. It is believed that two of the album’s tracks have been debuted live before – “4 bit 9d api+e+6” at a performance in 2007 and “2012 XMAS_EveT10 (thanaton3 mix)" in 2010 (known then as “Metz”). Grimes Rejects Richie Hawtin's Ice Bucket Challenge

0
0

If there's one thing we've learned about Grimes by now it's that she's not afraid to go against the grain, whether it be by trolling Boiler Room fans, telling the world she hates hard drugs, or her latest - rejecting an ALS charity challenge from Richie Hawtin.

Last week Hawtin took a dousing of ice water alongside Skrillex and Dubfire, and afterwards nominated Anish Kapoor, Sven Vath and his buddy Claire Elise Boucher, aka Grimes. But Boucher denied the techno don the pleasure of witnessing her pour ice cold agua over her skull because of her firm stance on the California drought and animal rights.

"Richie is probably the nicest and coolest person I’ve ever met so i can’t really refuse him," she wrote on her tumblr page."However, I would like to say that I don’t feel great about wasting water in this California drought, but i will donate money. However I will not donate money to this foundation because of their record of testing on animals, but I will donate money to the Malala fund because education is the key to ending almost every issue that faces humanity and our world today."

Fair enough? A small word of advice Ms Boucher, if the dark lord of techno asks you to do something, you DO IT.

Grimes then went on to nominate Detroit Madness, Hana Pestle and Blood Diamonds.

Now the Northern Beaches crew have happened across a new home at The Bristol Arms in Sussex Street, which boasts an epic rooftop with views of the city, a second indoor room for more dancefloor shenanigans and a Funktion-One by Nightworks Audio system.

You can check out photos of the new venue below and purcahse TIX HERE, but you better get a wriggle on as at the time of publishing there were less than 10 tickets left.

Carl Cox joins Marco Carola at Music On: In Review

By all accounts, Music On at Amnesia Ibiza has continued to be a runaway success this season, in its third year since its inception in 2012. With huge attendances and wild parties every Friday, the potential for some of the season’s most memorable dance floor moments is certainly high.

The swelled Amnesia Terrace crowd is a sight to behold when it’s teeming to the brink, with revellers filling the floor literally from the front to the back. A red hue cast over the throng by the red LED strips hanging from the ceilings and burlesque style dancers occupied the podiums, but on the whole the party is a particularly stripped back affair allowing the music to fully take hold.

Finding a good place to stand was essential as to avoid being constantly bumped into – once we’d managed this, our attention could turn to Carl Cox, who was laying down the soundtrack for the evening’s early proceedings.

To see Coxy anywhere on the White Isle but the Space Discoteca is immediately a strange and unfamiliar experience. You could sense it was also an exciting experience for Cox to explore different sonic avenues. Amnesia Terrace has the tendency to influence DJs’ sound, and we tend to hear the house end of the spectrum more heavily. It was instantly evident this was the case as Cox exchanged some of the more pumping techno he’s known for, for an abundance of groovy tech-house fare.

His selections were stripped back with dubby elements and a rough edge, perfect to get the overflowing mass of party-goers moving at this relatively early stage. Freddie Mercury’s ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ vocal unexpectedly rang out across the Terrace, layered over a bass-heavy tech-house stomper. Coxy kept it pumping and sturdy, while maintaining mellow elements, loosening the crowd up over his 2 hour set.

By 4am we were reaching the very peak of the room’s capacity. Looking out over the crowd, bodies were jammed in, filling the stairs, the VIP area on the balcony above and every inch of space through to the back of the room. It was the complete physical manifestation of the feverish anticipation for Carl Cox and Marco Carola.

That palpable buzz quickly morphed into vigorous dance floor energy as Cox and Carola stood side-by-side in the DJ booth. Utilising their individual set-ups at each end of the booth, the pair were a picture of concentration, the two masters carefully shaping the set as they settled into a barebones grooving approach.

