Comedian Will Ferrell and frequent partners Adam McKay and Kevin Messick have been chosen to produce a new R-rated EDM-centered film called ‘I’m In Love With The DJ.’ Written by Lauryn Kahn, the film will tell the story of a girl and her two friends who go on a business trip to Spain, take part in the European dance music scene, and end up hunting down an attractive DJ.

Sony Pictures purchased the script which its production president Michael De Luca raves about. “Her characters are full of life and very, very funny. We love the script and we’re excited to be working with her, Will, Adam, and Kevin.”

News of this forthcoming EDM-themed film follows an announcement that HBO is working on a new series with Calvin Harris, further showing how EDM culture is becoming more mainstream in American society.

Berghain resident and the current king of dark techno Marcel Dettmann took the reigns of the Essential Mix over the weekend - his first ever mix for the long-running radio program.

Dettmann has been a resident of the infamous Berlin haunt Berghain for fifteen years, going back to its original incarnation as Ostgut. Catch DJ W!ld At The Raven NYC

Get your weekend started a few days early with DJ W!ld at The Raven this Wednesday, April 23rd. If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t been to The Raven by now, this is the week to go. The subterranean space keeps us coming back to the Meatpacking District, week after week.

Since his Circoloco residency, WMC and Sonar debuts and joining the legendary Cocoon family, DJ W!ld has kept deep, dark, sexy, acid house close to his heart. Originally from Dijon, France, DJ W!ld relocated to Paris and gravitated towards the DJ booth in 1996. Nearly a decade later, he has become an international sensation, producing tracks championed by legends like Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin and Josh Wink. He established his own solo imprint, Catwash Records, in the mid 00’s and founded his W label in 2011.

W!ld will be accompanied by New York native and Sullivan Room Records founder, Meandisco. Meandisco has been involved in some of the most historic clubs of modern day New York City, such as Twilo and Vinyl. Friend and mentor, Danny Tenaglia, christened him as Meandisco in the 1990s, and he has worked with some of the industry’s most highly respected names like Kerri Chandler, John Digweed, Sasha and Sven Vath. We can’t wait to see these two in action. This party is going to be one for the books!

10 Impressive Pics From Guy Gerber's Marquee New York Residency Launch

Guy Gerber has without a doubt emerged as one of the biggest names in electronic music and there's no one quite as on fire as this Israeli-born DJ and producer at present. Need proof? The past 12 months alone has seen him collaborate with Innervisions boss Dixon on the 'No Distance EP' (listen here), team up with none other than P Diddy for the 11:11 project, and rumour has it this year he'll be lining up a brand new residency on the White Isle.

To top all that off, over the weekend Gerber kicked off his brand new residency at Marquee New York with an all-night set. Judging from the impressive photos it looked like quite a party. Check them out below.

5 Acts We'd Like to See At Splendour In The Grass 2014

$

0

The official lineup announcement for Splendour In The Grass 2014 is only a day away. You’ve already heard about the Outkast headliner leak - and that local boys Yahtzel and Chet Faker are also on the bill - but we figured it's worth taking a stab at some other names that could possibly wind up on the Splendour bill tomorrow.

Here’s five acts we’d like to see at Splendour In The Grass 2014...

 photo BEETS_zps2d1111f8.jpg

1. Electro-punksters The Bloody Beetroots are hotly tipped to feature at the 2014 edition of Splendour. The masked pair have a healthy young following in Oz as anyone who attended their previous Big Day Out performances will attest. The Italian pair comprising Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo and Tommy Tea are also on the bill for Fuji Rock, so the evidence is looking pretty damning.

 photo CLAUDE_zps01a79273.jpg

2. Claude Vonstroke will also be appearing at Fuji Rock 2014. The US house and techno DJ released his third LP ‘Urban Animal’ last year and has been touring extensively since. The San Francisco producer is a favourite amongst Australian audiences, and just so happens to have an opening in his tour schedule over the Splendour weekend. Coincidence? We think not.

