Less than a week after Darkside revealed their project is "coming to an end," Swedish brother and sister duo The Knife have announced the same fate for their much loved outfit, with Karin Dreijer revealing in an interview with Dazed that their upcoming 'Shaking The Habitual' European tour will be the last.

"When we finish the tour now in November we will close down, it’s our last tour," she says. "We don’t have any obligations to continue, it should only and always be for fun."

You can check out a trailer for their final tour below. Here's hoping that Karin Dreijer has another Fever Ray album in the pipeline.

Did you know there's a a guy pretending to be Ricardo Villalobos on Twitter? It's true, and he has over 14 thousand followers! We're not ashamed to admit that there was a time where we actually thought it was Ricardo himself and fell for one of his epic trolls. But his latest antic? It's a doozy.

Yesterday Paris Hilton tweeted to her fans how excited she was to be playing at her Foam and Diamonds party that evening, to which Deadmau5 replied, "whatever, just clean up your stupid fuckin mess before I get there next week." Then along came faux Ricardo who served them up an EDM lashing. Check it out below.

In a delicious twist of irony, Paris has uploaded a photo to instagram of her hanging out with "real" DJs Richie Hawtin, Skrillex and Dubfire at Amnesia. Only in Ibiza.

Both mixes feature exclusive new productions from Cattaneo and his production partners Soundexile.

Cattaneo's mix comes hot on the heels of Danny Tenaglia's Balance 25, with both albums to be released in September. You can check the full tracklisting for Balance 26 below and listen to a preview of disc one below.

Chinese Laundry 2.0: Q&A With Paul Azzopardi

One of Sydney's longest running and most iconic nightclubs,Chinese Laundry, kicked off acompletely revamped music policythis month. We caught up with Paul Azzopardi, who has recently returned to the club as Musical Director, to find out what's in store from Chinese Laundry 2.0.

 photo blackline2_zps37b5f386.jpg

You left as promoter of Laundry to work for Soapbox, a division of Ministry Of Sound, in September last year. Did you ever envisage you’d be back booking music for Laundry again so soon? No I didn’t to be honest but I am very happy to be back in there again as it is an amazing club and Sydney’s club scene needs a club like Chinese Laundry as there isn’t another club like it in the city. I've taken on the role of Musical Director for the club and we have some great young hosts, Jackson Donegal and Elinor Williams, who now oversee the nights at the venue.

What can we expect from Laundry’s new revamped music programme? How will things be different artist wise (both locally and internationally) now that you have Ministry Of Sound behind you? Our aim is to provide quality musical offerings every weekend and make it the place you want to go.

Friday nights is called Bassic and we have given it the tag line of “Sydney’s home for all things Bass”. We will be focusing a lot on the really current sounds taking inspiration slightly from the Diplo/Mad Decent crew, trap, Australian sound, future beats and also drum 'n' bass, dubstep and some heavier sounds too.

Saturday nights are called LNDRY as we wanted to bring some more focus back on to the venue, and with three rooms to cater for all tastes we are able to provide a broad offering. The Laundry room is house and electro, the Cave is techno, progressive house and all things that fit in those styl,s and the Sand Bar is hip-hop.

So the Garden parties are returning to the Slip Inn courtyard, yes? What was the reason behind the move back? The Garden Parties are back! That is correct, we all agreed bringing the Garden Parties back to Chinese Laundry was a priority as the parties are very special, but it also means that the focus for everyone is 100% back at the Slip Inn complex.

John Digweed is kicking off the first one this year. Can we expect some more exciting internationals for the Garden Parties this summer? John Digweed will be kicking things off and really excited to have him back with us for the fourth time. We have the whole season planned out with six parties in the making with amazing names.

The club has already hosted some awesome internationals since its re-launch, including the much anticipated Anklepants gig. What were your thought on it, beyond all the hype and online chatter? Ankelpants was incredible, we have always pushed the boundaries at the club and always tried to make our offering different to what you can get at other venues so when the chance to book what is the easily the most Interesting artist in the world, it was one we were always going to be all over. His show was one that you need to see to really get. He is an amazing showman and his productions sounded incredible on a big system. It was a big home run in terms of performance and marketing / viral facebook exposure.