Teasing us frequently before dropping heavily swung grooves and tough tech-house such as Timid Boy’s remix of ‘Amarcord’ by Fabio Neural, and tripped-out grooves such as Tim Green’s rework of Leland McWilliams’ ‘The Heat,’ the pair possessed an almost telepathic chemistry, especially considering their lack of interaction once locked into the set.

As time drew on, the crowd eased, cool breezes hit from the fans and the extra dancing space created new energy – the next chapter of the morning was set to begin. Icy blue light cast over the dancing masses as it became time to say farewell to Mr. Cox. Waving to the crowd, the big man the left proceedings to the Neapolitan who stepped things up a notch again with raw slamming bass lines that induced wild moves throughout the room – Luca Ballerini’s ‘Alibi’ stuck in the mind particularly with its full-bodied sub bass.

The party is truly split in two halves and as soon as the sun starts to come up you hit a whole new level of intensity. The sunglasses came out, including Marco’s, and the Italian don started to take things into mind-bending territory.

He really started to push it to the limits with the hardest of bass lines and the most outrageously intense delay and reverb build-ups you’ve ever heard. They became their own entity and can only be described as utterly enormous, screeching and ripping through the sound system – the closest thing you’ll hear to the sound of a plane flying right through the Terrace. In Carola’s inimitable style, he would drop the volume right down, until there was almost nothing, and disengage the crowd – leaving us worrying that the party was coming to an end. We needn’t have worried though, as the Italian rolled the heavy bass lines back in and had a sea of hands in the air.

With the Terrace now in broad daylight Marco Carola was dropping a host of memorable tracks, from whispers of Claude Von Stroke’s ‘Who’s Afraid of Detroit?’ to Johnny Dangerous’ ‘Beat That Bitch’.
By 9am, Marco was well and truly cranking the effects as far as they could go and sending the dance floor into pure fits of mayhem. Amnesia Terrace again reaffirming its place in my heart as one of the best dance floors you can ever experience, and one of the only places you will find Marco Carola ripping through a set in broad daylight.

The morning daylight only seems to affirm the hedonistic spirit even more and by 10am what we all feared the most happened, the doors were opened. Cheers and applause filled the room as Carola ended on Cascandy’s ‘Two Flip’. A near religious experience it was.

Bakermat: 'I'm trying to go back to the days when dance music was fun'

After exploding onto the scene in his native Amsterdam with his now chart topping hit, 'One Day' (also notching over 20 million YouTube views), Bakermat has gone on to prove he's more than a one hit wonder. Playing festivals and clubs the world over in the last few years, this relative newcomer has gained a huge new fanbase with his melodic, organic brand of house and techno.

These days, along with DJing and producing, he's begun playing with a five piece band, and has an album in the works for this year, the concept of which he describes as "trying to create a new, original genre in dance music." With the success he's already seen, we wouldn't be surprised if he pulled off this far reaching feat. So we caught up with Lodewijk Fluttert, AKA Bakermat, to find out more about how he got into dance music, where his love of organic sounds comes from, and he reveals more details about his upcoming LP.

<br>

First of all, ‘One Day’ broke into the UK Charts Top 20, how did that feel? Felt great and actually really unexpected. The track is pretty old and has already made it's way through Europe, I don't know the exact reason why it was released so late in the UK, but it felt great that it made it to the charts anyway.

Can you explain to us your introduction to music in general and to electronic music? I have always had a passion for music, and I’ve been collecting jazz, blues and soul records since I was 9. When I was around 16, I started listening to dance music as well, especially minimal techno, deep house and tech house. When I was in college, I took a semester off just to see if I could make my own music as well. I downloaded the software, combined minimal and deep house with jazz, soul and blues, and that's where it all started.

What influenced you to start producing music? I really don't know, it was some kind of urge. I loved studying psychology and I loved my student life, but I felt there was something missing. I just had to make my own tunes and express myself, and didn't really care if anyone would listen to my music. I put my music on YouTube and SoundCloud and people actually liked it. That was a great motivation for me to pursue my dream of becoming a full time producer and DJ.