 photo BJAXX_zps1410ee26.jpg

3. Basement Jaxx are also generating significant pre-Splendour hype. The UK duo are no strangers to Australian shores, with a bundle of BDO and Field Day appearances to their name. The two-piece haven’t visited in a while so don’t be surprised to see the ‘Bingo Bango’ pair at Byron Bay come July.

 photo trentemoller_zps2593764d.jpg

4. Trentemoller is another name we’d love to see announced in tomorrow’s SITG lineup. The hardworking Dane released a new album last year and has just announced a massive European tour. An appearance at Splendour is not beyond the realm of possibility considering his extensive Australian touring experience, however Trentemoller has seldom been mentioned in rumour mills. Not a likely inclusion, but we’re not closing the door just yet.

 photo SBTRKT_zps72a2f159.jpg

5. Rumours have been swelling around SBTRKT of late. The enigmatic DJ and producer is putting the finishing touches on his sophomore LP, after creating massive buzz with the release of the ‘Transitions’ EP earlier this year. His last visit was back in 2012 for the Laneway Festival so he’s certainly due a return. His inclusion in the Fuji Rock lineup has only stoked the fire further. Stay tuned.

Hospital Club – G-House in Eastern Russia

$

Music has, and always will be, a force that overcomes even the most urgent of political situations. It is a noise that thunders over the loudest government rhetoric and something that people all over the world turn to in order to escape the harsh realities that the television projects. Russia may be at the forefront of world news right now, but there is one nightclub in far-Eastern Russia that is rising above this and placing itself at the forefront of Russian electronic music, both as a club and as a record label – the Hospital Club.

Located in Khabarovsk, which is about 7000 miles from London, the Hospital Club began, according to owners and brothers, Roman and Vlad Gavrilyuk, as a “dream that we had for a place where we could throw private parties for our friends with a music policy that we wanted to hear – and step by step, working year by year, we got it.” And what exactly have they got? Without a doubt one of the slickest clubs in Russia, whose music policy “isn’t representative of what is going on in the rest of the country, except perhaps at those underground spots in Moscow or St. Petersburg, where they actually care about their sound.”

You might have preconceptions about what the dance music scene is like in Russia, and save for the odd electro gem like Proxy, you might be right. But the Hospital Club is leading the way with their serious approach to house music and, more interestingly, their current thirst for the sound pioneered by Amine Edge & DANCE – G-House.

Russia has rarely, if ever, led the way when it comes to popular music. But it seems that in this case, the guys at the Hospital Club have managed to find their niche in something that is currently flooding sound systems and venues across the world. The Gavrilyuk Bross (the name you’ll see attached to all productions released through the club’s in-house record label) have had a long-standing love for this particular style. “Three years ago, we tried to play this way; we didn’t know about G-house, but we loved the combination of house beats, fat bass and vocals from hip hop /rap – now this style is huge.” And without a doubt, this club’s passion for the music is reflected by the sets played the guest DJs they fly over to the club week in week out.

Incredibly, through their own passion and without the ‘passing trade’ that you might get at a new venue in somewhere like Berlin or London, these guys have been seriously ahead of the curve with their bookings – Shiba San played the club the weekend after that infamous Claude VonStroke Essential Mix featuring the monstrous “OKAY” was released, and they’ve had Sirus Hood, Franky Rizardo, My Digital Enemy and Manuel De La Mare all gracing the decks in the last few months.

In their own way, this little nightclub is making a big noise. Alongside their weekend bookings, the Brothers run their in-house record label, Hospital Club Records, pushing their own tech-house productions, and with collaborations and remixes featuring the likes of Shiba San, The Shapeshifters, Franky Rizardo and My Digital Enemy in the pipeline, this is a label you’re likely to be hearing a lot more from in the near future.
And what about the club - who would the Brothers like to see play behind the decks next? “Kolombo, Amine & Edge and Claude VonStroke; we are lovers of good bass lines and low frequencies – we’ve got an amazing sound system at the club and we want to wring it out!”