You were artist booker for Laundry for nine long years. What’s the one of the funniest/weirdest stories you can share with us during this stint? Oh man, there are so many that I would love to tell but really can’t so here are a a couple of PC stories....

Some quality moments would be kicking on with Groove Armada after they performed and then Tom from Groove Armada swapping clothes with one of the bar girls for a laugh. She then had to rush off for some family emergency and he had to wear her dress back to the hotel. Or the night James Lavelle DJ'd for 4 hours during Staffies for about twenty staff after the club closed...that was special!

What is your favourite track so far this year? Will Clarke - 'Big Booty'. Reminds me of being in Ibiza in May just gone as it was being dropped by all the big DJs at every party we went to.

Who should we be watching out for this summer? So many big names at the club over summer but I wouldn’t want to give anything away just yet as I like to save some surprises.

How Not To Die At Burning Man

The annual Burning Man festival kicks off once again in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert next week which will see 50,000 people basically get nude and lose their minds for a whole week, before then disapppearing back to the real world without leaving a single trace that anything had ever happened.

It's a festival that has creeped its way into the mainstream conciousness and grown to epic proportions over the past several years, with more and more virgins (that's Burning Man virgins, not folks who haven't boned before...though you could pop your orgy cherry in the infamous orgy tent) making their way into the desert for the first time.

With that in mind, Fest 300 magazine has crafted an essential guide on how not to die at Burning Man, which has lots of handy tips on how to stay safe and healthy. Check it out below!

The State Crime Command’s Drug Squad has today issued a drug warning after recent seizures of tablets which contained dangerous levels of 25c-NBOMe, an extremely potent psychoactive substance responsible for a number of deaths in Australia and overseas.

The tablets, which are light blue in colour and are stamped with a batman logo, are being sold to drug users as a form of ecstasy. Commander of the Drug Squad, Detective Superintendent Tony Cooke, said there had been cases both here in Australia and overseas where people affected by the NBOMe class of drug had died.

"We are aware of the Blue Batman pills and, in particular, a number of bad reactions users had after taking them at an event in the Hawkesbury last weekend," he said. "In fact, similar pills recently seized by police contained the drug 25c-NBOMe, one of the so called new psychoactive substances recently outlawed. A closely related substance was in fact involved in the death of a young man in Sydney last year."

Be safe, people.

 photo BreatheSunshineEngagepic_zps144f4c35.jpg

This one-day music conference offers attendees industry experience featuring local and international speakers, panels and ‘on the couch’ interviews. Aimed at music students, artists, professionals, media and anyone keen on learning more about the industry, the public is urged to purchase their tickets quickly as space is limited.

Delivering the keynote addresses are Terry Weerasinghe – Beatports Vice President of Music Services, along with SA’s Gareth Cliff.

 photo Beatportpic_zps62bbec3e.png

Founded in 2004, Beatport is the largest music download store for DJs in the world, with Terry being one of the most connected and well-respected figures in dance music. Based in Berlin, Terry will address delegates on the boom in dance music worldwide and how Africa can tap into it. He’ll also outline how the digital retailer is transitioning to a new future whilst highlighting how labels, artists and others can participate in building a global community that makes music available to a broader audience and deepens the relationship between artists and their fans.

As one of the most recognised radio DJ’s on the African continent, Gareth Cliff will talk about the future of radio in South Africa and his experience launching his own online radio portal, CliffCentral.

Recognising the need for national events that facilitate networking, knowledge-sharing and artist empowerment, the conference comprises various panel discussions aimed at encouraging engagement and collaboration all aimed at building the industry.

The Management Vacuum in the African Music Industry: Understanding the management role, what can be done to improve and develop better management skills and how do we attract more high calibre professionals into the game.

