Thick as Theives Presents Matt.Joe

Matt.Joe aka Matze and Johannes are a pair of hip hop/house enthusiasts with a penchant for party.

The duo bonded over a shared love of rap, breakdance and skateboarding. Using their interests as inspiration, the pair first put their musical minds together in the form of ‘Two Manics’. The project sought to make credible hip hop productions with an independent flavour. Their immense talent quickly became too much for their hometown Hanover, forcing the duo to relocate to Berlin. Since that move, Mat.Joe have been unstoppable.

Their numerous productions have established a unique Matt.Joe style, which fuses crispy House beats with soul and hip hop elements. The result is deep and dancefloor-ready grooves, with a bombastic ghetto edge. Drawing influence from subway rides, late night showers and favorite bars, the pair bring the sounds of the city to life

Their latest release reflects the pair’s neverending search for material. Their ambition and hunger shines through on this latest release, which traverses all manner of musical terrain. Don’t miss their run of Australian shows, kicking off next week!

Claptone releases new track 'Ghost'

Enigmatic DJ Claptone has released a new track ‘Ghost’. Released by Berlin label Exploited, the tune features indie favourites Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and United.

The philly band have their fingerprints all over this one. Dulled down guitars and cruisy synths add an indie-rock edge, but the tune still belongs on the dancefloor.

The man behind the bird mask has become synonymous with deep house jams, thanks in most part to 2012s ‘Cream’. The track shot to the top of German dance charts and established the bird-man as a force to be reckoned with

Claptone
is not to be pigeon-holed, however. The mysterious masquerader’s ‘Vibe’ mix infused house with hip-hop flavour, showing an entirely different dimension to the artist’s sound.

New Study Reveals EDM Fans More Social

$

A study released at this year’s South By South-West conference has concluded that EDM fans are the most socially active of all music fans.

The study measured the social activity of EDM fans online for 2013. It found over 70 million posts relating to EDM over a variety of social media platforms. The study was completed by online ticketing company Eventbrite.

The study explored the number as well as the content of tweets by users. As reported in YourEDM, EDM fans tweet 11 times per day (!) whilst average users tweet a measly 1.85 times. Of those 11 tweets, some 38% are music related, as opposed to 25% for other music fans. EDM fans are also more socially engaged on the live circuit. EDM fans purportedly talk about events and concerts 30% more than other music fans. Way to raise the bar guys!

Authors of the study view this result as a major marketing opportunity for EDM brands:

“Brands that emphasize visuals trends in their marketing and on their social channels can leverage this behavior to drive greater engagement with EDM Fans.”

Trap Producer Indicted on Drug Charges

19-year-old Kekai Wachi has been charged with conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and heroin. The promising trap producer was arrested along with ten others on the same charge. The group is alleged to have sold up to 160,000 oxycodone pills and an undisclosed amount of heroin, worth some $6 million dollars (US).

Working with Kannibalen Records, the up-and-coming talent was hotly tipped tipped for a big year. The label had high hopes for the youngster who they considered to be a 'leader of the pack'. His guttural basslines and apocalyptic drums had destroyed speakers all across the Pacific Northwest.

The Idaho native recently signed with Circle Talent Agency after gaining support of dub-step king makers Bro Safari and Rell the Soundbender. Waichi played alongside Bare, Protohype and Maxim at last year’s Control party in Hollywood.

Wachi's is the most recent in a line of drug-related incidents in the trap community. A trial date is yet to be set.

St Patrick's Day With Our Favourite Irishman

$

St Patrick’s Day is the one day of the year when being Irish isn’t considered some incurable genetic disorder. For 24 little hours, the world comes together in an orgy of green to celebrate The Feast of St Patrick by drinking their fill of luke-warm brown sludge. In honour of the day in question, Pulse is celebrating its most beloved Irish producer. While it was hard to boil it down to just one, we couldn’t go past the one and only Marcus Lambkin aka Shit Robot.

One of the most accomplished producers (Irish or otherwise) on the planet, Shit Robot is nothing short of an icon. With over 20 years experience, Lambkin has seen electronic music grow from a fringe movement to a mainstream genre. Having worked extensively with DFA boss James Murphy and Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor, there is no denying Shit Robot’s credibility.

Shit Robot’s 2010 debut Cradle to the Rave proved to be one of the biggest releases of that year. Featuring the singles ‘Tuff Enuff’ and ‘Take ‘Em Up’, the album created a whole new legion of Robot fans. The accompanying live shows foregrounded the Irishman as a must-see on the live circuit.

Riding on the back of the single ‘Do That Dance’, his forthcoming album ‘We Got A Love’ is one of the most anticipated albums of 2014. The sophomore LP is littered with special guests, including Reggie Watts, Luke Jenner, Nancy Whang, Lidell Townsend, Museum of Love and Holly Backler. We wait with bated breath.

Here’s to you, Mr Robot and a Happy St Patrick’s Day to all!