Sounds fair enough to us.

With the recent passing of the 'Godfather Of House' last month, superstar singer Elton John has now set up the Frankie Knuckles Foundation in his memory.

The foundation will aim to provide support with HIV information, testing, and treatment in black communities in both America and the UK.

A statement from the singer reads, "Frankie was such a lovely man and a great talent and his legacy provides a powerful voice to reach out to people, particularly men of colour, about their essential role in helping to create an AIDS-free future."

Currently, black Americans account for nearly 50 percent of people living with HIV in the US, according to Scott Campbell, the executive director of the U.S. wing of ALAF. Campbell went on to say, “Through the creation of this fund, Frankie Knuckles’ music industry legacy will be transformed into a movement for health and empowerment in the black community… Frankie’s name and image can help us reach into black communities with urgently needed information and services.”

The foundation will operate under the larger Elton John AIDS Foundation (ELAF), which is one of the largest private foundations fighting AIDS in the world.

Prince To Release New Album and Reissue Purple Rain

Along with launching a new publishing company, it's recently been announced that Prince has signed a global licensing deal with Warner Bros. Records.

And, confirming the longtime rumours, he'll be releasing a new studio album, along with releasing a digitally re-mastered deluxe version of Purple Rain, commemorating the album’s 30th anniversary, with other projects to follow.

"A brand-new studio album is on the way and both Warner Bros. Records and Eye are quite pleased with the results of the negotiations and look forward to a fruitful working relationship,” Prince said in a news release.

The news of Prince's rekindled relationship comes as somewhat of a shock, after his famous fallout with the company back in the '90s. Frustrated with his contact, Prince changed his name to the "love symbol," releasing a quick series of albums to get out of his deal, also writing "slave" on his cheek during public appearances.

Watch: Guy Gerber In Conversation with Diddy at IMS Engage

In perhaps one of the most interesting conversations from this year’s IMS Engage conference in Los Angeles, musicians Guy Gerber and Diddy conversed for 45 minutes on a range of topics including details about their forthcoming ’11:11’ collaboration.

The talks kicked off with Gerber sharing how his relationship with Diddy began. “I was told to come to New York to make music together. He played me a track from my first album for inspiration.”

Diddy told Gerber about how he initially became involved in the electronic music scene with trips to Ibiza and the legendary DC10 nightclub, nights at Sound Factory in New York, and his first collaboration in the genre, “Let’s Get I’ll” with Stuart Price, Deep Dish, Nellee Hooper, and Felix da Housecat.

Diddy wanted to work with Gerber because of his approach to music. “It’s all about the spiritual aspect of this music. Playing from the heart and experiencing true emotions. I am always looking for DJs/producers without a set format who aren’t afraid to clear the dance floor, who are fearless. I thought it would be cool to work with Guy after hearing him.”

One of the most memorable moments of the day was when news broke that Diddy topped Forbes’ Entertainment list with a net worth of $700 million. When fellow speaker Pete Tong asked him about how he accomplished this, Diddy responded: “You all have the same 24 hours a day I do.”

Playa d’en Bossa’s newest hotel is set to turn even more heads with the news that it is to open this exclusive restaurant. People hoping to dine at the new eatery will be expected to part with an astronomical £1,235 per head, giving the restaurant the record for being the priciest on the planet. Michelin starred Spanish chef Paco Roncero is the man behind the restaurant, named Sublimotion, which will take just 12 lucky guests at a time through a 20-course meal. Sublimotion will combine food, art and technology to create a ‘complete and unprecedented emotional experience.'

A spokesman said: "The dishes will cause a stir among the most neglected senses; from moments of humour, pleasure, fear, reflection and nostalgia, diners will be wandering through a world of sensations from the North Pole where they will enjoy a cold snack that they carve on their own iceberg or to the baroque Versailles where the elegance of a rose is sure to melt in their palate."

The Hard Rock Hotel, which will be the first ever in Europe, will open in its Playa d’en Bossa location on 18th May.