Confirmed panelists include: Graeme Gilfillan – Nisa Global Entertainment (PTY) Ltd, Zakes Bantwini - Head of A&R Sony, Raphael Benza - AKA Management, Refiloe Ramogase - Dreamteam Management, Franie Kotze - Clear Entertainment, Amaru Da Costa – Soulistic.

Soul Candi records will present a panel focused on ‘Taking South African House Music Global’, touching on themes such as how to compete in a highly competitive international electronic music industry, realizing our true global potential, and empowering artists to prepare themselves for international success.

 photo SoulCandpic55_zps270b72b4.jpg

Confirmed Panelists include Black Coffee, Allan Nicoll - Soul Candi, Nomndeni Mdakhi - Edits Communications (Kalawa Jazzmee), DJ Clock - AM-PM Productions, Jullian Gomes and our very own Pulse Radio South Africa General Manager - Kavir Magan.

The popular ‘on the couch’ sessions will include global speakers, two of whom are renowned international booking agents from the UK’s Coda Music Agency; Paul Buck and James Whitting. Coda looks after Imagine Dragons, Ellie Goulding, Bastille, Rudimental, Disclosure, The XX, The Vaccines, Bon Iver, John Newman, Jay Electronica, Jamie Woon, Faithless, Macy Grey, Mr Scruff and new teenage sensation Jake Bugg, to name a few.

With indie rock festival Vodacom In the City (VITC) taking place at neighbouring Mary Fitzgerald Square on the same day, it’s likely that the international contingent in SA for VITC and Rocking the Daisies will make themselves available to attend parts of the conference too.

 photo VITCpic55_zpsd7f7859d.jpg

Seed Experiences, the company behind VITC, Rocking the Daisies and a host of other top festivals, recognized the need to support the industry that supports them. By partnering with Black Mango, the founders of Breathe Sunshine African Music Conference, the two parties created Breathe Sunshine Engage.

“The African music industry is one of the fastest growing music industries in the world but the continent still lacks the skills and network of our international counterparts. Through our Breathe Sunshine conferences we aim to address these challenges and put South Africa on the map as
a global music hub for African music,” comments Trenton Birch, founder of Black Mango. “With strategic partnerships with Kenyan Music Week, AFRIMA (All African Music Awards - Nigeria), Reeperbahn Festival (Germany), Europe’s largest music conference and CJM (USA), we have opened up an international network with the world’s top global conferences,” concludes Birch.

The team has taken their international alliance one step further by being invited to represent Breathe Sunshine South Africa at Hamburg’s Reeperbahn Festival in September where they will host two panels and a showcase celebrating 20 years of democracy.

This week we welcome Port Elizabeth born and bred Jay Bhana also known as Jay-B. Club DJ, producer, band member and also DJ school founder. In 2010 he played after Fatboy Slim during the world cup festivities. Join us as we get to know a little more about Jay-B and uncover what lies beneath and what more he has to offer.

 photo JayBhanaLogoPic_zps7c55af44.jpg

Many DJ's consider each mix they do to be significant and special in some way, whether its their own tracks they are sharing or tracks that have spoken to them in some way. Tell us about this mix and what it means to you and what you would like us to take away from it?I had an absolute ball mixing this set (bouncing around my studio keeping the neighbors awake) , I wanted to encapsulate what Jay Bhana is all about, take the listener on a little mini journey into the sound that I find most entertaining. Also I wanted to showcase some of the tunes I’ve been making for the past couple of months.

You have been producing your own tracks as well as doing remixes for other producers, what has that experience been like and as a producer what would you describe your sound as?It started off in taking shots in the dark fiddling around experimenting with different methods, learning from other producers’ tutorials etc, but over time I started getting into what I would consider the Jay Bhana sound now. I came from a totally soulful house background and progressed to playing more dancefloor orientated bouncy sets, I would like to think my productions reflect on that. Dance floor music that has soul.

 photo JayBPic_zps2e979035.jpg

It is not common that we hear of a DJ/producer who also manages a band, how did this come about? Down By Law started in 2010 with just myself and 2 jazz musicians on Sax & Guitar, our manager at the time had just kinda brought them over to my studio one night and we just hit it off from the get-go. Not long after getting the ball rolling I incorporated a vocalist that I had previously been working with. We then started working on our own original tracks. The band now consists of the same vocalist, Tiffany Oosthuizen, Joash Soobramoney on sax, flute & EWI & myself, producing, running loops and backings on decks & controllers.