Your productions have a strong relationship with instrumentation you wouldn’t usually find in house music, particularly the saxophone – why is this? This is because of my love and passion for jazz, blues and soul music. I love classical instruments like saxophone, violin, piano and flutes more than synthesizers. I like synths to be a part of music, but the actual acoustic instruments make music more human, more organic.

Your music is contains dance floor elements as well as musical elements that suit home-listening – where do you think is the ideal place to hear your music? At a beach party, on a boat, at festivals, in your car.
How do you set-up when you play live? For DJ sets, I just use 3 CDJs and a mixer. When I perform live, I play with 5 musicians so it's a bit more complex. I use Ableton with two MIDI controllers: one to play with effects and one to play with clips and scenes.

You’re playing in London on 8th September with a full live band – can you tell us more about this? It's a new challenge for me. I've been playing DJ sets for two years now and really wanted to do something special this year. Since my music contains a lot of classical instruments, I thought it would be cool to perform these parts live, because it's gives a more human touch to my shows. The saxophone, violin, percussion, vocals and piano parts will be live. The actual beats and synths will be under my control.

Do you have plans to plans to work with live musicians more? Any plans to introduce live musicians into the recording process? Already on it! I just finished my album, which will contain a lot of live elements and samples. My ultimate dream is to play with an entire orchestra, but it will take a while to get that sorted out I think...

What can you tell us about the album? Any collaborations or big surprises to it? I'm trying to create a new, original genre in dance music. The album is all about this melodic house music, and I hope it will be a fundament for the future. I think it will surprise people because it's a different view on house music and it's a very fresh sound that nobody has ever heard before. It contains a lot of blues, soul and jazz elements.

Is there a concept to the album? I'm trying to go back to the days when dance music was fun and not about credible or non-credible. Nowadays there's a huge gap between the big room EDM sound and underground techno, and everybody is cynical and commenting on everything. I think the EDM guys lack creativity and originality, and the underground techno guys are not open-minded and too busy trying to prove they are credible.

With this album I’m trying to bring the fun, where dance music was originally all about, back by just making music that I love without thinking too much about credibility, strategy or marketing.

Finally, aside from your UK date, are there any plans for an autumn or winter tour? I have a tour planned in November in the UK, I will be playing in Manchester, Bournemouth, Bristol, Birmingham, Glasgow and London.

Manchester clubbing institution The Warehouse Project will host an array of top quality talent on Sunday 7th September, for their We Love… takeover at Space Ibiza. Nicolas Jaar will play a DJ set alongside Joy Orbison who's going back-to-back with George Fitzgerald in the Discoteca.

On the Terrace, deep house legend Kerri Chandler will appear with Benoit & Sergio, and Eats Everything and Richy Ahmed will go back-to-back for four hours. Stripped on the Sunset Terrace will see a day full of special guests, hosted by Manchester promoters Kaluki, Ibiza Spotlight will take over El Salon and Manchester promoters Drop The Mustard will host Premier Etage.

The Warehouse Project’s Sam Kandel said:

“The whole Warehouse Project team are very pleased to announce that we will be joining the We Love… family for one special night in Ibiza, at Space. To be honest we have had multiple requests over the years to do events in Ibiza and have always respectfully declined. But we felt this was a great opportunity to curate a special one-off event at what is without a doubt one of the greatest clubs on the planet. We have handpicked some artists who are very much at the core of WHP, and hopefully the event will feel quite distinctive within this summer's Ibiza landscape.”

10 Best Labels Of 2014 So Far

0

With the advent of digital technology, more labels have popped up in the last 5 years than have ever existed before. Many are fly-by-night, at home operations that serve only to clutter the elecronic music landscape with the forgettable. But some, even smaller labels, forge ahead as bastions of cutting edge music, slicing through the noise to deliver often timeless, world class singles, EPs and albums. Here we look at 10 labels that in 2014 have stood firmly on the latter ground. These are Pulse Radio's 10 Best Labels Of 2014 So Far...