Another interesting thing is that you run a DJ school called ‘On Cue’. Tell us what inspired this and exactly what it means to you to be able to share your knowledge on all things music? On Cue started off as The Numark DJ Academy in 2008 between myself & veteran DJ, Derek Jumphiya. Our goal was to give the next generation of DJ’s a place learn how to DJ the RIGHT way the 1st time round. We successfully trained many of PE’s residing club DJ’s today. When Derek moved out of town, I then carried on by myself as On Cue from my home studio where I continue to teach a beginner & intermediate DJ course. I take pride in my students who I refuse to send out into the world without being happy with their performance on the decks.

Having been in this industry for over a decade now, how has it changed your life and what has it taught you?
Growing up I was a very quiet introverted kid. Once I got involved in the DJ industry I quickly realized that I had to present myself in a more open way. This brought me out of my shell and to the not as socially awkward person I am today. Being a DJ/Producer one learns that once it stops being a hobby and starts being considered as a career, it requires hard work, perseverance and hundreds apon hundreds of hours to keep up with the rest of the world. Start neglecting it, & fall behind. The past decade has been a rollercoaster of awesome & not so awesome experiences, mostly awesome though traveling the country spreading my love of house music to the masses.

As a DJ, producer, band member and DJ school founder I can only imagine that you have many more ventures lined up, are you working on anything new?
Right now I’m trying to grow my brand as Jay Bhana. Putting in the hours working on new tracks and working on a “one man show” incorporating routines with turntables and a maschine. I believe that to stand out as a DJ right now it helps to do be more interactive with your crowd.

 photo JayBpic1_zpsd786e662.jpg

You did a Beatport guest mix called Odyssey vol.6, which was a live 2 hour mix, what was different about this mix and what was that whole experience like? The beatport mix had me under a lot more pressure as it was aimed at an international audience. It’s always a little tricky with mixes because what works on the dancefloor might not necessarily be good “listening music” if it were played in someone’s car or on their ipod etc. Also keeping someone’s attention for 2 hours without skipping to the next is also not an easy task. I am happy with the result though, enjoyed the challenge.

You have had an EP released through Heads & Tails and a remix for Socially Rejected, walk us through how this all came to be? And since those releases what else have you done? Heads & Tails label heads, Roger Deluxe & Craig De Souza were in PE and I played them “Groov’d” They instantly said they wanted it on their label & I needed a B-Side for the EP. A week later I had made “Takin’ Over”. The tracks were then sent off for mastering and I got slotted into the release schedule for the label. The Socially Rejected release I was contacted through soundcloud by wayne modz & asked to do a remix of his track. I heard the original, liked it so agreed & he released it through his label. Since, I have been working on a remix for Shavaun, an artist from Australia, & also a new release from Down By Law called “silence the noises”. Both of them are in the mix, be sure to check em out.

 photo JayB-pound_zps10edaec3.jpg

There’s always a next step in life, at some point we find ourselves calculating our next step, what is your next step, and your aspirations for your future? We have recently heard that you have plans to relocate to Australia next year, what sparked this decision and what does it mean for your career? Well, my beloved wife is from Sydney and after we got hitched we always planned to relocate from PE to Sydney. Having visited and played a couple gigs there, now just feels like the perfect time. Ready as I’l ever be to make the move. I would like hit the ground running and involve myself in the nightlife & the flip side of the industry by teaching and working with everything DJ related. I intend on using the knowledge and experience I’ve gained over the last decade here to push forward to new heights in Sydney. The next step for me is starting all over again, when moving to Sydney I’l be back in the situation I was when I was 18 years old, having to prove myself & starting from the ground up. I’ve been preparing for this though; hence the re-branding from Jay-B to Jay Bhana & upping my game over the past couple of years. I believe with a positive outlook anything is possible. I also hope to get another band going in oz at some stage. Basically at the end of the day I want what every entertainer wants, to be able to live comfortably off doing what I love.... so far so good.

Having had the experiences and career you have, is there anything you would like to share with us that people either don’t know about you or sometimes overlook? When you’re out and see that smile on my face when I drop a track that totally moves me it’s 100% genuine. In this age of pop up DJ’s & over-saturation of the industry, you need that genuine love for what you’re doing. It’s gotten me through some pretty tough times in the past & most probably will in the future. Credit to my big bro, Vimo who’s always endorsed my productions up in JHB, also to DJ D-Flat in Sydney who’s been pushing my sounds down under.

The man who reportedly attacked a festival goer at Lollapalooza has been arrested by Chicago police. Sergio Vicenteno, 33, of Chicago, was apprehended this week and charged with two counts of aggravated battery at a public venue. He was released on $60,000 bond.

He is accused of attacking 29-year-old Ben Lenet during Arctic Monkeys’ performance at the festival, which took place in Grant Park from July 31st through August 2nd. Lenet was immediately taken to the hospital where he received a tetanus shot and preventative treatment for HIV and hepatitis.

He posted about the incident on Reddit likening it to a “zombie” attack, and claiming that he was sober and didn’t provoke anything. “The attacker then turns his head clamps his teeth into my arm for a good 5 seconds. He’s not nipping at me. He’s trying to bite through my arm… CPD would later tell me they only see assailants like that who are on PCP or bath salts.”

Skrillex has just released a video recap of his 2014 Mothership Tour, which saw the EDM star bring his unique sounds from coast to coast at some of the continent’s coolest venues like the Red Rocks Ampitheater as well as some lesser-known spots. Along for the ride (and taking part in the shenanigans) were a group of talented DJs – Dillon Francis, DJ Snake, What So Not, and Milo & Otis.

In addition to highlighting performances and the tour’s awesome stage setup and lighting rig, the video also showcases a lot of behind the scenes material showing how the crew spent their downtime joking around and meeting enthusiastic fans.

Sun-Soaked Memories at Osheaga Festival

It's been a busy month of partying and good good vibes during the music festival madness in Montreal. Osheaga kicked off the sounds and sites of summer with a mélange of acts, boasting an impressive lineup in the realm of rock, rap, indie, hip-hop and electronic dance music. Pulse Radio Crew were on festival grounds this year to soak in the experience and capture the stellar acts and festival-goers having a damn good time.

Held on the lush surrounds of Island Parc Jean-Drapeau, Osheaga Music and Arts Festival has indeed established itself as the largest festival of its kind in Canada. Attracting headliners which wowed the crowd in an energy-fuelled and LOUD performance by Skrillex, to the cheeky stage antics of OutKast and the ever so moving performance by tiny genius and Kiwi songstress Lorde.

The underground heroes with their pulsating beats included Laurent Garnier, Chase & Status, SBTRKT, Gesaffelstein, Breach, Clockwork, Tiga, Tchami and Duke Dumont, entertaining party goers into the breezy summer night.

Osheaga 2014 upped the fashion stakes with the 90s making a comeback in a big way alongside psychedelic prints, plastic fantastic, raver kids, and boho charm with plenty of flower power. It's not a music festival without the crazy horse head masks and unicorns making a raving fashion statement, with some getting a wee bit creative wearing socks over shoes. But the best party prop goes to the random kitchen mop bobbing up and down like nobody's business amongst the sea of revelers.

OutKast undoubtedly caused major excitement and sing alongs on their Friday evening performance. However, Skrillex brought down the house with an energetic, smoke-filled performance in his impressive stage spaceship, straight after playing at Lollapalooza in the States, not to be overshadowed by Chase & Status who delivered the goods in their closing drum and bass set.