Life and Death

Life and Death continue to be one of the most striking labels around at the moment; from the fascinating artwork on each release to the unique and distinctive sounds that the label puts out. This alternative sensibility can be largely attributed to the influences of its key players – DJ Tennis, who has produced TV adverts, film soundtracks and music for theatre, Greg Oreck, one half of Thugfucker, and Tale Of Us’ Matteo Milleri. Underpinning each release is something that will complete grab your attention, whether it’s the pop sensibility of Âme’s remix of ‘Turn Around’ by Sailor & I or the instantly recognisable synths on Ten Wall’s ‘Requiem’. Life and Death keep us guessing, but with each record we know we’re going to get something original, unique and ready to smash the dance floor. Not allowing themselves to rest on their laurels, sub-label Parachute Records has been launched, exploring a more raw musical output.

Music Is Love

Oli Furness' Manchester based label Music Is Love has steadily been growing into a stand-out label for straight-up house cuts of the highest quality delivered by a finely selected array of underground producers. Key parts of their ethos include paying careful attention to the roster of artists they select and focusing mainly on vinyl releases. Sub-label M.I.L. has also been set up to give a platform to productions with a tougher, darker edge. The past year has seen the label venture into throwing parties, with a monthly residency at Sankeys Manchester, delivering the likes of Marcel Dettmann, Nina Kraviz, Chez Damier and Dungeon Meat. They’ve also taken parties to ADE, Berlin and have parties forthcoming at Sankeys Ibiza in September.

VIVa MUSiC

After handling Harlem Records, Steve Lawler founded VIVa MUSiC back in 2006. Since then some of the most acclaimed names in tech-house have released on the label including Andrea Oliva, Leon, Livio & Roby, Robert Dietz and Audiofly. VIVa has gone on to spawn successful parties all around Europe, with the VIVa Warriors brand going from strength to strength every Sunday at Sankeys Ibiza in particular. VIVa continues to serve up some of the finest tech-house on offer from a host of exciting artists – System2 and Cera Alba are two hot names that have released on the label recently.

Permanent Vacation

You’d be hard pressed to find a label so eclectic across the house spectrum that still maintains its own sound than Permanent Vacation. So far this year it’s been business as usual for the German imprint, along with some delicious curveballs thrown in for good measure, such as the proto-house 2.0 sounds in Lauer’s ‘Donner Lake’ EP, and Dollkraut’s recent leftield electro release. Never a dull moment.

Future Classic

The Sydney based label has come a long way from its deep house and nu-disco roots, with recent success coming from Australia’s newest hotbed of beatmakers. 2012 was the year that really threw them into the spotlight thanks to Flume’s all-conquering debut LP, and this year they’ve tapped into chart topping magic once again thanks to digital crooner, Chet Faker. With some much anticipated albums still yet to drop from the likes of Seekae and newcomer Thrupence, FC are continuing to push forward thinking sounds from down under.

SCI + TEC Digital Audio

Launched by Dubfire in 2007, SCI + TEC has becoming one of the industry’s most watched labels for emerging talent. Showcasing the best from the likes of Miss Kittin, Sante, Harvard Bass and Dubfire and emerging artists like WHYT NOYZ, SHADED, Kevin Castro and many more, the imprint is has been paving a solid way for itself through the underground community. Fresh from Barrakud festival in Greece, where Carlo Lio, SHADED and Dubfluss threw down some serious tunes, SCI + TEC looks to continue its run as one of the most cutting edge techno imprints around.

Octopus Recordings

Irish DJ and producer, Sian, is the boss behind techno imprint Octopus. Highly focused on showcasing the best and brightest of emerging talent, releases by artists like Paul Strive, Sasha Carassi and Jay Lumen are featured in radio shows around the world. Strive’s latest release titled ‘Take This Sound” was remixed by master Dutch selector 2000 And One and Sian’s "Shame Cube (Oliver Huntemann Remix)" is currently No. 2 on Beatport’s Techno Top 100 chart. Nicole Moudaber, Alan Fitzpatrick and Joel Mull are among the number of influential artists to support the label.