Notable mentions go to the kids from Down Under, Lorde with her cool gal vibe and mermaid locks, putting on one hell of an emotional performance along with dramatic convulsive dancing. Aussie producer Flume worked his electro magic with no shortage of female admirers. The two young talents have also collaborated on some bangerzzz together in the past.

To top off the three days of partying, the Piknic Electronik stage was going off on the final day with superb sets by Tchami, Duke Dumont and Tiga. The party crowd was smitten by the sweet sounds of French DJ/Producer Tchami and his memorable priest attire. The Parisian craftily combined new and old school music to his beloved audience who were chanting his Janet Jackson remix of 'Go Deep' way until the early light.

The pros (always important to know for the avid festival goer) is the easy peasy commute to the Montreal based festival. Revelers traveling via metro to the event were ensured a quick and swift journey (from downtown) to Parc Jean-Drapeu. Another bonus was the Festival's free app, a brilliant source to plan, navigate and enhance your Osheaga experience.

However, the cons were the mass crowds leaving the festival grounds each evening and having to line up for long periods just to access the metro and exit the grounds. Your best bet is to leave way before the crowd builds up.

With major headliners to local favourites and an eclectic range of international acts spread across three days on six stages, Osheaga catered to all music lovers and festival devotees.

And just remember kids, “Life is short. Take more baths.” - wise words courtesy of André 3000's slogan jumpsuit.

See you next year Osheaga and thanks for the sun-soaked memories...

Perth producer Sable (who you may remember from our Fresh Blood series) has a new track titled ‘The One’ featuring vocals from Block Party frontman, Kele.

The pair hooked up to record the single during Kele's visit to Australia back in June for Circo festival as part of the #JDFutureLegends initiative which this time around have collaborated with Perth record-label and party collective, Pilerats.

“Sable is the first Australian producer I’ve had the pleasure of working with," said Kele of the collab. "Given some of the most exciting electronic music is coming from Australia right now, the project was a great opportunity for me to explore these new sounds and the creativity behind it first hand.”

‘The One’ is a nice bit of prep for Kele fans in the lead up to his sophomore album 'TRICK' dropping in October (listen to single 'Doubt'here). You can download the track here plus watch the visually awesome video clip below.

James Blake premiered a new track '200 Press' on BBC Radio 1's Residency show last night which sounds miles away from the electronic pop of his albums and more in the vein of of his early EPs (but still kinda not).

The off-kilter cut is to be released on vinyl, with only 200 to be pressed (hence the title). Blake dropped the track on the show among cuts from Moodymann, Theo Parrish and Peverlist.

You can listen to '200 Press' below and the entire BBC Radio 1 show here.

Lord of the Isles - Greane/Gigha

Lord of the Isles
Greane/Gigha
Phonica

8/10

Scotland’s prolific purveyor of melodic, soulful house and nu-disco flavours, Lord of the Isles returns to Phonica for the first time since his critically acclaimed 2012 four-tracker 'Year of the City EP' with two extended psychedelic journeys through the house universe.

Greane is surprisingly energetic for Lord of the Isles. This is not a low-slung, slow-burning groove. This is a peak-time jam. For the entirety of its nearly eleven minutes, Greane stays upbeat, punchy and aimed squarely at the dancefloor. Tense, noisy hi-hats float above an up-tempo kick-snare pattern that punches through the mix, adding an infectious intensity to the bubbly acid bassline that modulates hypnotically as the track continues. But what really stands out are the melodies: the sparkling, hands-in-the-air synths that are reminiscent of early Derrick May material, and will stay stuck in your head for days.

With its gorgeous symphonic strings, Grigha feels like the score to a film that doesn’t exist yet. Even with its driving bassline, cheeky shaker patterns, and wobbly acid lead, there’s just something really cinematic about the track, which is largely thanks to the lush strings which come in and out of the mix and invoke images of an expansive country-side. Try to listen to this and not imagine a wide, panning shot of the kinds of rolling green hills that characterise Lord of the Isles’ home country.
